@craig I turned on silent mode on my phone between 0:00 and 6:00am partly because I got notifications from the site that someone (from different time zone) had mentioned me. No complaints. I love it. But I love to sleep too. It works.
24 April 2016 at 10:21 #51850When I saw her name ‘Bill’ I started to wonder if she is a girl or a boy who looks like a girl. I gues Bill is an abbrevation for Billie. A tribute to Billie Piper?
23 April 2016 at 19:02 #51821@thedentistofdavros as a regular I meant that she doesn’t look like a girl who was born to save the Doctor. She appears to be a bit silly, happy-go-lucky person who won’t be flight the Tardis. And I got to like her from the first moment.
23 April 2016 at 18:24 #51812When I saw the boots in the promo pic I thought it could be Courtney. I was close 😉 She reminds me Rose a bit. I think it will be a nice change. It seems that she is a regular, human girl. I like that.
23 April 2016 at 11:47 #51802I will accept every companion except Courtney Woods.
Adric is one of my favourite companions. Shame that 5 was in a such bad mood that he refused to save him.
20 April 2016 at 20:06 #51749@jilso11 known also as Valeria wants to be my friend. I bet she wants to be your friend either. Oh wait, it’s adanna again.
28 March 2016 at 15:17 #51492I find it rather fortunate that Christopher Ecclestone left after only one season. Not because I think he was terrible. On the contrary I think he was marvellous. The perfect match for that role. I would of course welcome another season with him but it was such a good comback that the next season could spoil that impression. And I think that’s why so many people love 9 (I’m so happy that it wasn’t he who almost blew Gallifrey). Not to mention that Ecclestone is a superb actor. His spell was short but complete.
I can’t say that about 12. He’s the Doctor without essence. And the last two seasons seem to me a bit hollow. So I would welcome a change.
27 February 2016 at 04:31 #51116@arbutus @puroandson
How weird he looks with this beard and black, leather coat singing (almost) like a castrato.
Funny thing. Only yesterday I was deleting some single tracks from my phone and I was to delete one of them but I left it because it was Sholl’s Ombra mai fu.
11 February 2016 at 19:43 #50951@doctordani @kbranagh
<p style=”text-align: left;”>And what about a situation in which Davros kills the Doctor and he can’t save Davros in the past? Would it erase Davros from the history and prevent him from killing the Doctor (and many more)? I think in both cases Davros would survive because of the screwdriver.</p>
7 February 2016 at 23:41 #50895Poor Adric, you were worth hundred of Clara Oswald. My last five episodes: Hell bent, The Husbands of River Song, The Power of Three, The Angels take Manhattan and The Earthshock, in other words the last Clara’s appearance, the last River’s appearance (presumable), the number of companions which Doctor should travel with in the next series, the death of Amy and Rory and death of Adric. What a run.
31 January 2016 at 20:00 #50713I’m watching the Power of Three and I wonder whether Brian has ever met River? In the end she was his family. Who else left for him (except that unofficial Amy and Rory’s adoptive son)? Scriptwriters haven’t thought much about companions’ families lately.
28 January 2016 at 07:21 #50620@puroandson
No, I meant this guy, from the twin planet of Raxacoricofallapatorius (ep. Love & Monsters).
28 January 2016 at 00:33 #50607I don’t like any plastic or rubber aliens, whether it’s Doctot Who, Star Trek or Alien (I’m a sci-fi lover and I’ve never seen that movie, not because it was my decision not to watch it, but I’ve never been curious) unless they’re treat with humour. And that applies to both Slitheen and Clom (and the alien from the Cartaker). The guy from Clom was hilarious.
26 January 2016 at 17:46 #50529Quoting Amelia Pond, “Oh, get a grip Obi-Wan Kenobi”! Have you registered on this forum only to tell people that they are wrong?!
@puroandson
Give my regards to your mum. I’m listening Prokofiev Piano Concert no 2 and think about her.
I don’t really know if I want Capaldi to stay. 12 has such a strong personality and he tells a lot that he saves people, but he has made so many mistakes doing that. I know it’s good for drama but I need a positive boost. Shame I have to wait for it so long.
