Well I did say he was an unlikely candidate but it was fun to give his pro’s and con’s.
@missy Chris Marshal would probably make a good Doctor. Chris was a leading candidate I think either before Capaldi was announced or Jodies announcement. Ironically it was because he had just announced his departure from Death in Paradise and everyone was making assumptions that he had accepted the role.21 March 2022 at 09:31 #72952Colin Baker was also a minor character ironically as a Timelord guard in one of Peter Davidsons stories though it may have actually been one of the Tom Baker stories
21 March 2022 at 06:17 #72950A conservative choice maybe but he certainly would make a good Doctor, as to his having done the Doctor before as it was for Comic Relief I think most fans would be ok as I think his total screen time as the Doctor was only 2 or 3 mins. As I’ve previously said and others have indicated it would all depend on his ability to commit long term around his present other commitments. Interestingly enough on a by play all the hooha about Jodie being the first female Doctor is actually incorrect as from memory Joanna Lumley was actually the first female Doctor in that CR skit episode.
20 March 2022 at 21:27 #72948Oh I agree Huge Grant would probably make an excellent Doctor it’s just is he willing to make the long term commitment the role would mean. As you say RTD appears to have big plans for Who and given the rumours that they also MSU plans – though most opinions seem to think that relates more to budgetary issues rather than actually creating multiple Who franchises within the Who universe.
20 March 2022 at 20:56 #72946I saw/heard that in a YouTube post earlier, I think it apparently originates from an article either in the Sun or the Daily mail. Not entirely sure it’s true as it would mean Huge Grant committing a large amount of time to Who. It would mean he would not be available for other projects which has always been a stumbling block for getting an existing major star for the role. I think in part that was why Eccleston only committed to one season as well as the fact that it also connects the star almost permanently to Who in the eyes of fans. Apparently Huge Grant was offered Morrisey’s role in the Next Doctors Xmas special. Though there is some decent reasoning that he may be offered the role as he’s worked with RDT before and it’s well known that RDT like working with actors he’s worked with before. Also they may even be considering bringing in a big named actor/actress for a short 1 or 2 season stint to boost the ratings Personally I think it will be an known up and coming or unknown actor/actress.
17 February 2022 at 13:12 #72896@catymcinulty welcome I think we here on TDWF pride ourselves on generally being an inclusive , generally friendly and supportive group.
7 February 2022 at 19:47 #72880@craig are we allowed to “sell” stuff on this site if not need to report entry on who news 4
25 January 2022 at 16:23 #72853@blenkinssopthebrave as I said in my original post I had realised that the news that Tennent was possibly going to be 14 was coming from non BBC online sources and was probably highly suspicious. As you say it’s more likely Tennent will reprise his role as 10 if the 60th anniversary special is a multi-doc story.
My main point is the way a lot of the the interviews appear to indicate that RTD will be doing the anniversary special then the series which in my opinion is the wrong way round as I feel they need to let 14 establish themselves as the Doctor before having a new doctor in a multi-doctor special. Now it may be that the interviews were in part a bit misleading as they were concentrating at the time on the the 60th anniversary special and then the fact he was headlining the production of Who going forward, and given the way Jodie is leaving at the end of a series of Specials with no real announcement of how the show is going to proceed after Jodies departure to begin the new Doctors tenure ie is there going to be a new series starting early 2023 either New Year or possibly Easter to co-inside the anniversary of RTD’s NuWho or as another special which will essentially introduce/establish the new Doctor much like Tennants start in the Christmas Invasion.
The fact that Jodie has already finished her filming as you say is no problem, with todays filming technology the regeneration scene can be done with the actors at different times. Obviously the decision will have to be relatively soonish as it will have to be filmed and inserted into the final scenes of the third Special.
