One of the criticisms of Remembrance is that The Doctor commits genocide when he uses The Hand of Omega to destroy Skaro.
I may have to investigate Paradise Towers again… I only know of Brier’s extreme and non kosher hammery by repute. But by the sound if it there’s something interesting there. Does that explain Anita (Dobs…[Read more]

If I have understood the significance of her appearance in this episode, she represents a memory flash on the part of Abena, having been the Doctor who refused to take her, Abena, travelling as a companion. None of the others, including Gatwa Doc would have been aware of her.
The slight problem with this that I can see, is…[Read more]

He wasn’t prepared to accept the loss of control and subordinate status, but in defying the gods and planning revenge he lost his own power as a storyteller
Yes, this was my take also. It would have been nice to understand how and why it occurred but I assume the story runtime meant it had to be implied rather than shown (t…[Read more]

I’m reluctant to comment on the Ruth aspect because this story and indeed the whole season has intrigued so much.
But there seems to be so many plot holes surrounding the Ruth incarnation. Is RTD attempting a rewrite of Chris, or are they singing from the same hymn sheet?
So the image of Ruth was a shock; who actually saw that? T…[Read more]

Hi.
I haven’t been active for a number of years, but I’ve occasionally lurked, and am grateful to you all for keeping this site so informative and congenital.
I logged in specifically to thank @Mudlark for that wonderfully informative post. I enjoyed the episode a lot, but was toraĺly mystified by the Barber’s motivations and actions. Part of…[Read more]

A wonderfully informative reflection on the episode.
I was unaware of the connection to the story of Sheherazade, for example. Thank you.

Conrad:
As someone is going to say soon, ‘hurt people hurt people.’
As Morrissey might have had Anthony say to Cleopatra, ‘some b******ds are bigger than others.’
Who has always revelled in died-in-the-wool, invidious nasties. Some get a chance to save their reputation. Some are punished. Some apparently get away with it. And some, a…[Read more]

I’m still pondering the question of what could have turned the child Conrad into the thoroughly unpleasant and exploitative adult he became.
Yes, this aspect was a little underwritten, with just hints of abuse, and means we have to fill in the gaps. This is probably down to the episode run time. If Who was only on streaming, then it c…[Read more]

Re: your question of what made the small child Conrad into the exremely unpleasant and exploitative adult, a different question popped into my head. Why is no one on Earth (except the employees of UNIT) aware of the existence of the Doctor? We have been watching this fictional show for 60 years about a population that never seems to r…[Read more]

Hadn’t thought about the 50p aspect of the bootstrap. That is very odd. Surely The Doctor wasn’t compelled to do it because he thought it was a fixed point?
Similar or related to the briefcase star seed code in Joy to the World perhaps? Is The Doctor beginning to suspect what is happening? Cos let’s face it we only think we ha…[Read more]

He was introduced to Belinda when he encountered her and the Doctor on New Years Eve 2007, when he was a child
I am still trying to figure the timelines out here, so bear with me.
The Doc and Belinda meet a young Conrad in 2007, the Doc gives him the 50 pence piece.
Conrad then sees the Doc (with Ruby) in 2024
Conrad last sees the Doc…[Read more]

Yes you’re right. I got confused about the 2007 new year; I thought THAT was Ruby and The Doctor too. But Conrad (I meant ‘radical conman’ btw – typo) still seems to have put the events of Robot Revolution in motion with a dig at The Doctor which he decides to make BEFORE Anita Dobson peers in, jangling her keys. Bit weird. Boot strap…[Read more]

Belinda and the the Doctor experience a scrambled review of her life past and (potentially) future.
That’s an excellent point and not one I’d considered.
I suggest it may still point to Belinda being in some way special, given the dialogue I mentioned previously. What it does do, however, is to open up other solutions for her…[Read more]

I only just read your message above. So sorry to hear about your Christmas experience, and that of your elderly neighbour downstairs. Good to know that she is on the mend. Some intetesting points here. I tend to agree that the optics of a black Doc being “bad” would tend to rule it out. It would be interesting though to have the Doc turn to the dark side as it were. And it ties into the idea of the bi-generation splitting the Doc into two (this sounds a bit…[Read more]