16 January 2016 at 00:34 #50168I miss our weekly discussions but at the same time I’ve reached the point in which I think there’s no point in discussing the last DW episides because Hell bent was a perfect ending and all I can say about it is “Well done, good job” and things like that. The Husbands of River Song wasn’t so perfect to me but it was another ending so it will not have much impact on the future events. But I wrote down some of my random thoughts on Doctor Who and few other things.
1. 12 is the first Doctor whom I don’t like. I’m not saying I dislike him because I don’t, but I don’t have many positive feelings towards him either. Let’s say I would not like to have him as my friend (he probably would not have me as his friend but I’m perfectly fine with that). I hope that will change.
2. Few days ago I watched Inception. I was rather prejudice against that movie because I thought it was something about making business in the future. But after I watched it for the first time I watched it again the next day (it took already almost 6 hours of my life!) and I think about watching it for the third time. I had the same feeling about almost every Doctor Who episode in the past (the last episode which I watched more than 3 times in a row was the Cartaker). But from series 7 onwards my curiosity has been growing weaker and weaker. I’m still deeply in love with the Doctor (the character) but at the same time I think that I know most of the tricks of Steven Moffat and his team (although Robin Hood with his false beard and a wig and the Moonegg was a hell of surprise). My point is that I feel that the time for some changes is getting closer and closer.
3. David Bowie sadly passed away few days ago. He is one of my favourite musicians/artists of all time. I even imagined him as the perfect companiom for 12. Shame that that will never happen but I prefer to celebrate how he died than mourn that it happend.
4. I think it was @puroandson fantastic idea to describe Doctor as a single classical piece of music. (I’ve tried to find this conversation but I’m still unsuccessful. It was weeks ago). But I still think about it, especially nowdays. And I can’t really decide which piece of music would express the nature of 12. Maybe Jean Sibelius’s Finlandia?
Cheers!
1 January 2016 at 00:53 #49888Many happy returns!
30 December 2015 at 01:17 #49842Have I missed something again?! I don’t really think so. I had just different expectations. Maybe I shouldn’t have any but you know, you just can’t control that. Sometimes you want to watch something really cheerful, sometimes something more serious or melancholic. And this christmas special was the mix of these moods. I thought that at the closure of her life River would be more philosophical, maybe more stoic (like in A Good Man goes to War). That was my vision and it didn’t come true.
It’s a miracle that Lemmy lived so long. My Dad and I have always called him the Wart or Mr Wart.
30 December 2015 at 00:35 #49839@arbutus @puroandson
My problem with Clara was that for two seasons I didn’t know who exactly she was or what was her status. In her first series she had been someone like a usual companion. A human girl who is Doctor’s assistant/friend/want to be a girlfriend. It was fine, but it didn’t work really well for me. In the next season she became someone like Doctor’s caretaker/teacher/even a Doctor! And many people didn’t like it either. So her role changed again and she became an apprentice and in my opinion it turn out to be a success. A bit late if we keep in mind that Jenna wanted to leave the Tardis after the Christmas special.
I think River is such a success because her story was very well planned from the end to the beginning.
29 December 2015 at 22:16 #49830Yes, I thought about that. If we want to be so down-to-earth it will always ends with: time can be rewritten/not always time can be rewritten (sorry, Steven Moffat had bad mood this time); I’m the last one of my kind/ but guess what, I’m not (this season we have a bigger budget); I would create another paradox and save you Amy and Rory from New York but you didn’t sign the contract for the next season, so I’m afraid you have to stay there, etc. 😉
29 December 2015 at 14:58 #49816@puroandson
Yes, but River had this, I don’t know how to call it, a wanted list with every Doctor’s face in a chronological order. So she had to know roughly his timeline up there in the library.
29 December 2015 at 12:30 #49811Of course, River couldn’t met any younger Doctor than 10. But if she knew all 13 Doctor’s faces how she could expected that they did Jim the Fish if she had already done that with 11 and she knew that 10 is his younger version?