The other thing I was thinking given the timing of the specials this year and the circumstances that they will be introducing the new Doctor it will possibly mean there will be no Xmas/New Year special this year, which would be disappointing but on the other hand would possibly increase the likelihood that the new Doctors introduction will be in a Tennant style Special during the festive special
24 January 2022 at 17:07 #72847Placing this here as it is more an unsubstantiated rumour but has anyone seen some of the the non BBC online rumour that David Tenant may and I repeat may be being considered as the 14th Doctor though a precedence may have been created in Day of the Doctor with Tom Bakers Cameo as the Curator and suggestion that he was a future doctor reprising the face. Personally I think it’s more likely he’s going to be cast in the 60th if he going to return as the Doctor. Though I do have a bit of a problem with that as it will potentially be the new Doctors first episode given that Jodies exit is going to be in the 3rd special due to be broadcast as part of the BBCs Centenary celebrations late this year. Given the timing I now suspect that will mean that there will not be a Xmas/ New Year special episode unless the RTDs first new series is going to launch perhaps New Years Day thus giving the new Doctor time to establish him/herself ahead of a multi Doctor anniversary 60th Special. My reasoning for this is that Tennant has already stated he would be happy to be involved in the 60th celebrations as has Smith. Though having the anniversary special a Multi Doctor fest has become kind of tradition if they do let it not be a re-hash of Day of Doctor it will need to be sufficiently different. Perhaps the incarnations of the Doctor being subscripted by the White Gardian for example to save the universe… oh they’ve already done that kind of with the Key to Time Story Arc in PGWho.
22 January 2022 at 23:03 #72841Was having a browse on YouTube about the various postings about when they are going to announce the actors/actresses identity earlier and given that RTD is supposedly going to start principle/pre production in Feb it got me to thinking we know there are 2 more specials for Jodie but are they going to do a Xmas/new year special as the new docs first episode or are we going to have to forego a special and wait till later 2023( my betting would be an Easter launch in that case ) for the new season especially as as far as I am aware they are going to do a 60th anniversary special so the doctors new season will have to have been completed by then.
6 January 2022 at 11:09 #72783Hmm @blenkinsopthebrave I think you may have it Moffat was brilliant he was able to carry a series arc and keep individual episode stories fun and enjoyable. He doesn’t seem to have sacrifice the episode story in order to tell the series arcs. I’m not saying Moffat had a perfect record but Chibnall who the fans seem to generally agree has been a relatively poor front runner as seemed to be all about a series arc rather than the individual episodes. I’m not saying Chibnall isn’t a good story teller because when he’s not concentrating on an overall arc he seems to have produced who I consider classic type Who episodes for example the Eve of the Daleks it seemed with Flux out the way he has produced what appears to be a throughly enjoyable episode. This is unfortunate really because when he was announced as the Showrunner and with Jodies appointment as the Doctor is seemed to for-bode of a successful combination that didn’t appear.
4 January 2022 at 12:13 #72771@nerys this conversation has made me ROLF . Your spelling is perfect compared to mine I’m always misspelling words even with automatic spell checking and autocorrect (though auto correct is a whole other problem), I also have a habit of hitting send or enter before triple checking what has actually gone down on the screen which has led me to rapidly hitting edit a number of times.
3 January 2022 at 01:22 #72749@craig I think we may have a bigoted troll posting calling him/herself anonymous posted on 3/1/22 at 01:10 on the Eve of the daleks thread the comment is both racist and homophobic in nature and under the sites rules needs to be removed and the poster possibly banned
1 January 2022 at 22:19 #72739Ah that’s why he seemed familiar. I’m actually surprised by the episode I thought oh no not another Dalek NewYears episode when it was announced but as I said it was actually a better episode than I thought it would be. I had thought after the end of Flux here we go, how is Chibbers going alter who history again but it appears he wasn’t for once.
1 January 2022 at 21:52 #72736@bluesqueakpip yeah it felt more like a traditional Who episode, one thing did anyone see the guy towards the end of the episode taking pictures of the fire works I’m wondering if he’s got more significance for the future didn’t have my glassses on at the time but his voice was familiar, really need to rewatch.
1 January 2022 at 20:24 #72733Thanks and happy new year o glorious emperor @craig . Now to the Special, well it was much better than the series and felt more like like an episode of Who. It’s almost as if now Jodie has the Flux out the way she’s able put her heart into being the doctor. Will probably have to watch again to digest and cogitate all the little bombshells but let’s say Yaz’s reveal wasn’t exactly a surprise given her possessiveness over the Doctor over the last 12 months of specials and series.
