An interesting albeit a touch pompous critiqueplus there was this which was connected to the above article for all the Buffy fans too
http://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2015/10/the-rise-of-buffy-studies/407020/?utm_source=SFFB1 October 2015 at 21:15 #43901@mudlark Thanks for the clarity! That’s really a great perception and I like it!
But … I wonder maybe if Mr. Sarff just had some innovative notions in regards
to his personal life choices? π(Just kidding… having a silly moment)
1 October 2015 at 16:05 #43898@denvaldron I also prefer the notion of Doctor as rebel. Thanks for the concise history.
It’s nice to go back over it again.
It seems to me that there have been lots of little hints in new Who about the Doctor as
a hybrid rebel. But there are also a few I recall in other places. For instance 1 I like
from Lungbarrow about the Doctor having been teased because he has a belly button which
was something unique to him. That wasn’t a normal part of Galifreyan anatomy and all
the other Galifreyan kids teased him for it and called him wormhole. I thought about that
in “Listen” . Maybe in the scene where young Doctor was upset it was about being teased again?
In any case, going on just an instinct, I think we will get a few new origin hints during
this season.1 October 2015 at 05:18 #43875@bluesqueakpip Perhaps the hybrid Missy is talking about is the Doctor himself?
Remember in ‘The Power of Three’ the cubes cause the hearts of people over the whole Earth
to stop. But one of the Doctors hearts stopped too. Maybe 1 of his hearts is human
and the other is Galifreyan? It could be 1 clue that he is the hybrid. However I’ve
seen other clues that make good inferences about Clara as hybrid. I put a few I could
recall on post #43741 but I know that you know what they all are.
I’m going with both are hybrids. Which might be why Missy couldn’t choose where to
direct her words.1 October 2015 at 02:26 #43870@ichabod There’s a Mrs. Sarff that has democratically voted to hunt Missy
down to avenge her late SO. As we speak the Mrs. S. was patiently lurking around
and waiting for the moment when Missy was peaking again into her compact mirror.
Then she wanted to use her Medusa wavy locks to turn Missy into glossy granite .
But Missy used her vortex manipulator again!
I’ve checked it out and that’s the rumor π30 September 2015 at 23:55 #43865I watched the trailer for the next episode that apparently has ghosts in it. So I got to thinking
of the other ghost stories of the Series. My favorite ghost story is the “Unquiet Dead’ with
Charles Dickens played by Simon Callow also starting Eve Myles, the Geth and written by Mark Gatiss.
(I particularly love the stories when we meet Agatha Christie or Vincent Van Gogh or Leonardo
DaVinci.) Anyway, The Geth turned out to be aliens taking over dead people while they were trying
to find a way to travel across a time rift. Could this story have some of that type of thing with a
lot of water?
Probably a very bunkering concept but putting this thought here in casa people haven’t seen the trailer.30 September 2015 at 05:13 #43824I will miss not having Missy in the next episodes. Its obvious that Moffett has
been having a blast writing all the dialogue for her and Missy loves being Missy.
In fact it appears SM loves Missy so much that he’s given her a gift.
In the scene in the square (last episode) when she complains of a caffeine
buzz-monster I was thinking “wow” she’s not having any trouble with old drum beat in
her head anymore. She can even have a caffeine buzz! If she did have the drumming then
don’t think we’d have jolly Missy who is such a treat.
Hope she turns up later on in the season!30 September 2015 at 02:46 #43817@kharis I noticed that when Clara was tied and hanging she has both legs tied
as opposed to 1 leg tied and 1 bent as it appears on the tarot card I saw. So my question
is if you happen to know if that changes in any significant way the tarot message?
This is me being a bit nit picky over probably nothing and I’m really thinking it was
because of safety for Jenna but still just curious if you know if it makes any difference.30 September 2015 at 01:17 #4381329 September 2015 at 21:20 #43800@Icahabod @denvaldron You know guys I was thinking the same thing about Davros
having half a body as was I can imagine everyone else. So at a point I thought that
Davros probably still had legs. How they became separated from the rest of him
‘who nose’. They say amputees still can sometimes feel their missing parts.
Maybe Davros still wanted to pretend he had more of himself still attached.
