@mudlark Actually all the fantasy novels I’ve read have been winners of Hugo or Nebula
awards. I haven’t read any of the Doctor Who novels yet either 🙁 but its on my to do list!
I generally gravitate mostly towards history, mystery and historical fiction novels but I do
love folklore and magical stories. In recent days however I’ve been surfing thru the internet to investigate Clara Theory.
I’m trying to find something about the leaf. So I went back to the scene where
Clara’s parent talk about the leaf. Then I went looking at the leaves from UK trees.
There is 1 tree called the Rowan and of course it has both Norse and Celtic mythology
attached to it. The Druids thought of it as a threshold tree between worlds or the portal tree.
But it doesn’t look much like the same leaf. But I will stay on the trail 🙂9 October 2015 at 20:07 #44379@mudlark Thanks for the suggestion about Rohan. I will definitely take up his books!
Have you met him? His bio says he has worked on excavations. He seems a very interesting
character and so I bet his books will be too.@jphamlore In regards to Clara. I cant completely agree about Clara as ‘baseline’
human. There have been for me personally too many clues indicating that there is
something strange about her. I don’t believe that this is completely nothing
on the part of SM without building up to a big reveal about her. He is really
great when it comes to cooking things up with his characters. Look what he did
with Rose and Bad Wolf. There have been too many incidental Clara occurrences
that cant be fully explained and even the Doctor thinks that. One of the big
problems for me is that I really don’t know how she survived the time stream.
River said she would die. So how was the Doctor able to save her? No one knows.
You just don’t drop little clues season after season if it isn’t meant to lead up
to something. I just found an origin myth of the Tinglist native Americans that has
to do with a raven an a leaf and rebirth. If you recall Clara’s origin story began
with a leaf and her mother’s maiden name was Ravenwood. That’s just too much
coincidence for me when you think about how much mythology is used in the series now.9 October 2015 at 00:31 #44343@purofilion Nah I wouldn’t say I found a back story but I do love to find
coincidence. It’s in the middle of that page (of teeny weeny print)9 October 2015 at 00:03 #44338For all the myth and Clara theory enthusiasts I found a Tinglit origin story about
where daylight comes from. In it the raven (who is considered a trickster) decides
to pass himself off as a leaf that drops into the water and a young girl who is the
daughter of the owner of daylight swallows the leaf and becomes pregnant. So then the
raven becomes reborn by her and manages to steal the light ( Clara means light). Raven
then changes back and takes light into the sky to make daylight for the world. That’s
the gist of it. I thought that was very interesting. Here’s where I found it..
https://books.google.com/books?id=h2xfWlMfMhgC&pg=PA639&dq=tinglit+story+about+the+raven+and+the+leaf&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0CB4Q6AEwAGoVChMI3sG0qPmzyAIVSjKICh3CJA4c#v=onepage&q=tinglit%20story%20about%20the%20raven%20and%20the%20leaf&f=false
The Tinglits were a first nation people of the Pacific NW of America. They are the ones
that made the Totem poles.8 October 2015 at 16:42 #44326@blenkinsopthebrave Yes I saw that too while I was watching it. I also think there
is a bunch of details that are the same as in the episode ’42’. The alien in the sun
that gets into you thru the eyes, the strange writing, the port hole scene, a military
crew being trapped, and there is a chamber too. Maybe Mr. Whitehouse also liked that
1? I like it a lot when the writer pulls together amazing ‘coincidences’ from other stories!8 October 2015 at 15:30 #44322@happinesspatrol Yeah I guess its possible. There are all sorts of possibilities
for the impossible girl. I personally have dozens of theories about her 🙂
Think its very plausible @purofilion that we will get new info about this by the time
we reach the ‘Face the Raven” episode.8 October 2015 at 04:22 #44300@jimmythetulip @purofilion
Clara said she was born under a clock – like in a fob watch/chameleon arch?
