Worst Christmas special of AG Who? Naahh – for me thats the Matt Smith Narnia tree people thing (forget the name)
Definately the third quarter where it fell down for me, ending was meh but I like the idea of giant stompy robots dagnabbit.
(Watched waaaay to much Transformers, Robotech and Zoids when I was younger. Then there’s all the anime!)
But yes, it felt like a different script writer in the second half. A lot more stilted – if it was real life, a lot more “uh, erm, ahh” would have been said.
Cybershade – I feel sorry for the cybermen, a Dalek is a Dalek- Iconic. Cybermen are like the Gobots. Pale imitations.
13 March 2014 at 15:05 #26370What about Ducktales? Sure theres a crocodile in it somewhere. 😛
Anyone still wayching Musketeers? Last weeks was a bit weak but next weeks looks like a belter. Though they’ve done the typical “bloke sees his evil ex” bit and “Dogtanian gets it on” bit
(I will always refer to him as Dogtanian, greatest ever interpretation!)
3 January 2014 at 10:44 #23831Wow. Lots of new people arriving. None of you are Romanian right? The Daily Mail won’t like you coming here on taking our blog posts!
(God I hate that paper)
Welcome Tekdrudge! Lots of us are Nuwho (I’m a TV movie / Nuwho myself).
I really need to watch more Old Who. Might sit and watch some on Youtube. After I watch Thor, and The Hobbit, and play some games, and read some books, and…..
Grrr. We need to elimate work!
2 January 2014 at 12:15 #23808A girl?!
Are girls allowed on the internet?
😉
In all seriousness, welcome to all newbies, may your Who-ness be Cloister Bell’d across the dimensions
Or something.
Anyway, back at work and wishing I was still drunk! Huzzah
19 December 2013 at 13:59 #23129I think the irratability comes from Oswald Dalek not turning Carmen off and constantly harping on about her Souffle.
Theres always one irrating relative at Christmas!
18 December 2013 at 12:27 #23050Hahaha, @MartyB – I work in Automotive so after a day reading Nissan or Honda technical specs is enough that I go home and don’t read anything that isn’t ‘Dog ate bone, bone was bad, Dog was sick. Dog died’.
(The Dog died series is excellent)
17 December 2013 at 15:21 #22974@MartyB
Technically, I’ve read the Etiquette tab, but then again, I’ve technically read my companies HR guidelines- If you asked me for a quote from it, I wouldn’t have a clue 😛
17 December 2013 at 15:09 #22973Hahaha, the Lurker at the Threshold indeed!
I lurk as I can’t usually add anything to the conversation. Never stops me at work like.
16 December 2013 at 15:01 #22895There was ‘The Cartmel Masterplan’ back in the olden days (and I’m sure some of what I’m about to say will be corrected) but they were trying to restore some mystique and grandeur to the Doctor in McCoys reign, making him more mysterious and dropping hints about him being a Timelord creator.
In the novel ‘Lungbarrow’ its said that Rassilon, Omega and ‘The Other’ created the Eye of Harmony etc etc and ‘The Other’ threw himself into the Genetic Looms by which TL are created and The Doctor is supposed to be his reincarnation.
I’ve always though Moffat was going to lead upto something around that for the 50th.
5 December 2013 at 12:58 #22277Companion wise, I’m hoping we (like @Shazzbot) get an Alien, or even a Human from a different time period. Jamie-like for example. Victorian Claricle would have been excellent.
What is everyone wanting from the next series?
Me, I’m hoping for a full blow arc. Not one or two episodes that center around it. But something in every episode, hints and clues to pour over.
Dependent on Xmas episode, Gallifrey not to be found. That deserves to be a multi season thing, maybe little bits restored as we go(the painting broken up?)
I want a good explanation of why Capaldi / Baker etc played two roles – I think he’s said that’ll be resolved?