Davros might have really become quite ‘attached’ to a deranged fantasy that there
were phantom legs filling out that bottom part?
But I bet he never had as much fun running it around in it as the Doctor did π29 September 2015 at 04:10 #43750So I don’t know if anyone mentioned this but we have so far 2 kings from the Arthur
Legend, King Bors who saves a maiden instead of his brother and also fights as
Guinevere’s champion and becomes Lancelot’s advisers in his disagreement with King
Arthur. We are next getting the Fisher King who was know as the wounded king. So
his kingdom suffers and becomes a wasteland. I bet we will get more Arthur characters
this season too!29 September 2015 at 02:27 #43742@jimmythetulip To be fair we can probably assume that Missy has been up and down Clara’s
timeline. Its conceivable that Clara could be a Missy version but there are so many good
competing possibilities. I think they all have a real chance and it’s all feels so deliciously
fiendish to me just like Missy does!29 September 2015 at 02:03 #43741@jimmythetulip I totally agree about Clara as a hybrid of something whether its a Missy version
or a claricle or possibly even the Valeyard as I have seen mentioned elsewhere. In any case as
I have said upstream I am convinced that she went into the time stream in Name of the Doctor and
died as River said she would. Whatever version of Clara that came out has something lurking inside
of the Clara façade. That is why she seemed different last season and your right about so many clues.
The Valeyard idea is quite interesting to me too. Apparently the anniversary of that episode is
approaching? Also, she has said some very Valeyard things last season. Like asking if she was a good
Doctor. She wanted to be accepted to be as good a Doctor as the original. There are clues that she may
have time lord in her. The fact that there were several Clara’s just like there are several Doctors,
the Tardis had some trouble with liking her for quite a while, the colors she wears, often red which
has symbolism, the time she wore a skirt that was the same pattern as the robes of Rasilon,
In the ‘Journey to the Center of the Tarddis’ she reads the Doctors book which should have been
written in Galifreyan so how did she understand it and so many other small things. Why? I know it
sounds nit-piky but why drop all these subtle clues? So in conclusion this has been my particular
obsession about the series. I love all the discussion about all the rest but its this puzzle in
particular that has the lock on me more than everything else. So when I watch the episodes I’m
watching as a detective for more clues to this mystery.
My last speculation is we might find out quite a lot by episode 10 called ‘Face the Raven’ because
Clara’s mother’s maiden name was Ravenwood. I’m also hoping we get more answers about why
Missy chose Clara because there has to still be more to that too.28 September 2015 at 05:10 #43670New bonkers theory. Missy was telling the truth about saying to the Doctor
‘the friend inside or the enemy and vice versa’. I’m going back to the Name
of the Doctor when River tells Clara if she goes into the time stream she will die.
So what if she did die. Who came out? Is there some other incarnation hiding/lurking
inside Clara? Is this a piece of the puzzle of what happens to end Clara this season?
Why did Missy say she chose Clara? Because she knows what is lurking inside Clara. She
apparently has been up and down her time stream. we all know that we are losing Clara.
I wonder if its possible that she dragged something out of the stream? Interesting we had
Clara masquerading as a Dalek. Last season the Doctor pretended to be a mechanical man
in Deep Breath. The Matrix pretends to be heaven. So what is ‘pretending’ to be Clara?
I think we will find out by episode 9 which is when I think Clara maybe leaving.28 September 2015 at 03:16 #43661@221badwolf I believe it is Kharis that put out that theory. I have been thinking
about the idea and I can only come up with the fact that River said she was psychically
connected to Clara in the Name of the Doctor. Also River was born to kill the Doctor
and Clara was born to save the Doctor which might imply that CAL who was all about
saving people in the Library might therefore have some connection to Clara? Its all
I got right now. But I would also like to hear more impressions about that from everyone.28 September 2015 at 01:25 #43652@geoffers Baker Doc had the most lovely things coming from his deep pockets
Magical folks always have amazing pockets π27 September 2015 at 23:51 #43634@kharis That also might help explain the telepathic link that River had with Clara
to some extent? I think we also saw a version of Clara as 1 of the Claricles behind
TenDoc in the Library? I definitely think she is a hybrid. This morning I thought
she could be linked to Missy. Now you’ve messed me up π lol27 September 2015 at 23:37 #43633@kharis I agree with you that Tasha is River ! I figured that out too.