Except in Clara’s case it might actually be a clock. In any case I still
go with what River said which was if she goes into the time stream she would
die. That means it can’t be Clara that survived.I mightstart to read up on some raven Mythology. There is a lot of Raven stuff
surrounding Clara too such as her mothers maiden name. Then when we get
to the ‘Face the Raven” episode I think we will be getting very close to the truth.7 October 2015 at 23:54 #44290Why did Clara say at the beginning of the episode that she left her sunglasses behind?
Did the Doctor give her a special pair of sunglasses like he gave River a sonic?
I wonder if that’s a thing7 October 2015 at 23:03 #44289@jimmythetulip
In regards to your theory – it does make sense why Missy would have Danny knocked off.
If she sees that Clara is getting too serious with him that would be inconvenient.
Because what if Clara and Danny decided to get married? When Clara reverts to Missy
Danny is still her widower? So how does that work? Missy and Danny as a couple. The 1
that saves Earth and the 1 that likes to mess around with it. Weird much?7 October 2015 at 22:16 #442857 October 2015 at 20:58 #44281http://io9.com/correct-1506380426
WARNING ! Funny naughtiness 🙂
7 October 2015 at 03:56 #442407 October 2015 at 03:54 #44239Are we sure that the four words are – dark sword forsaken temple?
Could it possibly have been dark LORD(of the)forsaken temple?
That might have an interesting meaning@Janette I hope they made enough of them for everyone 🙂
7 October 2015 at 01:27 #44236I had another @ issue and that was for @bluesqueakpip
7 October 2015 at 01:24 #44235@Blueaqueakpip Now that you have introduced me to how to identify the 3 goddesses
I’m guessing this will be relevant thru the series. So the question for me is what it
means in the rest of the series. I think the show runners will do something very interesting
with it. This whole series seems from the start to have lots more twists, turns and twirls
and so far it all feels better interconnected by all these links. At least for me. 🙂6 October 2015 at 23:25 #44225@bluesqueakpip There is a Greek myth about 3 goddesses and a golden apple.
Unfortunately Missy ate a red apple in the trailer so I guess that wont fit.
Oh well lol6 October 2015 at 22:59 #44221@blenkinsopthebrave I found the series even more interesting because of the parallels
to the Who episode. I saw quite a few but I’ve been noticing parallels between other
stories too. Always fun whenever that happens!! Have you noticed all the snake references?
Today I’ve been coming across lots of those.6 October 2015 at 22:32 #44215@bluesqueakpip Missy also mentions flirting is her traps so wouldn’t that be
the seductress aspect of the triple goddess? Mother, seductress and the elderly
woman who is wise but malicious. That is definitely our Missy.6 October 2015 at 22:12 #44213@bluesqueakpip Ok about the hissing. But its still hissing like a snake. We have
rattle snakes around where I live and if you get too close they always hiss.
Its a warning sound of danger too.6 October 2015 at 22:09 #44212@bluesqueakpip Yeah – Its been like you said a strange day with all these serpent/
snake tropes today. Plus the suggestion @craig regarding the Mara with its telepathic
abilities. Its showing up everywhere!6 October 2015 at 21:50 #44209@Blueaqueakpip
Also when the Doctor was entertaining the medieval folks with his guitar and tank
he said something like ‘ are you a dragon slaying dude’ to the guy wearing the armor
and he also told everyone to hiss at Missy when she appeared.
So Missy as the dragon lady?6 October 2015 at 21:21 #44208@bluesqueakpip Interesting what you just pointed out about Missy and the apple
because the color purple that she is now wearing can be used to symbolize poison
or toxicity when it comes to depicting evil. I guess you could include venom too?
Its always either the purple color or the weird green one.6 October 2015 at 20:03 #44201@craig Oh My Gosh! I know where you are going! Also, Clara and mirrors back in
season 8. I bet you are thinking of the Mara. It had the ability to possess its
victims telepathically. Bravo Craig!6 October 2015 at 17:47 #44195@jphamlore Your description of a black hole also reminds me of the episode ’42’
from the Ten Doc era. As does the writing and its got a similar crew aspect too.
