I much prefer paper books to ebooks in the same way that I prefer vinyl to mp3.
Old things, like old people and landscapes are much more interesting – you can see the effect time has had on them.
Field. Interesting idea. Also, Field is a computer programming term. Hmmmm.
6 May 2013 at 04:08 #7960Re: comics and their rekationship to the TV show. My initial research indicates that the comics work independently of TV but they have to send their scripts in for approval to the current prod team. Not sure who is responsible for that now but script editors have done that job in the past.
Terence Dicks had lots of problems with over violent comic adaptations apparently.
6 May 2013 at 03:59 #7959The Doc calls Clara “The Boss”. Some men use this expression about their wives (some even mean it). If the Doc is using that phrase in that sense then, Ipso Facto, Clara is River.
6 May 2013 at 02:56 #7957With apologies for my appalling typing.
6 May 2013 at 02:54 #7956Following on from @phaseshift‘s excellent suggestion , can I aslo recommend http://www.epubbud.com.
It’s free and has various DW Target books available for download. The Daleks (Doc 1), The Abominable Snowman (Doc 2), The Green Death (3) etc. There are only ten or so books but I thonl Docs1-7 are all reptesented. There are some Doc 8 books but non-canon I think.
So that’s your weekend sorted. đ

3 May 2013 at 11:50 #7660Thanks.for the info. I keep meaning to look into a VPN but will wait and see how international iplayer pans out.
3 May 2013 at 10:51 #7657Flower power Time Lords. I like it.
I wonder how long they are.in school for – must be decades.
Re: the Rani – I’m just trying to shoehorn in a sister for the Doc any way I can. It’s my “going against the grain” theory for this year. (Last year’s had little Amelia in the Spacesuit in TIA; just to give you an idea of my track record).
3 May 2013 at 10:44 #7656Not sure I’m buying this thing about the Doc not knowing his own age – the TL’s must have a way of tracking events linearly as well as in a timey-wimey way. If the Doc genuinely can’t work out his age, why does he keep on giving actual figures out?
But if Moffat doesn’t think the Doc’s age is a big deal then it’s less likely to be a big clue in show. But…Rule 0.
3 May 2013 at 04:56 #7650Is this audio available on t’internet?
3 May 2013 at 04:53 #7649I’d always presumed that’s what those old French toilets were for.
3 May 2013 at 04:43 #7648Some Timey-Wimey and Reality er Weality quotes on the movie Harvey, surprisingly enough:
3 May 2013 at 04:32 #76473 May 2013 at 04:27 #7646Pretty quiet on the night shift.
Nothing new to add to all the latest theories / hidden codes / anagrams so I might as well have a relaxing bath. D’oh! @scaryb where is it?
Oh well I guess I’ll have to get Edward out of his bag.
3 May 2013 at 04:22 #7645I’ve been doing some research into the Doc:s age:
http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/The_Doctor%27s_age
From Doc 4 eps, it would appear he was 236 when he first left Gallifrey, although this has been both reinforced and contradicted by Doc 11 eps.
In fact Doc 11’s age is all over the place which may mean lots or little. Moffat’s stance appears to be that the Doc has no way of knowing his own age. Hmmm.
Interestingly Doc 7 was the same age as The Rani – could they be twins?
2 May 2013 at 12:17 #75852 May 2013 at 12:04 #7582Her Gran? She might never have met her, I suppose and ‘lost’ is a euphemism for ‘died’. If so though, what about Granddad? No mention of losing him I guess. Hmmm.
2 May 2013 at 02:33 #7533Looks like you are on the night shift with a bunch of us Aussie dwellers. We also have people in the US and Denmark, as well as all over the UK. Welcome.
2 May 2013 at 02:23 #7532@elwingt‘s
Glad you feel comfortable enough on here to post but you are welcome to just lurk. The only compulsory thing here seems to be bonkers theories. đ
2 May 2013 at 02:16 #7529Just watched the Prequel again – some really nice exchanges between the Doc and young Clara.
Someone I know raised an interesting point about it. In the very first few seconds there is a shot of two young children running across screen and then later on Clara’s mum (Ellie) is seen in the background talking to a woman. It was suggested that the two children are a young Rose and Mickey and the other woman is Jackie Tyler. Â They certainly look similar.