5 December 2013 at 12:42 #22276@Shazzbot
I dunno, I think he’ll only appear last 5 minutes tops. This is Smiths swansong remember, so unless they do a Two Doctor story (oooooh, wouldn’t THAT be good!) they won’t overshadow him by booting him off halfway
@rob – By combining the Quantum Entanglement theory of that all space is linked and that Space can be ‘folded’ – this could explain how the TARDIS flies. It ‘folds’ space to make Point A and Point B (wherever and whenever) the same and travels down the tunnel it makes. But a lot cleverer than I just said,
Also, @rob, @Shazzbot – Clara in TDoTD is more a link to Observer Principle IMO – you cannot view the actions and measure them without changing them (i.e – measuring something with a Voltmeter, because it is wired in will change that circut)
4 December 2013 at 15:40 #22237Personally, the thing I want to see (and I appreciate it has nothing to do with anything else) is the Doctors significant other.
Not River (unless it is River), the Grandmother of Susan. Thats been bugging me for years!
23 November 2013 at 09:46 #21227Hope the Dean Swift went well, although I wasn’t online I raised a glass to HTPBDET.
Hopefully will still make it to Cinema tonight, might have to watch it at home but I should be ok. CANNOT WAIT, this is gonna be awwwweeesome
22 November 2013 at 01:31 #21133Loved that. Fantastic.
Though the Matt Smith scene really jarred for me, it was nice, (nd maybe this is how my mind works) but it kicked me out and I started theorising. WOuld have been better if they’d had images of all 10 other Doctors around the Tardis.
What else happened after credits? My SKy Box cut it out halfway through the Peter Davison bit
21 November 2013 at 15:28 #21070Hmm, I read that line completely differently again.
The Souffle is not the end product, its the recipe-all the little things that go into a life – that makes the souffle
20 November 2013 at 14:48 #21008You see, I just can’t resist Spoilers. I have to know. Its like Chocolate cake!
18 November 2013 at 01:11 #20877Did I miss something with The Twonkfaces?
10 November 2013 at 09:46 #20465Oh mercy!
I stick by my theory from a few days ago!
Theory: – The Timewar was creating havoc thru Time and Space and was on the verge of destroying it.
The Doctor used ‘The Moment’ to off the Eye of Harmony into his Tardis to power down the Timelords – the people he considered responsible. With no power, the Daleks would destroy them, he was hoping they’d back off and negotaite. This is what he did for ‘Peace and Sanity’
But Rassilon has other ideas. He delved into Gallifreys past and brought up other horrors – beings of power that fought for Gallifrey. This is the Doctors secret – he interfered and created a worse monster in corrupt timelords.
The Moment (really a shard of the Eye Of Harmony) is a device used to create a timelock – Knowing he failed The Doctor created a timelock around his worst nightmares – Time Lords Corrupt – and hid the moment in 1562 – with Elizabeths OK. He dissapeared though leaving no instructions on what it was apart from it being dangerous – thats why she tried to get him in The Shakespeare Code.
The Moment is sat both radiating energies and absorbing the hopes and dreams of a London in turmoil. And it is awakening.
As it awakens, the seal on the Timewar loosens – The horrors are returning and The Doctor returns but the Time Energies snap Him, Hurt and 10 side by side
Only Hurt Doctor can put the Moment back to sleep and and He, 10 and 11 must work together to Reseal the Time War, stop the Moment from creating Chaos whilst protecting it from those who covet it (Zygons, Daleks etc)
6 November 2013 at 13:41 #20094Ooooh, I am well looking forward to this!

5 November 2013 at 16:07 #20078Press release and a My Little Pony Dog.
Page full of Win
1 November 2013 at 09:47 #19779I think yeah, the Zygons (and Daleks!) will be in the movie, but I think the main enemy will be time itself. There is an official picture released off 10,11 and Hurt in the Tardis together.
Something Hurt did, really bad, but it stopped the destruction of time – or ‘The Moment’ he used to seal the Time War caused ripples that are really, really bad.
