That was definitely better than the previews suggested – another great episode this series.

I must admit that I wondered whether the mummy was going to turn out to be Danny – even in the Doctor Who Extra you never got to see who the actor actually was. Not to be, but it was an quirky thought at the time.

Also, having watched the full version of  ‘Don’t stop me now’, including scenes from future episodes, does the song refer to Clara herself – she’s ‘having such a good time, I don’t want to stop at all’?

Oh, and jelly baby cigarette case? Excellent!

Thought I’d better say a ‘hello’ on here as it’s been a while!

I hummed and hawed about going to the pictures this time as I’d had a good time for the 50th in a packed house and spent the night in the Travelodge next door (I live in a small town with no cinema). When I first looked at booking I was pleased that Vue was using a bigger auditorium but then I saw there weren’t many people going. When I saw that the Travelodge was charging over £80 for a night (£29 in November!), I nearly didn’t go, but then decided to rent a car for the weekend (£60) as it’s only the second time in nearly 51 years that I’ve been able to watch the programme on a large screen.

There were probably about 100 of us – about 1/4 full – ranging from small children to those of us in their mid-50s and I’d say that the reaction was very positive. Sadly I didn’t see anyone in costume this time round, but I’m sure Crombies will be selling pretty fast before too long!

Looking forward to some more insane theorising!

Well, just got back from the pictures (as we old’uns call the cinema) and I managed to survive the hype and had a great time. There were some genuine laugh-out moments, the depiction of The Half Face man was excellent, the skin airship genuinely creepy, the titular ‘deep breath’ good, and the ending intriguing. Yes, it would have been good to see a few better shots of The Doctor on the horse and up the tree, but maybe Peter Capaldi can’t ride or TPTB didn’t want him riding in the dark on wet cobbled streets?

We were treated to a short introduction by Strax and a 50 minute Q&A live from Leicester Square with PC, JC and SM, which was fun and included the snippet that the old tramp was played by Brian Miller, who was married to Elisabeth Sladen.

The only bum note as far as I was concerned was the advert for Sky Movies which preceded the whole event, which was a bit off to me.

As for Peter Capaldi as The Doctor – excellent! He certainly seems to have hit the ground running, and the much-touted ‘otherness’ seems to be working well so far. Roll on ‘Into the Dalek’.

I know we’ve had the Name, Day and Time of the Doctor this year, but it also must be the Time of the Moff – he’s presided over the frankly amazing 50th Celebrations, writing the world record-holding drama simulcast, 3 regeneration scenes, seen the return of Tom Baker to DW, cast a new Doctor in Peter Capaldi and is just about to release to the world (along with the almost-as-prolific Mark Gatiss) the secret of Sherlock Holmes’ non-death.

I wonder if so many people’s inner geek has been massaged so much in such a short a space of time (and space!) before.

Well, that was rather splendid, and a great sendoff for Matt Smith, who is now definitely my favourite Doctor – although at least I still shave my head 😉

So much answered, great cameos from the past, and they obviously held some of the budget from TDotD.

One minor thought – was Handles channelling K9 and/or Mr Smith?

Oh, and the ARSE has already started on the Graun…

A bit like @arkleseizure I’ve been reading like mad of late but not posting. I also was a bit taken with the tick box under the login section – “Remember me”. Very Clara-esque, although it’s not unique to this site 😉

Anywho (sorry, can’t resist saying it), I hope everyone has a great Day and no doubt this site will go into meltdown again at 8.30 pm GMT, although, unlike with TDotD, those outside the UK seem to have to wait a bit longer.

That wooden Cyberman is pretty amazing. Even if it isn’t real wood but some sort of resin (I’m no expert), it still must be one of the best props in the series. The bit in the middle of its chest isn’t wood though, so the Sonic might have some use 😉

And from the broadcast times, it looks as if TTotD might have a pretty huge audience worldwide too.

I worked for 10 years with teens like this in Florida – I now work with Adults in the North East of England, so have no idea – are British teens like this now too? Is that a good thing? Or have I just lost touch with my inner teen 😀

Not sure when it’s on elsewhere, although I’d imagine it’s on BBC America on the same day.

As someone who deals with people for a living this site seems like a rather extended family. We’ve come together for Christmas and it’s now the Boxing Day blues at times. Grandad is in the corner with his pipe and slippers muttering, while the young ‘uns are playing with their new toys. And I’m not naming names…

The build-up to the 50th anniversary was intense, fun, bonkers in the expectation of the big day(s), immediately followed by another surge after The Day of the Doctor. I think all that sugar has gone to our collective heads.

Honestly, though, I don’t think that it’s all bad. Most of the time it’s remarkably even-tempered with many sparks of brilliance and some times, when nothing much is happening in tv-land, we do get bored and boring.

Chin up everyone, Christmas is coming (again), and so is the new incarnation of our own Santa.

Thanks everyone and I’ll go back to my corner with my pipe and slippers…

Pity we can’t use Madame Vastra’s scented candles to meet more properly – although I’m not sure if the alternative – getting bashed on the head with a Glaswegian shovel would be too welcome!

Not sure if anyone’s mentioned it yet, but PC is the first Oscar winner as The Doctor, which leads me on to another thought – as he won for directing and writing, I wonder whether he’s two or three for the price of one – anyone else think he’ll be writing and/or directing any episodes? Perhaps not in his first year, but later on…

Ah, the music – I have a 1990s tv with no added sound system, and yet I still can’t see the problem that some have with it! I am The Doctor is one of my favourite plays on Spotify!

And, is it time yet to think about costume for Twelve? The latest tweed-and-bow-tie combo are probably among the best outfits in 50 years (and, yes, that pic of me was taken in 1958!)

Long time (well long for this forum!) lurker, blah, blah…

I’ve been wondering about the female Doctor idea and wasn’t overly keen at first, but I’ve just re-watched Joanna Lumley in the Comic Relief special and, even skipping over the comedic value of the regeneration, I think it could work.

My only wish is that it is a good actor and not just stunt casting.

A few suggestions – Alice Krige, Samuel West, Rory Kinnear, Tamsin Greig. Sadly Richard E Grant has probably missed the boat 🙁

Of course, just to show the way my mind is particularly warped, I enjoyed the suggestions in today’s Telegraph concerning the new HBO version of I, Claudius – particularly the idea that a role should be found for Brian Blessed…