Not sure if there are any implications to this – I was trying to remember if Clara still lived in Lancashire at that point, which would pooh-pooh the whole idea.
2 May 2013 at 00:37 #7528Fanboy Dalek: Don’t-like-8
Just one more each now, just to be fair.
A meme worthy of it’s own list I think.
2 May 2013 at 00:02 #7524and feel like Iâve dropped a tab of acid
and feel like I’ve dropped a tab of acid, apparently…
I actually can’t remember the provenance of the Doc being 300 y.o when he left Gallifrey for the first time. I’ve dusted it down from somewhere but am quite prepared to be wrong. Either way, the current Doc does appear to be 1200 y.o now.
All that talk from Matt and Clara was just that…nothing in the show (yet). Interesting about the Dalek link – could just be the prod team messing with our minds (again).
This is a nice – a 50 year (our time) / 900 year (Doc’s time) timeloop / paradox. A few issues to be resolved though, but nothing that Moffat couldn’t do I’m sure.
What if Doc 11 alters Doc 1’s timeline (eg by giving him the current Tardis instead of the original one) – that would rewrite Doc’ 2-8, perhaps only slightly.
I think Moffat is keen on rationalising the anomalies in the Classic series (eg the Unit dating conundrum, Doc 3 saying he was 1000’s of years old, Doc 8 claiming to be half human and the 13 regen rule) and may use the 50th as a way of doing that. Somehow.
1 May 2013 at 13:08 #7408I also think that the changes to the TARDIS interior are just to set up a gag for Tennant in the Anniversary Special:
âYouâve been redecorating I see. I donât like it.âThat would be splendid – and a nice nod to the past but….
The Tardis has already changed since Tennant’s doc – in TEH. Therefore, it wouldn’t need to change again for your joke to be spoken.
I’ve previously posted about this on here, or the G, or maybe I imagined it, or it’s been re-written, It’s getting late here. Anyway. The latest Tardis redesign has not been referenced in-show at all, which makes me think it is a huge clue hidden in plain sight. Similarly with the Doc saying he was now 1200 years old (cf 1102 and 900 in previous eps); this was also obliquely referred to last week when he said he’d been piloting the Tardis for 900 years – given he was 300 when he first ran away from Gallifrey, it returns us to 1200 as his age again.
Moffat says a lot of things about the show which turn out to be, well, exaggeration, but he has said there is a clue hidden in plain sight. I think this might be it.
I’m convinced this will prove to be significant, just not sure how / why. Any ideas?30 April 2013 at 11:52 #725430 April 2013 at 10:10 #7243The bath has already arrived – I’ve lent it to @scaryb over On the Sofa – it’s to contain the legion of fish that inhabit that locale.
Fortescue is still labelling the bricks of WhoHar hall, ahead of the dismantling. I think he’s been slacking off – going down the Baker’s Scarf for a few pints is my guess. Although he’s only 8, he can look much older as he has some remarkable facial hair – I put it down to all coal dust in the chimneys.
And thanks for the kind words. It can be a bit…isolating here.
30 April 2013 at 09:44 #7237And here IÂ am, 50 years later, still 11 years old every time I watch it.
It’s fabulous when something takes you back like that. I have a similar experience every time I take amyl-nitrate.
30 April 2013 at 09:40 #7235@bluesqueakpip Post #7209
Even when childless, youâre often passing on your skills, knowledge and passions to the next generation.
What a great thing to post. The world is richer for it.
30 April 2013 at 09:36 #7233@haveyoufedthefish Post #7125
The new control room bothers me – alot. There has been zero explanation of it in show and I can’t come up with a reason why it would just change. I think it’s another supermassive black clue that is hidden in plain sight. That, and the doc saying he is now 1200 (cf 1103 in TIA and about 900 in the previous series), makes me think it is a different Tardis or the same one perhaps but 97 years older.
