Ahem, but to keep things strictly on topic, I agree with @blenkinsopthebrave. It’s not that I’m not a fan of the bonkerising, but I think there is plenty of scope for it within series, while allowing the Christmas special to stand alone, a bit anyway.

Oh @lisa, say it ain’t so about the dreamy dreaming dreamers. I can see one good ‘And it was all a dream’ episode, but yeah the dream patches are too big a deal, unless there is a simple explanation like the sedative in them is derived from dream crabs, although it is strongly implied they are the stuff of legend, even for the Doctor. Anyway, I want to see them run into a bookshop and pick up two copies of the same book at least once in series 9!

@dimchall, I like the reasoning re the dream architecture, and yes the ‘bigger on the inside’ thing does seem to imply that Santa specifically represents the Doctor, but I guess that from what @macphisto96 and others have said the actual dream architecture is Shona’s (bang goes my theory) but the fact that Alien was on her DVD list… She surely didn’t needed that to inform her dream as the dream crabs already look like facehuggers, so.. do they not actually look like that…?

Totally agree with the “Just going to have a sulk by this handy volcano, what’s that under this stone here, looks like a big spider, wonder if this planet is a giant egg.. oh hai Santa.” However I’ll need to go back and watch the DiH coda obsessively till I am as sure as I can be of the timing of the last few events. Not sure I want the drama to go back or forward now than that, but I am starting to come round to the unfashionable belief that Moff knows best.

The dreamer trying to save the other dreamers is just the Doctor, right? Able to draw everyone one out of their individual dreams into a dark, isolated place where they can get on with being analytical and scared, featuring Santa as a constant background alarm. Nice!

I know Shona was great but a perfume company account manager who can theorise under pressure (perhaps with a wee bit of a telepathic link to help) is surely interesting…

Greetings all, loved the festive Daleks, and the Bottom clip!

Great time of year for continuing the Who education; watched half of the classic Silurians, Day and Time of, plus Christmas Carol which was fabulous. Now just need to negotiate other people’s tv preferences on Christmas day:  may play trump card and get wee one to announce that she’d just LOVE to see Doctor Who…

I think Christmas will establish that at least one alien has a Santa! And as for encouraging the next generation, there will be a wee delivery from the Doctor, via the BBC shop. I must admit, I’m absolutely loving it. I know you shouldn’t live through your kids, but man, this is fun!

@pedant, is that what it’s like inside the Doctors head? Up to and including the music, which according to Clara, he hears when he comes out with rubbish? 😀 The white noise, while only white noise, makes me think of ‘The Division Bell.’

@dreamerofgallifrey, hi Alannah, on the Chris Addison point, I’m inclined to disagree just a touch. They already know a Sherlock/Doctor Who crossover probably wouldn’t be as good as we think, I really think for all but the utterly uninitiated, that would be too much The Thick of it/Doctor Who cross over, and for me, they need separate pocket universes, with no more that 2-5% bleed across from one to the other being sufficient.

Which is to say, I think they have to tone about perfect right now 🙂

@arbutus, I still don’t think you can beat the Islays for sheer sniffing complexity. Had a wonderful holiday there this year, Mr lefty visited the Bruichladdich (or ‘laddie) and we were randomly plied with the ‘laddie gin at our campsite by the wife of the marketing director. It was just that kind of place. For once, that fortnight, all the perfect white houses stood against brilliant blue sky, and I swear you could taste the angels share in the air. Living and working  in a central belt new town, you forget there is magic, sometimes 🙂

Also, Mediaeval music! Adding to my impression that the community here is full of tremendously interesting people with deeper passions than me!

@purofilion, the nice malts must be sniffed, although I will admit I don’t get closer than that very often, being more of a Pinot Grigio/Chablis gal, but I will make an exception.

Relatively new to the forum, I do this thing where I forget to do good stuff, then get all surprised in middle age to discover that I do like Queen, or Pink Floyd, or Doctor Who, after thinking for years that life was too short to wade through the back catalogue.

I was looking to get what I thought were fair, thoughtful and knowledgeable opinions on series new and old, so when I got here, I just didn’t leave again, particularly after experiencing a few other sites…. Very nice place you have here

Oh, well, we’ll have to YouTube it and settle for the Daleks and the Mind robber. Looked like BBC 3 was also doing reruns (spotted the Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe) but nothing more. Hope I can catch some more.

Hi All, been lurking for a bit, you all seem thoroughly lovely and more like it than any other Who place, so I’d just like to pop up and say hello, actual Barbara (parents were ’60s kids) Scot currently in actual Scotland, actually haven’t watched much after the gap until the child reached an age where we thought it would be nice to watch something as a family and pass on the hiding behind the sofa baton, coinciding with new 12 regeneration, and promptly fell into a Doctor Who shaped hole.  Currently on a Tennant/Smith binge, slowly realising will have to go back and rewatch everything.