29 December 2015 at 12:00 #49810I would expect that River as a part Time Lord should sense another Time Lord in her presence. I think it was 10 and at that point he was convinced that he’s the last of his kind, who said that if there where any living Time Lords he would sense them.
Oh, and River had also a picture of the War Doctor. How nice. Shame she hasn’t met the 8th. Or has she? That would be a funny couple.
12 has such a strong personality that he needs a companion with an even stronger personality like River or Donna. I don’t want another moaning Martha. And I want them to be more equal. Not a master and an apprentice again.
@puroandson
That was the point, in 2008 when we both disliked Donna.
Donna wouldn’t care that she knew very little about time travels and I like her so much for that. She was very modest and at the same time she had no complex. She didn’t try to be someone who she wasn’t 😉
28 December 2015 at 16:43 #49764@puroandson
Let’s say that’s not my kind of poetics. I remember River from the Big Bang, the Time of Angels and A Good Man Goes to War and I think I prefer her in a less festive mood (she was more like Mels than like River from the Library).
27 December 2015 at 22:45 #49746My first thought after 20-30 minutes was ‘I would prefer an episode with a proper christmas message taking place on Earth’. But then this a bit rubbish in my opinion story about a big red robot finished and the christmas special came to conclusion. A marvelous and beautiful conclusion. And it’s really worth seeing only for these few minutes. There’s something really special between the Doctor and River or even maybe between Capaldi and Kingston. I didn’t see that between him and Clara/Coleman.
My favourite christmas special still remains Christmas Invasion but this ending will be definitely high in my ranking.
23 December 2015 at 23:02 #49622And one more funny thing. Who brings you gifts?
23 December 2015 at 22:34 #49621How nice to see that even here there are fans of pierogi. I’m going to do some tommorow with my Grandad. That’s probably the most famous slavic dish.
I want to thank you for the fantastic season and fascinating discussions. You are such great people. Happy Christmas to all from Poland.
18 December 2015 at 23:28 #49506Oh gosh, I feel sick when I see two words: ‘hell’ and ‘bent’ 😉 Better tell me what the Doctor has in this lovely yellow box. Any ideas?
15 December 2015 at 10:49 #49441Thank you for sharing that piece. I’ve just spotted it. Every piece of news about the process of writing DW is extremely interesting.
14 December 2015 at 18:24 #4942513 December 2015 at 22:46 #49395@puroandson @juniperfish
I definitely agree with @puroandson Barthes? Derrida? Who else? Pierce and his concept of sign? My position is that Jenna Coleman was leaving the show so Clara had to do that either. One way or the other. They wanted to do that smoothly without grief and sense of guilt and without any impact on the future events. I think they did it well, not without question marks (if Clara doesn’t need to breath, does she need to eat? I think that’s not impossible for her, but it’s not my problem) but it works. And for me that story is finished.
12 December 2015 at 21:14 #49345That’s a bit harsh. I can agree with you that there’s too much melodrama in the two last seasons and that Death in Heaven was grim and creepy (too creepy for my taste) but you know, it’s a matter of taste. You said that for you The Day of the Doctor was brilliant. For me it was mostly rubbish 😎 and Hell bent was brilliant. I expected the full reset and had to wait for it two seasons but I got it. Doctor Who has fans all over the world, and you can’t expect that its creators will always satisfy your taste. These people do amazing job so it’s really ungratefull to speak in a such manner about one of the most brilliant tv series of all time. I also don’t find this season very illuminating but I love the character of Doctor and I would never tell that watching Doctor Who is a waste of time. But I’m a fan, not a random watcher.
And I admire the people from this forum because with their brilliant theories they can change even the worst and the silliest episode into a big mystery worth solving (at least here).

My beloved Lem’s books are Solaris and The Star Diaries. The last one is very, very funny but also deeply political.