1 January 2022 at 00:54 #72724Hmm @blenkinsopthebrave I think you’ve hit it on the head Chibnall hasn’t paid enough respect to past show cannon. Now don’t get me wrong I’ve no problem with there being changes to the established cannon but it needed to fit in so to speak. I always felt there was supposed to be more to the doctors past and if I remember right there was some mention (i think in the 5 doctors anniversary show) that early timelords like Rassalon had regeneration cycles that made them near immortal but Chibnall over the last 2 seasons has essentially driven a wrecking ball through established cannon.
29 December 2021 at 20:07 #72716Surely they’re not trying for a repeat of the capaldi exit but instead of a good master and a bad master they’re going bad and mad though if they’re bringing Sims and Dhawan back surely they could stretch to Gomez she was great.
28 December 2021 at 19:54 #72713@nerys I think you may have in part hit the nail on the head the whole series series felt too rushed. In some part I think some of the COVID restrictions will have had some effect on production and I suspect Upper Management at the BeeB may have a had their sticky fingers in the pie so to speak so your comment about too many cooks is very apt.
7 December 2021 at 19:17 #72648@blenkinsopthebrave I think in part we’re all trying to organise our thoughts, as I’ve said in other posts I think this season needs to literally seen as a whole as it’s a mini series format this season. I’ve found I’ve liked some episodes more than others especially when there’s been more structure to the episode.
I think part of the problems has been the storyline has appeared to be a bit chaotic because some elements have only became clear in the last 2 episode. Also to be honest I’m still not clear how Swarm and Azure were really necessary to the storyline other than as a red herring and a way of setting up the scene with the Doctor and the ?Savior character. Also Other than Division and its creation of the Flux there’s not really been a big bad of the series that’s really been explained properly. Yes we know that Tectuen was head of Division and the apparent evil stepmother figure of the Doctor but even she was not used to full effect and appeared to be just thrown away, even the Great Serpent was sort of a damp squib in the end.
6 December 2021 at 12:37 #72640On the note on the announcement of the first of the specials, as it’s trailer was part of this episode and what I have to say is ‘Really’ another Dalek Christmas/Newyear Special this will make the 3rd Dalek themed special in a row. Ok their cameo appearance as part of the series finale was acceptable as it was part of the overall plot but I’m beginning to think Chibnal is obsessed with using them for specials, and wasn’t Chibnal supposedly not going to use monsters from the who past when he came in.
5 December 2021 at 22:12 #72635Still digesting and cogitating as someone else has said it felt as if they were trying to cram too much into the final episode and the way they defeated the ravages I’m sorry it felt a bit like a cop-out defeat to me. The other thing does anyone have the feeling Chibnal was echoing Tenents departure lead up from The Waters of Mars and the Timelord Victorious theme with the way the Saviour character was saying to the Doctor her end was coming.
3 December 2021 at 11:52 #72614@jimthefish oh I agree about Badwolf/Sony will probably try and change the format to some degree. I pray that Sony don’t try to Americanise the show, though given Badwolf is a British based company and RTD is at the helm this will probably have an element of resistance to this.
1 December 2021 at 15:50 #72600@blenksopthebrave my guess even with the change of production company to Badwolf , even if linked with Sony, I don’t think the BBC will have given up all control of of the Who format as they currently co own the rights to the Dr Who concept. Yes I do understand certain concepts within the show such as the Daleks are owned by other parties. I believe company’s such as Sony have fallen afoul of these sort of issues in the past, in fact wasnt that part of the problem with the current StarTrek rewrite was that the TV series rights have meant various concepts within it couldn’t be used as they were owned by different people.
25 November 2021 at 00:56 #72522Well I didn’t think my bonkerising would create such a reaction, but to be honest given how Chibnal has been willing to “alter” or perhaps that’s rewrite Who cannon may be my bonkerising won’t end up being so far off the mark.
To go further with my bonkerising if you will I had a further thought that I wondered if perhaps the Doctor actual set up the Division in his/her earlier past which is why they are so keen to get her back. What I pray we are not being setting up for is that we are going to see a second Valeyard type incarnation of the Doctor who is in charge of the Division, Nah Chibbers wouldn’t have the brass b’s to pull that on us surely. The Valeyard was to be honest one of my least favourite villains PreGap as he was too close to effectively being a clone of the Master.
As for your comment about Chibbers perhaps bringing Lungbarrow cannon into the tv cannon, in part it already had to a round about extent in that the book was an authorised BBC book during what I call the InterGap period. Though I do realise RTD and Moffat essentially ignored most of the interim BBC book lore as far as I could tell.
