    @gamergirlavatar  @missy  @janetteb   Yes; Moffat and Capaldi used S9 and S10 in particular to push the Doctor as far into the dark as they could — without turning the show into something that younger viewers would no longer be comfortable with or understand.  Not that kids don’t experience loss, pain, heroism, and despair, on the scale of the…[Read more]

  • Thanks @missy, first let me say that I’m glad your going to at least watch the first two episodes to see if you like them and at one point, I stopped watching Doctor Who after I gave the 10th Doctor a chance so I completely understand why you might stop watching. Also, I understand the concern about political correctness influencing the casting…[Read more]

    Why does it have to be a female? No one has come up with an adequate answer

    Yeah, they have. But it’s not adequate *to you*. No answer can be adequate *to you* because you don’t want a female Doctor.

    Can you just accept that gender-switching the Master to Missy was a magnificent success? And that earlier, the Sarah Jane Adventures…[Read more]

    @missy  Why does it have to be a female? No one has come up with an adequate answer

    I think it’s the wrong question; that’s why.  “It” doesn’t *have* to be “a female”.  But IMO it *is* a good idea to find new ways to vary the recipe (ways that speak to the culture that’s happening at the time) in order for the cake not to become flat, stale, an…[Read more]

    @gamergirlavatar  I’m a lot more nervous about Chibnall than I am about Whittaker, myself, but that’s because Moffat is the kind of writer whose work I enjoy — for its energy, its daring, and its intelligence — and I’ve found what I’ve seen of Chibnall’s work flatfooted and draggy.  But maybe the DW challenge will bring out some spark in him t…[Read more]

    Aw shucks that was awfully decent of you!

    Yes, I am now 16. And my acne has really set in. On a positive note, my hair is turning curly and I’m taller.

    Thank you  :

    @missy   Thanks for the reminder — Happy birthday, Thane!

    And thanks for the 5 Meet as well — I can get BBC Radio four on my computer!  I think I did once, anyway.

    @missy our local supermarket no longer stocks the genuine article and I did not have time to make them so we had to make do with the poor substitute.

    @missy  @bluesqueakpip

    There is a documentary that features the filming of ‘Friend from the Future’ very heavily. But it itself is not in the boxset. Boxsets have always been good to include all the extra bits & bobs in the past. The trailers don’t seem to be in it either, & those have always been in boxsets before…

    The boxset is a slight…[Read more]

    @Missy

    It was the promo scene for Bill that the BBC used; it was broadcast as a scene from the first episode.
    However, it was filmed before the first episode, and when they did the final editing the promo scene just didn’t work. It didn’t fit within the main story of ‘The Pilot’.

    So it’s now a standalone scene: I suspect Steven Moffat has…[Read more]

    @missy Unfortunately the soundtrack releases stopped after Series 8 so no “Heaven Sent” music for you… 🙁 Just another example of how poorly the Twelfth Doctor’s era was served….

    Like @thane15 I agree with you @missy re white goods and many other things but creative people do “run dry” especially when working on the same stuff. This is why Moffat moved on, before he ran out of ideas and began to recycle. He was already beginning to do so and though I am sure that he had a lot more to give he recognised that he was…[Read more]

    Given that there’s been no definite announcement that he’s leaving, I’d guess that it’s currently ‘in negotiation’. Quite possibly Chris Chibnall wants a musical shake-up to go with the gender shake-up, and the two of them are seeing if they can go with what the other wants. I wouldn’t say ‘no’ to a musical shake-up; I’ve got CDs and CDs…[Read more]

    @missy @thane15  Thanks for trying to help.  Since I last wrote there’s been another mass shooting in my country.  It’s pretty clear that the powers-that-be would rather bodies be stacked up like cordwood instead of trying to undo the power of the gun lobby.  I’ve signed petitions, sent postcards to my representatives, and nothing gets don…[Read more]

  • @Missy I said the same when Ecclestone was leaving, and when Tennant was going, and when Matt Smith moved on. It is always hard to let go and I would like every one of the AG Doctors to have done at least one more series.

    Well, there you are, I rest my case. You can’t help how you feel can you.

    Except my feelings are based on a programme I’ve seen; your feelings are based on a programme you haven’t seen yet.

    I rest my case.

    wonder just how many Whovians truly *like* the idea, or aren’t outspoken enough to say that they don’t.

    I think many Whovians – even if they don’t like the idea – are willing to see it as an experiment. Gender-switching the Master to Missy worked magnificently; so time to try the same with the Doctor. Will it work? Well, until we try it…[Read more]

    You never can tell until you’ve seen the new Doctor (in more than one scene).

    I was really looking forward to Peter Capaldi’s run – and yet somehow (for me) he never got beyond being some Time Lord who called himself The Doctor. Yet John Hurt was (again, for me) effortlessly ‘The Doctor’ in his single TV appearance. Weird. And I know a…[Read more]

    @Missy sorry for my rant. It is a sore subject with me at the mo’ having just spent a few days with friends one of whom gave the “what your boys should be doing” lecture with no awareness of the reality of life in the twenty first century and was totally unwilling to listen. Also having been screwed by the government this year, our sons can’t get…[Read more]