But I think they’ll flick through various adventures, Genesis of the Daleks, Terror of Zygons, The Aztecs? Tomb of the Cyberman etc etc etc.
They’ll be sealing ‘The rip of continuity’ ™ while we see the Doctor in that adventure in the background, or a bit of interaction. This allows retrospective, other doctors to appear in some way and we get to nerdgasm
31 October 2013 at 18:22 #19747This isn’t ‘official’ news but it apparently comes from Moffat interview
13 Episodes in 2014 for Capaldi
30 October 2013 at 15:48 #19587Oh.
I just read this. @htpbdet you will be missed. Even though I did not have much interaction with you personally, your blog posts have been the highlight of this site for me.
Its knocked me for six this. I’m gonna go hide in the works toilets now.
25 October 2013 at 14:13 #19301Brilliant!
Thank you Shazz!
25 October 2013 at 11:28 #19285Kinda, its the bit that states: SHOW.
Dunno if its a Javascript link thats being blocked or just a webpage that the proxy is stopping
25 October 2013 at 10:37 #19277Oh, and i just spotted these on BBC america
http://www.doctorwho.tv/whats-new/images/doctor-who-50-year-trailer-behind-the-scenes
Most interesting for me is that it states its a lookalike of Hartnell on the Trailer. That seems to knock out the theory its upscaled image – John Hurt is the policeman? 😉
EDIT: Think these may have been seen already – ignore me if they have and feel free to slap
25 October 2013 at 10:30 #19276Can anyone direct link me to the photos please?
I can’t view them at work so a direct link would be welcome 🙂
24 October 2013 at 13:29 #19208I’ve just realised something.
The Silence were essentially good guys!
Silence will fall when the question is asked.
The question – Whats your name Doctor?
The silence – the death of the universe and all the people he has saved.
We only assume that after the GI changed everything and Clara jumped in everything else came back. We know Strax, Jenny and Madame Vastra did but they are in the Eye of the Storm so to speak.
What if not everything did / Clara didn’t stop everything? Could something have changed for the worse? Could something be released?
Did the Silence forsee the Doctor jumping in as well and does that negate all Claras changes if the timestream is collapsing?
I think it will be significant that the Silence aren’t around when the question is asked (we know that they are in AGMGTW and I’m assuming its future set) and I think they’ll be featuring for sure as they are trying to save the world (through nefarious means)
21 October 2013 at 12:35 #18886Fair enough. Don’t know them well enough to say 100% (I also couldn’t spell sili-whatsit)
21 October 2013 at 12:15 #18884Racnoss was my thought but seemed too spidery.
Reminded me most of the True form of IT in the Stephen King movie adaptation.
If it is Hurt before it could be a simple a thing of saying he’ll be facing DT/MT.
One other thing – are they the original actors?
Seems to me the Hartnell and Pertwee weren’t.
Hartnell looks like Filch (Can’t remember real name) and doesn’t Pertwee have a son who looks like him?
Could be why Troughton was only in shadow
21 October 2013 at 09:00 #18875Can’t view that list.
But does anyone know what the Spider thing on the rocks on the left hand side (Best seen as you slide past the orb I think) is?
20 October 2013 at 09:54 #18804Spoiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiilllllllllllllllers
Lalala
Lalala
Just looked at this page on BBC
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-24038234
Is this a spoiler?
20 October 2013 at 09:40 #18803Dunno, but theres a face reflected in the globe just before you see Clara?
And just before DT there is a character with his back to you wearing braces?
Capn Jack?
17 October 2013 at 15:42 #18643@scaryb – Hahahahaha, I was tempted to write “Timey Wimey Wibbly Wobbly” but I had to go to a meeting
17 October 2013 at 14:24 #18635Oooh, what if the only way to get rid of Mr ‘I done some evil me’ Hurt Doctor was for 10 / 11 to merge with him?