10 December 2015 at 15:17 #49231@bluesqueakpip @puroandson
I have played a tree in a school play. I wanted to take a part in it but I was to shy to ask for a more ambitious role so I was happy being an evergreen tree. And I was on a stage! But of course I was much younger than Son of Puro 🙂
8 December 2015 at 18:14 #49077Without unnecessary words that was the perfect ending.
8 December 2015 at 17:55 #49076@arbutus @bluesqueakpip @puroandson
Thank you for your kind and wise replies. For the last few days I’ve been thinking very intensely about the question of Doctor Who and politics. I know that every episode has its more or less correct interpretation. Thank you for pointing me out what is the correct interpretation of the Zygon Inversion. But even that, I don’t have to like it. I don’t have to appreciate it. We come from many different countries and probalby have different experiences. And the Zygon Inversion is not the answer for my fear, grief, anger or helplessness. So I think I was correct in my opinion about this episode. It LOOKS TO ME shallow, naive or silly. But thankfully my opinion is not a rule and it can change.
As I’m not from the British Isles and my knowledge about the Nothern Ireland happenings are limited I’m not going to discuss them because I just don’t feel entilted to do that. But that’s another difference between us. Nothern Ireland is not a reference to me.4 December 2015 at 00:39 #48602I don’t think the whole episode is shallow, naive or silly. I’m fully aware that it brings up a very serious and urgent problem and I partly agree with its message. I still find the Doctor’s speech very moving and for me it sounded as he was not speaking about the Time War but the Second World War. That people from the western world know exactly how it is to fight for the right to live, for dignity and for freedom. But it’s naive to think or (show) that a beautiful and moving speech is the solution for all humanity problems. It’s not. CNN broadcasted an interview with the sister of one of the Paris attacker and she said that the family knew that her brother was becoming more and more radical. They asked for help but they didn’t get it. I know that it can be only an excuse but if it’s not that’s the real problem. And you will not solve it with an elevated speech. And now, imagine that one of the Paris attacker, the brain of the group escapes, changes his mind and says: From now on I’ll be a peaceful and loving person. And people say to him: We forgive you. Go and enjoy your life…
I think Zygons who live their lifes and do no harm to the others don’t need forgivness. They don’t need to be forgiven of who they are.
But I of course accept and respect that your opinion is different.
Politics, what else?
3 December 2015 at 20:53 #48589I liked seeing those political undertones. So maybe this is a opportunity to reinforce that lesson.
Personally I’m not sure about these political undertones. After “the Paris tantrum” the conclusion of the Zygon Inversion looks to me shallow, naive and silly.
3 December 2015 at 11:35 #48572@jimthefish @tardigrade
It’s definitely the lighting. The coat looks dark blue but it still has the dark red velvet glow.
3 December 2015 at 00:07 #48543I made four attempts to watch Andriej Tarkowski’s Solaris and I failed every time. I can’t agree with his vision of the future.
2 December 2015 at 21:15 #48535@puroandson
I’ve moved our conversation here because I feel it’s a bit off topic.
In case of Beethoven, I don’t want to offend anyone, but for me it’s shallow to think that if something is popular it means that it’s cliché and for the mass audience (poor Handel, poor Vivaldi, poor Mozart, every genius is poor because is clichéd!) My favourite Beethoven’s symphony is Eroica but I don’t think it’s his best. I like to listening to Eroica when I’m reading or doing something on my computer but I can’t do that with the 5th! It’s too powerful.
The Mennonites concerto is a hell of music. Very, very American. It’s a cacophony of styles and traditions. There are very lyrical and classical parts and those moments when I wasn’s sure if I wasn’t listening to the music from The Magnificent Seven. I didn’t expected something like that after this slow, sad and dark intro. Very rich music and very eclectic with many references. Some piano parts are classical and some more jazzy. I prefer those classical parts. They are very beautifully written. You have a very, very good ear if you found Mennonite Concerto in the Heaven sent score.
One of my favourite piano concerts is Edward Grieg’s A minor and piano works is Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at the Exhibition. But I think piano is a very ungrateful instrument. Easy to play, hard to compose something really, really good.
Your knowledge about the stars totally amazed Young Puro! He wishes they’d teach astronomy in science.
If that’s true I’m very flattered but I’m sure you will see in a short time Young Puro that my knowledge is pretty basic. People these days don’t look at the sky. They don’t care about the beauty of the stars. We have this constant Las Vegas in our cities. But when the sky is clear I like to watch how Orion shines above my house. I’m happy that you, too are a stargazer.