Lem is Mel backwards too and Mel was the younger version that came just
before River. Also, not sure about the CAL-Clara?
Need to think about that more but its interesting! That would certainly work with
impossible girl though.
Cant locate this Tarot theory you mentioned today. But I would really like to find it.BTW- Are you in the Bay area? I live in Sactown π
27 September 2015 at 22:40 #43618Interesting that the sonic screwdriver is with Darvos as many of us thought River
would be the 1 to end up with it.@Bluewqueakpip The fact that Missy refers to it as a dark star reminds me
of Clara’s mother Ellie saying “Oh my stars” in the Rings of Akhaten although
I know its a major stretch to try to make that link of DNA. But there was
certainly some mystery built around Clara’s Mom along with the whole the souffle is
not the souffle its the recipe thing. Interesting about broaches being a unisex item
for Galifreyans too.
@kharis I’d also be interested to hear more about your Tarot theory too.27 September 2015 at 21:02 #43602Still stuck on the daughter idea and the notion of hybrids as it might
pertain to Clara. Was Missy’s daughter a hybrid? Clara’s mother’s last
name was Ravenwood. Ravens are usually thought of magical and also messengers
from another world according to symbolic meanings. My extremely bonkers theory
is that Clara’s mother that died was Missy’s daughter?@bluesqueakpip Ah-oh! I’ve latched onto this and I’ll be working
this 1 in my head for a bit π27 September 2015 at 20:09 #43591Does any one else recall the last time when the Doctor was willing to use
so much of his regeneration energy in an episode? It makes me wonder if
he feels having gotten a whole new set of regenerations he might feel
differently about using it as a tool? I wonder if we might see him doing it
again. He certainly feels differently about his sonic device.27 September 2015 at 19:46 #43586@bluesqueakpip – Sorry- the words are actually “the Doctor gave it to me when my
daughter…..” and I’m thinking died. But that implies to me he gave Missy a protection
gift. Plus it is a woman’s broach. So then Missy was a Missy before she became a
Master and decided to go back again? However he started out a boy. That reinforces that
Missy always has been a lunatic albeit a brilliant one.27 September 2015 at 19:35 #43582@bluesqueakpip “he gave it to me for my daughter” but she died? Was it was
for her daughter but she died and so she never got it?
Also, ‘dark star alloy goes thru armour like a knife thru people”
What might that imply? Was he giving it to the daughter as a protective
weapon?27 September 2015 at 18:52 #43576@Karis and everyone The Tarot concept intrigued me and I just found this
http://doctorwho.livejournal.com/8351535.html
which I will be reading up on ! looks very interesting to me
@juniperfish Thanks for your time loop summation. Love the loops!
27 September 2015 at 18:06 #43568The sunglasses had me thinking of Google glasses. I have to say I don’t like seeing
dark lenses indoors. I think it would be nice to have made them the transition type
that lighten up indoors. It isn’t comfortable wearing sunglasses indoors IMHO.
But maybe that’s just me.
@doctorcapaldi Missy got the idea of putting Clara in the Dalek from the
Doctor – such lovely wicked witchyness!
@Nluesqueakpip in-laws – hm!So exterminate means I love you in Dalek?
Clara ‘what are you doing” Missy “murdering a Dalek, its our golf” lol
It seems that between the T shirts and sunglasses and ‘Dudes’ they are really
trying to make the Doctor into a much hipper granddad27 September 2015 at 06:09 #43513I wonder if they will ever bring up the concept of the birth Looms in new Who.
Then at least I wouldn’t be having to wonder about the Mother/Father aspects.27 September 2015 at 06:03 #43511Just re watched the bit about the daughter and it appears the .gift was to Missy.
So my question becomes was she the daughters mother or father?Good to see the Doctor continue to outwit. Had me going there for a nano second!
But as usual he is 1 step ahead. How could I have ever doubted that??So Davros betrays and so does Missy but “I have to find the Doctor” she still goes
to save him. She is powerfully connected to him but powerfully jealous of Clara.
I wonder if she was jealous of affections given her daughter possibly from the Doctor?