That way, the Xmas episode is mainly Matt but occasionally morphing into one of the other doctors. A meta-crisis of some sort.
That way when it is resolved, he becomes……Mr Capaldi
(And you can make up some mumbo jumbo to give him back regenerations)
16 October 2013 at 21:59 #18607Episode 1
oooh, PT in Credits! Flashy light on Tardis door – important?
PT is quite casual about bigger on inside – Almost like a museum tour for a new companion!
450 years old? Wonder how the timeline works if you figure it out Tardis wardrobe? We’ve not seen that since DT regenerated
Banter!
An expedition – thats gonna end well(!)
I like the dialogue in this. Humour is not bad and quite snappy.
Oooh, an obligatory woman!
Yeah, never volunteer mate – Ha, typical!
What happened? He’s dead is what happened.
Again with the volunteers!
PT is concerned straight away. He’s the Doctor all right.
Oooh, You show me yours, I’ll show you mine! Share and share alike I say
Ooooh, chilling – CYBERMEN
Head back on your own….just don’t say “I’ll be right back”
Is that jacket too big for PT – looks like his dads Is Frazier Hines actually scottish or is his accent just bad?
So is the Obligatory Womans (OW)
Is that a early Macguffin? I like PT
No Victoria, this isn’t going to go well!
Ah a compliment, I wish every that worked for me!
–Advert Break–
Definately either Cybermen or someone who worships Bender from the symbols
Scheming OW. Oh a hatch – have none of you watched a scary movie?
Oh you have to show off don’t you Doctor? Hahahaha, owned
I think Toberman is gonna die, seems like a redshirt
For some reason PT reminds me of Steptoe
Oh Fiddles! I’m stealing that
Oh revitalised – Chekovs Gun?
Oh don’t get in Victoria.
Alpha Mason Phospher – I want one
Hahaha, Cybermat!
Wheel of fortune!
Secrets insoluable – can you disolve a secret? Maths – too late at night
You know that moment where you think the doctor is being a bit scheming to get others to do his dirty work. Yeah – explain
Binary Notation then say ‘Oh I wouldn’t’!
No, no no! DOn’t start the wheel of fortune!
And now it begins!
Scheming OW – here we go!
Oh you have to touch it!
Oooh, Hypno Wall
Ooh, raygun?
Duh duh duh duh! Dr to the rescue.
Jamie loves the wall!
Father figure doctor.
You probably don’t want to go down there do you?
I know you’re probably ignoring my warnings….oh, lasergun and dead. CYBERMAN…..
16 October 2013 at 21:17 #18601Right, I’ve never reallywatched old Who before, but I watched th Aztecs last week so I’m going to watch ToTC now and post stream of conciousness as I go! This is on Watch so unsure if it states Ep 1 / 2 etc as Aztecs didn’t.
Please @craig (or someone else) edit out any Ep 2 info if I stray into accidently.
I’ll try and do every episode but I can’t promise it!
16 October 2013 at 10:08 #18578As a bit of a aside – I wonder if JH has a red tip and MS/DT have Green as SM is a Star Wars fan?
All sith have Red/Orange etc and Jedi tend to have Green/Blue etc?
A bit meta perhaps?
(I’m not sure I’m using that word right!)
10 October 2013 at 09:52 #18100***Placeholder Text**
Ladedelalala
Oh dear. I’ll be glad if CT does return. Yet another focal point for my theory above (I’ll be punting that one at every stage)
9 October 2013 at 13:46 #18063Thanks Shazz, just checked and the possible possible was announced but better safe than sorry.
@scaryb – Apologies
9 October 2013 at 13:32 #18056Locations were in Radio Times and I thought QE1 was officially announced as well.
But now I’m bricking it that it wasn’t!
@craig, @Shazzbot – Can one of you move / Delete please just in case?