In that episode the Doctor fought an ultimate evil. Also, the writing in that
episode allowed the crew to be hacked. hm!6 October 2015 at 15:52 #44185Galifrey TV Shopping network
6 October 2015 at 15:34 #44184This is probably incorrect but I think something got on the Spaceship causing
the crash into a parallel universe which may account for the Tardis feeling
uneasy and the odd church in the valley.
Are the markings a message, a protection or warning, coordinates? Not sure.
But it reminds me of the episode ’42’ and the dark spirit trying to pull the
crew into the black hole place. Even the markings seem similar. In fact both
Martha and Clara getting separated and seeing the Doctor thru the port holes is
identical.6 October 2015 at 05:25 #44158@blenkinsopthebrave That was good! I see what you were trying to imply about
both stories. Russian soldiers infiltrating the Scottish coast. Could it be a fringe
settlement of some kind that is seen in the trailer for “Before the Flood’? Also the
alien-ish spaceship and some other interesting parallels.
I also saw some good parallels between ‘Under the Lake’ and the TenDoc episode of ’42’.6 October 2015 at 05:02 #44155Corny idea about the prophesy of a hybrid that will rise—Like a soufflé perhaps?
Clara did just get ‘baked’ in a Dalek oven. Maybe the Dalek nanobots/genes are
in the process of cooking/converting her into something new? SM is very fond
of story loops. Clara started out as a Dalek and might end up as one too or some
version of one. In any case my money is on Clara being the hybrid either from
this Dalek incident of from the time she came back out of the time stream.5 October 2015 at 19:47 #44125@blenkinsopthebrave that post was @ you

The Nightmare Man
I will watch it tonight and thanks for sharing this series with us !5 October 2015 at 16:28 #44110There were 2 swords in the Arthur legend. Clarent was the sword stuck in the stone and Excaliber
came from the lady in the lake. So Clarent/Clara/Valeyard the ‘cursed’ sword pulled out of the
time stream? Clarent was also the sword used to kill Arthur. The Doctor as Excaliber/Merlin and
Merlin was the one that put the curse on the Clarent sword. Or is Clara Nimue/Lady of the Lake
which is the home of the Excaliber sword?
Or can Clara be both at the same time? Anyone have any more ideas on this 1 yet?5 October 2015 at 03:06 #44079@jphamlore I wiki’d Lyell and there was a picture of him that very much
resembles the ghost with the whiskers. He was a famous geologist. I
wonder if he was also a Freemason? Usually Scottish intellectuals were.
I think the philosophers stone is part of the masons mythology as well as
the Merlin story too.5 October 2015 at 02:15 #44075@Purofilion The Doctor says to Clara “there is only room for 1 Doctor -in this dimension-‘
I found that the ‘this dimension’ extra bit interesting. Later in the episode the scientist
says ‘well if I die I can come back and haunt you all’ and at that moment the Doctor glances
at Clara maybe a reference to something lurking in her? Those sun glasses might be about watching
her. I think he is very suspicious of Clara. So am I. Still think there will be a Clara metamorphosis.Everyone that referenced Merlin and the BG episode Battlefield those are very interesting connections.
Lots of BG references for the Capaldi Doctor. Also the Tarot etc. Raises the bar in fun ways too.4 October 2015 at 21:53 #44059@kharis The Doctor wore the glasses on Skaro. He was looking for traces of what?
Traces of Dalek or traces of Dalek nano genes in Clara? Or perhaps traces of other
stuff in Clara as well. All these new traces in her may be indicating that there is
about to be a metamorphosis of Clara. Those sunglasses maybe keeping track of her,
When he put them on and looked at the wall in the Drum was there a reflection of Clara
there?
I have to find that part again.4 October 2015 at 20:24 #44052It was interesting about how the Doctor had to put on the Tardis hand break
because she wanted to leave but Clara was ripping to go. He had his girls pulling
him in both directions. The Doctor had to give Clara a ‘hold on’ with all this
overconfidence. Something doesn’t add up about that. I wonder if the Tardis is sensing
something about the other space ship which is causing this unease?