Instead of running Missy could of beamed out. But then I guess we wouldn’t have been
able to see her clever idea.27 September 2015 at 04:57 #43508I feel a bit distraught about the Doctor giving up so much regeneration energy.
My concern is how it effects his future.
Daughter revelation – If the Doctor gave the gift to Missy’s daughter then how
is it that she still has it and not the daughter?
Poking Davros in the eye and riding around in the Davros chair!
Missy to Doctor “This is why I gave her to you – everyone’s a hybrid”.
Sounds like she wants to make the point about her own relationship to the Doctor
but it has to have more meanings.Just my first impressions
27 September 2015 at 03:06 #43506That was so freaking WOWSER!!! I’m trying to wrap my head around
it now so I will have to speak my thoughts later when I can do
it more coherently. But for me really an excellent opening to
the Doctor Who season.26 September 2015 at 23:28 #43487@IAmNotAFishIAmAFreeMan Are you also Pedant? Asking because of your @
26 September 2015 at 23:25 #43486@IAmNotAFishIAmAFreeMan HBO says it will last until season 8 – my bad! π
26 September 2015 at 19:58 #43445@hudsey I think you have good ideas! I’m on board with the notion of Missy ‘creep’
into Clara especially. Clara’s purple tights you know π I’ve always felt that
when Clara was rescued from the Doctor’s timeline she came out a Claricle. All
the claricles are all about saving the Doctor. It wouldn’t surprise me if Clara dies
saving the Doctor from Missy later in this season.26 September 2015 at 17:42 #43438I was re-watching last night too! I noticed a little thing about colors again.
It seems SM does a lot with the colors on some of the characters clothes and
in Magician Clara – who usually wears a lot of red – is now wearing purple tights
similar to Missy’s purple coat. Just saying..25 September 2015 at 18:53 #43411@papermoon Yes! agreed its SM’s joke. But jokes generally correspond
to observations on facts.25 September 2015 at 16:19 #43409Also, the time in Dark Water when Clara says “Clara Oswald never existed”! That clearly
felt to me like she wasn’t the original version.25 September 2015 at 15:52 #43408I was painting yesterday and while mixing paint colors I was also mixing in
some Doctor. It occurred to me that Missy wears purple. There is a lot of
careful color assignment in the series especially blue and red (and pink is a
little bit of red). So purple is the color when mixing blue and red. Maybe
its another clue. BTW, I watched Amy’s choice the other day and when she is
pregnant she is wearing red and blue. I thought that was odd. since that was
River she was pregnant with.
About being a claricle, I’m thinking that Clara went into the time stream
in the Name of the Doctor but it was 1 of the claricles that come back out.
Which of course means this is not ‘original’ Clara we are watching now. That
might account for the personality differences.24 September 2015 at 20:28 #43376As long as the Doctor thinks you are a ‘redeemable’ life form then yes, friend.
However if in his judgement there isn’t any possibility for redemption then
you are at that point still not necessarily an enemy but too dangerous to
other life forms to be left unattended to. I don’t think the Doctor likes
the idea of having enemies. Even his enemies are frenemies.
So yes, I would tend to agree that he may have been referring to Darvos as
the friend in the end scene.@papermoon Fairy tales are so different for kids today! When I was
a kid there wee no sunroofs in my fairy tales. π24 September 2015 at 16:57 #43355@idiotsavon Hey I remember you from way back π In season eight even when
they were zapped showing the red ‘after’ light they disappear. I agree however
that dead people usually leave behind their bodies.@brewski I was thinking that maybe she pre-dialed the vortex manipulators
at some point with a delay?24 September 2015 at 02:56 #43331@blenkisopthebrave I can imagine SM keeps up on all this kind of history too!