9 October 2013 at 11:33 #18048Right, Bonkers theory time:
We know several things about the special. Zygons, Daleks, Tennant, Hurt, Smith. Kate Stewart, Queen Elizabeth 1st, a Hashtag on twitter of #Savetheday, Totters Lane and Coal Hill School (Ft in Unearthly CHild, Remembrance of Daleks, Attack of Cyberman), Rose and Clara.
John Hurt is an aged Paul Mcgann Doctor, twisted by his actions in the Time War, he has decided that Time itself must be destoyed. He does not want to live and erasing himself from time at a focal point it will rebound onto time even more. and kill Time. It may even be this bitter war that the alliance of races were ultimately trying to stop.
At some point between Time Locking and Eccleston, he starts travelling to various ‘focal points’ in time. When we first meet Hartnell, Shakesperian times, current times – points where the Cracks in time appear. This allows for older doctors to appear in flashback like in TNoTD and Daleks and Zygons. We see their stories but with Hurt doctor intefering.
He then tries (somehow) to reopen the cracks, to destroy time.
In a timey-wimey loop, he is stopped by by Tennant and Smith (with help from Rose and Clara) and locked within his own timestream., but not before he escapes to Trenzalore, crashes his Tardis and blows some stuff up.
Clara acts a lock on the Timestream due to travelling within the timestream and sealing him creates a tear (the glowy thing in the tomb). This resets the timelines and only 10/11 are left knowling about it as it concerns their timestream.
BUT because nobody remembers except the doctor, the tomb is opened, Clara jumps in the timestream therefore releasing HurtDoctor at his original point in the timestream. They travel back to stop him…timeloop ensues!
Badly worded but I hope you can understand my reasoning
9 October 2013 at 10:47 #18044Apparantly (according to the guy in the Dr Who shop in my town) Nottingham will be.
Everyone come to Notts!
9 October 2013 at 10:18 #18043Watched this again last night, and on second (or fifth) viewing I quite liked it.
Yes, its got problems. As was stated upstream, tries to do too much too soon too fast and Alex Kingston (and I never thought I’d say this) goes a bit too campy and manic first off.
Still, good points, action, clever dialogue, the Doctor and River Mels trying to outsmart each other.
Question, Mels said she regenerated into a Toddler in New York. Surely thats in 1960s New York?
How did either A) A toddler get from USA-England on their own
B) Mels grow up a bit first (to get to England) then revert back to childhood?
9 October 2013 at 10:11 #18042Dunno if this is the right place to put this, but Watch are doing a Doctors retrospective every weekend (think everyone knows about this?)
But it starts this weekend!
Look at Hartnell, The Aztecs, a few ‘Science-y of Dr Who” and (randomly) Voyage of The Damned.
Record set!
7 October 2013 at 14:29 #17957SHIELD I liked, mainly because I squee’d when Ron Glass came on stage. Coulson is probably a Zombie 😀
7 October 2013 at 13:53 #17955THanks @whisht.
I am still popping in, but I can never check from home when I’ve got three kids and a missus to talk to (apparantly its rude) and can’t really do it from work as too busy! Though trying to make time on lunch and when kids in bed / fiancee at work.
As for meeting up, not unless I can blag a supplier / customer visit in London on the day, planning a wedding so I am sadly very very skint!
9 August 2013 at 11:47 #15734To put a dampner on the Bonkers Theory (which I do like), I always assumed River felt sick (this was in the warehouse right??) because of the timeline issues.
Her younger abducted self is there, she is there, her mum is there and its all going a bit bonkers.Did we firmly establish when Amy was nicked as well? I can’t remember an exact time.
If she is a ganger, she would have to be back to normal by the libary, otherwise the body would have melted and connection broken. Also, what happened to Kovarian? SHe died in the alternate universe, but surely she’s alive in the normal?
6 August 2013 at 09:07 #15527Its not discrimination, I’m ginger. Gingers suck 😉
6 August 2013 at 07:52 #15515Ahhhh Gina Bellman, think she’d make a good Romana personally (if the other time lords ever came back into it)