Blocking out the eyes to indicate re-wiring of the brains is the spookiest bit for me.
Thinking this would have been a good Halloween episode.4 October 2015 at 04:44 #44009Feels like danger seeking Clara might partly be an effect of Dalek nano genes? So
either she is going to get hurt or the Doctor will leave her because of her recklessness
or maybe both? But I still don’t think she will be killed off. I rather think it will be
left in some other way.
I agree with those that think the hearing impairment is a ‘thing’ to this story.4 October 2015 at 04:01 #44007Reminded me a bit of the episode ‘The God Complex’ in a way. In that in both stories
something is picking people off and turning them for some use as a means to and end.
Also, in both these episodes we have a group trapped, (this time in an under water mining
facility) and there is the maze of corridors. Clara seems to be having a really
good time! Even anxious to pop out of the Tardis and get in the midst of the action.Read the comments and realize I’ve missed some details so will need to follow closer
on a re watch.3 October 2015 at 21:24 #43980@ BTW That previous sentiment goes for @phaseshift and all of the Mods !
and really everyone – Thanks ! I think we all get something out of sharing
our impressions in this placedone 😉
3 October 2015 at 21:18 #43979@craig The effort you put into creating this environment is worth more than what
money can buy! IMHO you have created the definitive ultimate Whovian website!
Just saying…….. 🙂3 October 2015 at 21:05 #43977@craig @phaseshift Ok so never say you don’t have the money! Just say instead
‘ the costs are more than I want to spend” and of course all the aliens in Doctor Who
don’t have any money! But finally – “it’s money! I remember it from when I was single”
I like that tooJust having a peculiar moment 🙂
3 October 2015 at 19:24 #43973@phaseshift Yes! Or Newton or Darwin etc. Also get young ones
to think about science if we were to see the Doctor sharing tea with
scientists. I’m glad that Musk named his company after Tesla too!
David Bowie – definitely!2
3 October 2015 at 06:08 #43959@ichabod @mudlark Just because all the snakes got ‘voting’ rights surely
doesn’t guarantee democracy. In fact even though Colony threw the word
democracy around to be honest he struck me as more of a collective. Sort of
like the Borg collective from Star Trek. It occurred to me when Mudlark
said the words hive and collective. Separate snake individuals yet all linked together.
So saying the word ‘democracy’ is a bit of a deception just like when we
refer to our democracies. To me it was that big snake playing the part of
a funnel thru which the collective engages with outsiders.3 October 2015 at 02:38 #43952@phaseshift Mucho thanks 🙂
3 October 2015 at 02:05 #43950@bluesqueakpip Perhaps a mod can move it over? I was thinking since its not
about any episodes on the Doctor’s show however I can take your point2 October 2015 at 23:17 #43943*Possible Spoilers Alert!*
http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2015-10-02/whos-going-to-be-in-bbc3-doctor-who-spin-off-class
Just some possible Scooby suggestions. Also included are Ian Chesterton and opportunities for
some past Doctors to visit the show. But no announcements.2 October 2015 at 01:55 #43918@ichabod Hey I think you are onto something. We can make him the oversight interface
mechanism like Giles was for Buffy except instead of a hell mouth we get a. nethersphere
b. space and c. time.
But if Danny comes back from the Nethersphere I want him to bring Seb along!2 October 2015 at 01:02 #439132 October 2015 at 00:57 #439122 October 2015 at 00:54 #43910Its a bit of a shame that they killed off Danny in a way cause now he doesn’t
get to be part of Coal Hill’s new show. Unless of course they decide to bring him
back. Quite honestly, how shocking that wouldn’t be.2 October 2015 at 00:06 #43908http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/doctorwho/entries/953c5b1f-3cc8-4db9-8184-f1b6567260f1
This accounts for why we saw a good amount of Coal Hill School last season