The implications of this could be many, or none.
My other theory is that all the Docs’ stories (again Doc 2-8) have taken place within the Tardis itself.
30 April 2013 at 09:17 #7232@bluesqueakpip @juniperfish @Shazzbot @scaryb et al
Some good ones in there. And it’s probably the most interesting things about the Daleks since, well er, Dalek.
Dear Mr. Moffat,
If you’re looking for a new direction for the Doctor’s oldest enemy, perhaps you would consider heading over to http://www.thedoctorwhoforum.com
We really need @phaseshift ‘s marketing / whoring skills here.
Oh, and one more: Randy Dalek: “Forn-i-cate”
(there’s a variation on this for the Randy, lonely Dalek but I’ll let you fill in the blank)
Oh, oh, one more. @jimthefish Dalek: “Cog-i-tate”
Really must stop. No really.
29 April 2013 at 11:34 #7140Itâs about that time, I think, for a little recap on all the bonkers theories, mad ramblings and general lunacy that thankfully occurs in this special place.
To my mind there are three disparate threads, which may be loosely connected. We are still looking for the Unifying Theory though:
Clara
1a. Clara is the Doctorâs granddaughter, Susan.
1b. Clara is the next regen of the Doctor.
1c. Clara is Idris.
1d. Clara has been scattered by the Tardis explosion (see below) â not known if / why she was on board in the first place.
1e. Clara is a trap sent by the Daleks or possibly the Time Lords to destroy the Doctor in revenge for the Time Lock.
1f. Clara is a construct of the Doctor sent to save himself as he loses his memories.
1g. Clara is a computer virus sent to help the Doctor.
1h. Clara is a computer virus sent to kill the Doctor.
1i. Clara is a Dalek.
1j. Clara is the Doctorâs daughter (or possibly aka Jenny), hidden on Earth.
1k. Clara is the Doctorâs great granddaughter.
1l. Clara is the Doctorâs sister.Dark Doctor
2a. The Doctor is becoming darker due to Dalekisation after exposure to the nanobots in AotD
2b. The Doctor is losing his memories due to exposure to the GI in The Snowmen / BoSJ.
2c. The Doctor is becoming darker because, well, thatâs who he is.
2d. The Doctor is a criminal on the run.
2e. The Doctor is ashamed of something he has done in the past and even saying his actual name will somehow cause that something to be revealed.
2f. The Doctorâs name will cause some big event to occur and therefore should never be spoken.
2g. The 1st Doctor constructed the Time Lock and Docs 2-8 are constructs to throw his enemies off the scent.
2h. The Doctor is in a lunatic asylum and undergoing therapy.
2i. The Doctor is in the Time Lord matrix.
2j. The Doctor killed JFK, or something.
Tardis
3a. The Tardis explodes in tBB due to a paradox â River is inside the Tardis and one parent is dead and the other is plastic.
3b. The Tardis explodes in tBB due to some kind of interference from the Silence.
3c. The Tardis in tEH is exploding after coming into contact with the Tardis in tBB.
3d. Three Tardii â from tEH, tBB and one other (possibly Tenâs Tardis on the way back from dropping Rose and 10.5 in the alt universe) collide and explode.
3e. The Tardis is the Time Lock and the Time War is contained within it.Thatâs all I have. Iâm sure I can rely on you good people to add on anything Iâve missed off and have a superbly bonkers theory to tie it all in.
Iâm going with 1g, 2g and 3e. For now.29 April 2013 at 04:41 #7121When they rebooted the Daleks, I was praying one of them would be pink and a bit camp (Re-dec-or-ate(, just to see the reaction.
29 April 2013 at 04:38 #7119I think the Doc is obviously more left wing when he wears his red bow-tie, that’s right isn’t it @juniperfish?
29 April 2013 at 03:52 #7118Not dealt with in any detail I think.
Time for a summary of theories I would say.
29 April 2013 at 03:47 #7117It’s a different Tardis.
29 April 2013 at 00:57 #7110There was one poster on there who used to unfavourably review each ep and then always end the post with “it was much better when the gays were in charge”.
