It feels a bit quiet on the site and circumstances seem to be moving fast, and more of us (of a certain age) seem to be self-isolating. Hopefully, things will pass, but it would be great if there was a place where…[Read more]

Yeah, Dracula was a rare treat. You’ve already covered many points I had in my notes, but thanks for the reference to the barmaid in the Rose & Crown. Completely missed that on first watch!

I just thought it was constructed brilliantly. I just wanted to point out that the most controversial point…[Read more]

What if the Child is effectively physically harnessed to all Time Lords  -their very ability to be TLs contingent upon the role of the Child to exist across all dimensions & eternally?

I really like that idea, not least because it is compatible with my theory and also with the idea that the Time Lords are the result of radical genetic…[Read more]

Oh good, we are discussing Moffat and Gatiss’ Dracula!

I said this on T’Other Place, after seeing Part 3:

“I think it played with the source material quite beautifully (“bloofer lady”) and found a way to incarnate the Victorian gothic themes of sublimated carnality, purity, corruption and death into the…[Read more]

  • @fatmaninabox it was Mina who had a bit of a thing for the barmaid, which to me means Victorian Clara confirmed. Agree about sister Agatha, was quite glad to see her come back.

Episode two- The Master! The actors had a pretty good new year period!

@pedant – additionally, I felt as though he realised that he’d always thought he could die any time…[Read more]

To be fair, I’m not sure stakes would be terribly effective against wolves and also, of course, wolves come with their own fear-lore.

Another easter egg: the ward Zoe was in was ward AD 72. Check out IMDB if not familiar.

Burned Lucy was epic and her demise a splendid nod to Buffy.

    @thane16 Syzygy Snr.

Good questions all. I’ll try and answer them without slipping into party politics.

The reason you are confused about proportional representation in the UK is that it does exist, but not in national elections. There was a referendum in 2011 to change to Alternative Vote System, turnout about 42%, verdict ‘No’. So there we…[Read more]

On many levels, this is very bad. I had no idea proportional representation didn’t exist. I had no clue Corbyn was  Marxist, anti-Semitic, pro IRA.

@fatmaninabox  I do not know enough about British politicians or politics to comment but I do know a lot about “bad language” and you have impressed me a lot with that second one. I will be borrowing it to describe some equally despised politicians in my country. Thanks for that.

London largely went Labour, or stayed Labour. The ‘red wall’ in the heartlands is breached; one of the suggestions for the loss of seats that were Labour for generations is “It is not rocket science that calling your own voters fascist scum and trying to erase their democratic vote would not end well.”

    I…[Read more]

one more piece of proof the he is trying to fundamentally change how The Doctor is perceived. From Jodie Whittakers portrayal of The Doctor and the writing this season and now a new year’s episode instead of Christmas episode he has changed the series beyond salvation. In short, Doctor Who has been ‘fundamentally changing’ since it was first broadcast and I dare say it will continue to do so for as long as it continues being made.

An absolutely brilliant post where every example you used was perfect.

    Good to see you again.