@purofilion During DW season I seem to get over taken with all the comings
and goings of this show. It’s great having the forum to share speculations and read
everyone else’s !!! Such extremely clever people here!Missy could have found the Doctor herself. She has always been able to follow and find
both him and Clara. So why does she really want Clara to be there? Hm?23 September 2015 at 22:54 #43323This is a bit off topic but it just seemed interesting. In the middle of the page
are pictures of ancient church graffiti to ward off evil and witches. Looks a little
like the markings on the Galifreyan CD. π23 September 2015 at 21:04 #43319Is the CD a key to something else? If the lines in the pattern are
made to line up then does that trigger a chameleon circuit to change
it into something else? The chameleon circuit on the Tardis makes
it look like a phone box . You can look at it and call it a phone box
but its not that. I cant wait to see when/if it turns into something!23 September 2015 at 02:46 #43277Also, why is the device so protected when Clara touches it. I don’t know why
its so important to use such extreme protections for a ‘confession dial’?
I think we are being distracted from the real purpose of the CD@denvaldron The baby boomers ! Literally a huge group of fans
that grew up watching the 4th Doctor on PBS in the states or Canada!
We all know some backstory to some degree and bring along
our kids into it. We were the first breakthrough long before SmithDoc.23 September 2015 at 02:34 #43276Another bonkers space cadet theory – So what if the CD a explosion or some weapon and
the missing piece activates it? If I were Missy getting a weapon sent to her by the Doctor
would really be extremely out of character? I bet that would get Missy worried!
Ok, maybe it isn’t something the Doctor is prepared to use but he knows Missy could.
It might some have instructions in it for her but I still think it has nothing to do with
wills or confessions. That was Missy not telling Clara what it really is. Because she’s
trying to win Clara’s confidence.22 September 2015 at 22:43 #43258@whisht Yes the ‘CD’ – Been thinking its more than what it seems too.
I think its interesting to think about it as unfinished. I think it has
another use beyond what the name implies. Plus the fact that it was sent
to Missy who was supposed to be dead? So the Doctor knew she wasn’t dead.
That implies to me that he had seen her before the goings on of this episode.
In fact to me it begs some questions about the Doctor plotting with Missy
to execute this new plan. They both could have an agenda. The Doctor’s is to
fix mistakes and Missy’s might be on behalf of the TL’s to attempt some damage
control of the Daleks. In any case, Missy seems incredibly engaged in helping
the Doctor which doesn’t happen to often (odd that?). And I don’t think she’s dead.
Or Clara. They showed the blue light which I think is a transporter as opposed to
the red light which would be death.
I also have to wonder if a missing piece in the ‘CD’ will make it change.
TL tech created many devices with strange functions, the Moment or Fob watches etc.
I wait with enormous anticipation for part 2 π22 September 2015 at 22:01 #43254@supernumerary The big box screen pop out of Missy you refer to
when she is speaking with UNIT is actually something in a UK children’s show.
Remember the Simms master liked to watch the Teletubbies. So my guess is that
its a reference to the TV viewing tastes of the Master/Missy.
( Gee, I wonder what that might be?)
But the younger viewers of the show would get that.22 September 2015 at 04:54 #43219for those of you that follow the viewer statistics I just read that the viewing
broke records in the states! It also got great numbers down under. Its on
Doctor Who News22 September 2015 at 04:31 #43215@Purofilion Regarding ‘not dead big surprise’
So how is it that the Doctor knows he can send the confession device to Missy. He had to
know she wasn’t dead. Something to do perhaps with that blue light when she was zapped off?
Was that a clue for him? Well it was the same blue lights we saw again when Missy and Clara
get zapped to death by the Daleks. Therefore, to my thinking they both survived.BTW, like how you tie ‘Into the Dalek’ into the current episode.
22 September 2015 at 00:34 #4319521 September 2015 at 22:54 #43178BTW Did the Daleks really procure the Doctors Tardis? Or was a stand in?
Just cause it looks like the Tardis doesn’t make it the real item. There
was that time when we had 2 Tennant Docs. Why not?21 September 2015 at 22:30 #43175@scaryb I also thought it was quite chilling to hear the Doctor say ‘exterminate’.
I briefly entertained the possibility that the Daleks most infamous phrase could have
originated from him? Too hard to acceptIts tantalizing to imagine that the Doctor would recruit Missy. But then I can imagine
that its why Missy returned from Galifrey. Damage control of the Daleks? They
both have their own reasons to implement this plan. However, that is probably only
a part of Missy’s total agenda. At this point I’m convinced that the CD is in no way
just a document. Although it may include certain instructions it has to have some other
application. -