18 November 2021 at 06:28 #72452@blenkinsopthebrave there is that aspect and given the way they kept Jodie’s casting quite. I suppose the there is the possibility that Doc14 could be inserted into the regeneration scene at a later time given the state of modern FX’s though if I understand the casting process they generally work at least 12-18 months in advance and given that it appears that JW always planned to only do 3 seasons the production crew have probably been looking for candidates for Doc 14for a while. On another note I realised we are in fact possibly looking at a fourth special for Doc 14 first full episode (much like Tenents introduction) before we see season 14, unless they are going to do a JW style start, personally I would prefer a special as it would potentially give a longer introduction episode. Given that it appears that RTD will be moving studio filming to his Badwolf studio (still in Wales) which I understand is a bigger complex I am hopeful for a special as the introduction.
17 November 2021 at 23:44 #72442Not sure how official this is but according to a Digital Spy article Jodie has supposedly filmed her final scene as the Doctor. So it seems all the filming for the 3 Specials have been completed. the article also lets slip that Bradley Walsh is to reprise his role as Graham.

14 November 2021 at 22:09 #72391I’m not sure what I think about this episode, I think I’m gonna need to watch again just to absorb everything. The part towards the end had me thinking of the third face of fate the thread cutter Atropos and her comment about the flux being engineered struck me. I’m also wondering if we’re actually looking at some kind of version of the “heaven/hell” that Missy Master created in Dark Water/Death in Heaven and this is all in the Doctors head. Too tired to think straight at the moment so as I said another viewing needed.
10 November 2021 at 01:50 #72343@brewski I’ve never had a real problem with the concept of the Timeless Child and it being the Doctor just it’s clumsy implementation by Chibnal. Let’s be honest those of us who were around pre-gap era especially during the McCoyDoc era there were given hints that the Doctor was possibly something other than just a Timelord (yes, yes I know I’m referring to the infamous/famous Cartmel Plan) so I was not that adverse to find the Doctor is supposed to be the Progenitor Timelord and as I’ve stated my main problem has been way Chibnal has dealt with it. From what I’ve read, Chibbers had never intended to stay more than 3 seasons in the helm and he was already given a big task of having us accept the concept of a female Doctor, then he’s essentially rushed headlong into another major change in what we thought we knew of the Doctor by changing her back history and I think it was just done too quickly. If the likes of Moffat had been doing this I think there would have been more subtly and it would have been mapped out over a longer period. Oops my apologies for getting slightly off topic.
9 November 2021 at 20:21 #72333@brewski lol. Isn’t bonkers theorising what we do here.
@phaseshift I dearly hope if Sony are being bought in as production partners that the Beeb have layed down some serious caveats one of which is that there be a predominately British casting including that of the Doctor. Too often I have felt that when American TV companies try and reproduce classic British tv series’s they make a total Balls-up of it by too blatant Americanisation.
7 November 2021 at 20:06 #72317Still confused, it’s obvious we’re going to get info on the big story in pieces over the 6 episodes so it being episode 2 we’re not going to get anywhere near any sort of major plot reveals this far in, the secondary story appeared to be a typical Doctor vs the Sontarians episode. There’s obviously something seriously going on with the Tardis and it obviously wanted the Doctor to sort out the Sontarian situation as to how this is related to the bigger Flux situation I’m not sure. Why can’t I shake the feeling Swarm is something to do with the Master.