I do find your scientific posts very interesting and entertaining.
2 December 2015 at 13:09 #48517Your posts about how fast different materials decay are brilliant. I read your small lecture yesterday when I was going home.
2 December 2015 at 09:06 #48501@tardigrade @puroandson
Whoever set up the Doctor’s “personal torture chamber” knew him intimately.
Theu knew him well but not intimately. They should know that Doctor never gives up.
1 December 2015 at 10:36 #48414@puroandson
Do you remember our conversation about the 5th symphony? Do you remember what did I say and what did you say? How did you know that?! How could you guess that?! The wall! You are amazing!
Thanks for that recommendation. I’ll try to listen to that concert today and I’ll tell you if I like it or not.
1 December 2015 at 08:45 #48409It seems that we have the title of the next Christmas special and a new pic!

Christmas greetings, sweeties! We can reveal this year’s Christmas Special will be called ‘The Husbands of River Song’.

Thank you for that information. I actually checked the credits because I wanted to know if they listed Beethoven and Ben Foster’s name wasn’t very conspicuous. I mentioned Beethoven because it was main Doctor’s theme, it fitted perfectly and it sounded in my ears long after I finished watching. I didn’t recognised Liszt though.
30 November 2015 at 22:48 #48345Oh, and I forgot, I relisten the episode and I want to say that I love Murray Gold. There’s no Doctor Who without him but… Beethoven is Beethoven. This is one of the most beautiful episodes of the modern era. It’s both visually and musically very, very moving. I know that I’m echoing your opinions but what else I can say.
30 November 2015 at 22:23 #48342Oh, I dream about the day when I ‘ll be the one who’ll tell the others something new and interesting and amazing and true but I’m afraid that day has not yet come.
This painting looks like a mix of an old poster and an old carpet.
30 November 2015 at 16:56 #48322I think it can still be GMT. Doctor was teleported into his confession dial and at the time of the teleportation the dial was in London. So for the Doctor it was always the same time zone.
30 November 2015 at 16:01 #48318Yes, that right. At the beginning we don’t know what is wrong with the stars and we assume that there was some external interference. But in the end we find out that everything was fine with them. They changed their positions with the expansion of the universe. So every copy of the Doctor knew how the sky looked on Saturday 28 of November 2015 and how it differs from that scheme x years later. And he actually recognised that acknowledging that this is how the sky should look x years later. But he didn’t believe that’s true and didn’t understand how’s that possible. But he confirmed the authenticity of this world by admitting that he didn’t move more than a single light year from where he had been and he was at the same time zone. But it’s rubbish! The only star in the vicinity which can provide the light is the sun and the only place you can be at GMT is GMT zone. So he thought the sun works correctly but the stars don’t. But it doesn’t matter if the stars don’t work correctly if you are in an artificial world made exactly for you. I don’t know if this universe was true or it was a projection or a dial world. I like the notion that the stars are our ultimate guides and only them showed the Doctor the truth. The whole episode was beutifully made.
And one more thing. Oil painting doesn’t crack like that. The cracks are too big and have white edges. And no oil painting on linen canvas (I presume it was something like than) can survive even 7000 years.
30 November 2015 at 12:28 #48305I’ve been thinking how the Doctor knew in which time zone he was but he told us that at the beginning. He remained in the solar system because the nearest star is Alpha Centauri and it is at 4.37 ly and he was not more than a single light year from where he had been. Very clever. But if he was at the same time zone, it had to be Greenwich. So if his teleportation started at GMT at night and finished at GMT during the day it means that his teleportation took few hours or he did moved in time.
who’s been playing about with the stars? They’re all in the wrong places, for this time zone, anyway.
I didn’t understand how’s that possible that the stars changed their positions. No one can move the stars except the expansion of the universe which of course is recognisible only with time. But Doctor didn’t recognise that the time flew differently for the universe and for him. I think after all that time he spent at the castle he should understand what was the pattern of the stars movement. But even that that was bloody brilliant. Doctor Who plus physics. The best thing ever! 🙂