29 April 2013 at 00:20 #7108Tend to agree – my thoughts turned to Castrovalva too. I’m rationalising it by assuming “infinite” is figurative not literal, a bit like when someone says “everybody”.
The Eye of Harmony is not such a big issue for me – the Doc could have moved it as part of the Time Lock – this works well with my earlier post that the Tardis is the time lock.
28 April 2013 at 23:36 #7104I had similar thoughts about time leaking both ways. Maybe that’s all it is but I do wonder if it will be revisited.
28 April 2013 at 23:26 #7103Posted this on JttCotT but should be here really:
Just posted this on the G:
What if it was the 1st Doctor that escaped the Time War and engineered the Time Lock and therefore all subsequent Doctors (up to and including the 8th) are merely constructs designed to throw his enemies off the scent of who / where / when he really is.
Has Moffat got the cajones to do that?
28 April 2013 at 23:24 #7102Just posted this on the G:

28 April 2013 at 22:07 #7096Realising the similarity with part of @haveyoufedthefish ‘s posts. CHECK.
Three further points.
Why couldn’t Clara touch the other Doctor? The one who seemed suspended and not in this world / time stream?
I also thought the cloth was perhaps parchment – a leaf out of the Time War book. A leaf with the Doc’s name on it. A leaf containing all future possibilities. Oh well.
If the Tardis is infinite, maybe it contains more than we imagine. Like Gallifrey. Or perhaps the Tardis is the Time Lock, keeping the war isolated from the rest of the universe. But what happens to all that when the Tardis explodes?
28 April 2013 at 22:03 #7095@juniperfish / Juniperchips
Ah ha! There you are
@holymackerel
 â all hail Omega-Fish etc. đShouldn’t that be Omega3-fish? đ
28 April 2013 at 13:37 #7038Grreat visuals – loved the library, I would just stay in there for ever. CHECK.
Good performances from the mains. CHECK.
 Some snappy dialogue. CHECK
Nice refs. to previous Docs, assistants and episodes. CHECK
But something off about the ep. for me. Not sure what. I am…conflicted.
One thing I can out my finger on as strange: why did the Doc let Clara – someone who he is still so unsure about – fly the Tardis, and with the defences down? If it was supposed to be a test, it seems reckless in the extreme.
27 April 2013 at 07:06 #6815Happy to donate said bath – free, gratis and for nothing. The problem – at this late stage in proceedings – is the time it takes to fill the bloomin thing.
27 April 2013 at 06:58 #6813Funnily enough, virtually the first thing I said was “well that’s not much like the 1970’s”. I put it down to the set / wardrobe designers.
I think candles were used during the power outages – stuck to a small saucer though. Not quite a grand as a candlarbra. Maybe @chickenelly can ask her grandmother about it.
27 April 2013 at 06:47 #6812@phileasf. Your idea about the Daleks hacking the Doc right back would.work very well as an explanation for Clara – she’s a Dalek construct trying to infiltrate the Doc. Maybe the first two Clara’s were early versions of the Dalek virus that failed (died).
Need to consider this further.
27 April 2013 at 06:42 #6811Great post on AotD. Lots to mull over.
I think it was my post – regarding the direction when Oswin first realised she was a Dalek.
I’ve said elsewhere that Moffat tends to set things up in the first ep of a run, so the Dalekisation of the Doc sans bracelet would make alot of sense as a theory as to why he’s acting like he is. It remains my favourite to date. How Clara fits in to all this still needs some work IMHO.
26 April 2013 at 12:32 #6722We’ll take up @scaryb ‘s suggestion but all you fishy types have to take the “fish” out of your names and replace it with, oh I don’t know, say “chips”. Seems fair don’t you think?
26 April 2013 at 12:28 #6721But this would be actual brother-sister. I’ve zero evidence for this apart from the way the Doc and Clara interacted (at least initially). It was all snappy comebacks and attempts at oneupmanship.
Probably won’t happen but you can bet I’ll pounce on any vague notion of a hint that supports it đ26 April 2013 at 12:13 #6718 -