2 November 2021 at 00:41 #72277Oh boy just had an absolutely evil thought which I thought I’d put out there to let others ruminate and cogitate. What if it turns out the Doctor as the timeless child is in fact not only the progenitor of the Timelord race as the current past story seem indicate, but is in fact some kind of hyper evolved Gallifeyan who was sent back in time and this is all part of some kind of perverse reaction of the universe to set things up. Remember the child doctor appeared originally out of some kind of strange rift, we only have the Masters word that it was a dimensional rift it could just as easily have been a time rift. And another evilly spawned thought in part prompted by @bluesqueakpips comment does Dan have to be the Master (hehe just think about who else he could be especially if he is chameleon arched). Though maybe these comments need to go into another room called the room of wired and wacky theories😜
1 November 2021 at 16:55 #72270@oochillyo as our emperor Craig said the episode felt very messy. I think/feel it’s as if Chibbers has tried to cram 2 episodes of information into 1. Now I’m used to Who having stories stretch over 4+ episodes being a pre gap fan where episodes were only 25-30 mins and essentially this season is supposed to be 1 long story. I know previous post gap seasons have had underlying story arcs, but at least previously individual episodes in the post gap era have unless a specific 2 or 3 parter story within a series have had sense of completeness. Getting back on track as far as I can see unless Chibbers is going to spend a chunk of the next episode linking the predicament the Doctor and Co are currently in to what is going to happen with the Sontarians. In fact if that is the case maybe he’s trying to essentially create what I would view as a 6hr Doctor Who movie and would be better watched all together. Also I am wondering if his original concept called for a much longer season. Of course it’s still early days but given that this season is only 6 episodes long I feel there needs to be much improvement quickly or Jodies final full season may turn into a bit of a flop
31 October 2021 at 20:17 #72265Agreed @craig my initial response still stands. But thinking about what happened I’m assuming this has all something to do with the doctors hidden past as it is obvious the doctor and what looks to be the series main villain have a history (obviously). At one point I did wonder if it was going to turn out that the big bad was going to turn out to be some kind of mutated version of the Master especially given the comment about the Doctor and him having been repeatedly locked in combat. Is this a case of Chibnal trying to set-up too many yet to be resolved threads basically leaving this season opener a total mess.
31 October 2021 at 19:18 #72263All I can say is what the feck is Chibnal doing I’ve never seen an episode I didn’t understand more
25 October 2021 at 21:15 #72236Oh I agree the Monk as played by Peter Butterworth (famous for his appearances in the Carry On series of films) as you say was more of a lightweight villain than the Master ever was ( I actually managed to watch the story on Brit Box after posting earlier) as you said the story appears to be about the dangers of timetravelers intentionally trying to change the timeline, though I would still maintain the concept of there being an “evil” Timelord may have been sown in the conception of the character of the Monk.
25 October 2021 at 14:43 #72234I really need to dig into my BritBox subscription and see if The Time Meddler is available, I’ve never actually watched it other than a couple of clips and the impression I got the Meddler is almost a proto-Master like character that may have later inspired the creation of the Master
24 October 2021 at 22:19 #72232Hi fellow whovians set your, set tops, vcrs for 18:25 BBC1 next Sunday for the first episode of the new who season. Of course the Episode is titled Halloween Armageddon.
14 October 2021 at 10:41 #72208@missy must have missed a post or two didn’t realise you we’re actually talking about Elementary, which in my opinion is probably a good example of why Americans TV shouldn’t attempt to Americanise what is a British literary character there is always something off about the production.
13 October 2021 at 16:00 #72200@dentautherdent I agree having a companion or companions who compliment or more accurately push or challenge the Doctor is important it’s been stated in the past that the Doctor works best when he/she has companions. Remember Who started out with multiple companions, and I have always felt male companions seem to be stronger or fair better when they challenge the doctor, either challenging the doctors accepted morality of a situation or asking what is so to speak. To a degree you are right in saying Female characters seem much better when flying solo with the Doctor though there have been disasters in my opinion in the past take Bonnie Langford and Colin Baker (ok CB was considered by most to be the poorest Doctor in the pre gap period) but that pairing just grated on my nerves. As you have possibly alluded to Graham,Ryan and Yaz may have been better if they had allowed to be stronger characters especially Yaz given she was supposed to be a police-officer. In part I think starting with a clean slate when Jodie started was partly a mistake though given the way Bill left it would have been difficult for her to have continued on.
12 October 2021 at 16:28 #72198@missy what on earth do you mean the real doctor, though I do agree RDT’s return might repair the damage Chibbers lack-lustre story writing seems to have created. If RTD had been in charge for Jodies stint I feel her tenure would have been so much better. Not that I have any issue with the Timeless Child concept in general terms, I’ve always felt that the Doctor was something more than your usual Timelord so discovering that he/she was really a primordial archetype for the timelords wasn’t really too much of a shock to the system for me. I have watched who since the Pertwee era and have had the pleasure of watching earlier episodes when they were repeated (those they had ) one BBC2 in the late 70s , early 80s and I felt there was always hints that the Doctor was more then.
11 October 2021 at 12:02 #72182Does anyone know what the ‘have you seen the aliens’ terms and conditions is about on the BBC Doctor Who site.
My only guess is that it’s some kind of quirky way of telling us about the sites updated terms and conditions but I would have thought it would have just restated the current BBC website T&C’s9 October 2021 at 22:46 #72173Just did a bit of web surfing, and although the BBC 1 trailer/teaser didn’t give any dates evidently BBC America is saying the world wide launch of Season 13 is October 31st.
hoping this link to a yahoo news article which gives more info works
9 October 2021 at 22:32 #72172Woohoo did anyone else seethe next teaser on BBC1 just prior to Strictly Come Dancing definitely a Who Ad lasted about 15-20 secs still no start date but mentioned sontarians and the Weeping Angels dint see it all as was busy with the Family so wasn’t concentrating on it 100% but given the spacing I’ll expect another teaser/trailer next Saturday and there will probably be a repeat of this one over the next week
7 October 2021 at 17:36 #72159Agreed, it does appear a low key ad campaign, my current guess is that the season 13 will launch either 13th or 14th November. That puts it 6 weeks before Xmas with the last episode landing the weekend before Xmas-day and a little under 2 weeks before New Years Day. It’s also just over 4 weeks away which may be why the low key first teaser with there being a ramp-up in the weeks leading to the launch. The other option could be the season could be ending New Years Day with the final episode being a longer episode to form this years Special, obviously that increases this buildup teaser period but still works. Well that’s my thoughts at the moment without more concrete info it’s all I can actually say.
7 October 2021 at 11:02 #72157@ blenkinsopthebrave just googled when is the new series starting and on of the responses came up with an article which seems to back up what I’ve seen saying a brief teaser has been seen prior to the BBC’s One Show leading fans to believe the new season is about to start. Unfortunately I’m a bit nesh (read crap) at including links , tried to post the appropriate link but took us no where it was suposed to but there is a radiotimes article that would support a pre-Xmas release
Doctor Who series 13 release date | Dr Who cast, theories, trailer – Radio Times
7 October 2021 at 10:51 #72156@blenkinsopthebrave its not on the official site but randomly on the BBC1 channel usually immediately at the end of programs and in the evenings. I think I’ve seen it 3 times now the first time I wasn’t sure it’d actually seen it . Its almost like when they are showing a brief teaser clip for a series in the weeks prior to a new shows start but without a coming soon or actual start date. Given the new series has to be either starting soon in order to be finished for Christmas and a New Year special as we do know it is only 6 episodes long if they are holding to a Special at New Year. Of course given they have started the new series’ after the last 2 New Year specials this may not be the case and given that we know this is to be Jodies last season plus the 3 Special episodes this may be the case though it will obviously mean we will have essentially gone a whole year without a series. This is not without precedence as this is practically a repeat of the end of Tenants tenure.
6 October 2021 at 19:12 #72154Hi all, have any of our other British members spotted the strange 5 second Dr Who ?preview/advert that has being aired on BBC1. All it consists of is a kind of fuzzy testcard and a couple of words by Jodiedoc and lasts a max of about 5 seconds.
3 October 2021 at 08:55 #72137@dentarthurdent yes there was at least 1 pre gap story that contained a future doctor can’t remember exactly the story’s name and to my shame can only remember that it had ironically Colin Baker playing a Gallefrayan Citadel guard. If my memory serves I think it was a DavidsonDoc adventure.
22 September 2021 at 18:12 #72079@dentarthurdent what you have to remember is that before the Timeless Child reveal and after the War Doctor reveal Capaldi can actually be considered Doctor 2.1 with the sequence actually being
HartnellDoc 1.1, TroughtonDoc 1.2, PertweeDoc 1.3, T BakerDoc 1.4, DavidsonDoc 1.5, C BakerDoc 1.6, McCoyDoc 1.7, McGannDoc 1.8, HurtDoc 1.9, EcclestonDoc 1.10, TennantDoc 1.11, (aborted/clone regen )TennantDoc 1.12, SmithDoc 1.13 then as far as we knew at that point the timelords had granted a second regeneration sequence making CapaldiDoc 2.1, and WhittakerDoc 2.2
Obviously the revelations of the timeless child has technically blown any sequencing but from our perspective the above list is the sequencing we would take the doctor to have lived
