I’ve told all my friends that I’ve gone into mourning for the loss of Peter Capaldi. *sighs*

Watched one of the last interviews in New York. Just before the end, they showed a video of people of both sexes, saying how much HE meant to them. All bar one (I think), were young women and men.

I was under the impression that it was that age group (especially the females) that wanted a female Doctor and PC hadn’t been popular?

Mmm. Although a small cross section all over the world, it put the lie to that one.

He made a lovely goodbye speech, got  a standing ovation (AGAIN) and I’m sure he was on the brink of weeping as he left the stage. I could be wrong however.

IMO, the reason is that it isn’t mediocre but so much better than that, that the “lows” can’t hold the rest down.  And I think that Moffat-Capaldi-and-all achieved so much *despite* the lapses and flat bits etc. that it’s the intimations of depth that grab you even in stories that are spinning out of control.

I’m very curious to see how people look back on this particular DW period from a few years down the line.  I think it’s going to be interesting — but maybe that’s because I can’t help anticipating much more conventional, if more even, work with Chibnall at the helm (judging by my own reactions to other Chibnall work).

@janetteb:   I said the same when Ecclestone was leaving, and when Tennant was going, and when Matt Smith moved on. It is always hard to let go and I would like every one of the AG Doctors to have done at least one more series.

You see, I didn’t. although I really liked the first three, I didn’t mind them moving on because I was curious.

This is why I cannot understand why I am so gutted about PC leaving and am not a bit curious.

As series go, my marks would be series 8.  8/10.  Series 9.  8/10 (the girl who died and lived prevented a higher  score)

I hated Heaven Sent. Words cannot express how awful it is to have a Doctor that I didn’t like as the sole character for an entire bloody episode. It was dreadful. Agonising. I only watched it (a week late) because online chatter made me realise I’d missed a lot of plot points.

Well, there you are, I rest my case. You can’t help how you feel can you.

You are, of course, quite right in theory.

Unfortuantely I feel that shall never come to terms with a female Doctor, and wonder just how many Whovians truly *like* the idea, or aren’t outspoken enough to say that they don’t.

Jodie Whittaker is an average actress at best – in my opinion – I have not liked her in anything I have seen her in. There are two problems straight away, for me at least.

Naturally I shall watch the first two episodes, or how can I give an opinion.

As for Peter Capaldi never quite making it for you, I must disagree, he was best so far, and the writing, in most cases, superb. As River says, He was MY Doctor.

For me, the original idea of Doctor who, has been turned upside down.

As for a good companion helping, true, but then Peter Capaldi didn’t need one in Heaven Sent did he.

I understand what you say ichi. At 79 I feel much the same as you. Every year is a new adventure, a new experience waiting in the wings. Life never really stands still, and if you look hard, there is always something to look forward to.

Not self indulgent, thoughtful, and honest. I don’t believe that anyone truly loses  who they are, their basic character- for better or worse.

As for my Doctor, I’d rather he didn’t give up but simply left, and let her get on with it. *shudder*

As I – wishful thinker that I am- said, he doesn’t have to regenerate, Mr. Hartnell can instead. Had I been writng the finale, that’s what I’d have written.

Unfortuantely, things rarely work out the way you’d like them to.

Yep, I moved into a church army hospital (they don’t deserve capital letters) and whilst there I looked for a job and

BS. Obviouosy don’t try to move out until you have both.

I’ve heard how hard it is to get a job these days, even for people with Uni degrees, so please believe that I’m not being flippant or uncaring.

Of course times are different nowadays. Jobs were easier to find, especially as you gathered experience. Being Dental Nurse gave me a lot of scope.

My point- and I hope that @missrori realises this – is that things can’t happen unless you make them happen.

I lived with an impossibe mother too. Fortunately not only was I a rebel, I was also bloody minded (still am) and this helped me a lot.

Taking that first step would be overwhelming, I can see and understand that, but if you do nothing what then?

Our daughter tried every factory in an industrieal area and got a job in the second one. They hadn’t advertised.

The first step is the hardest.

What a twerp, hadn’t he heard of parental love? I thought he was slefish.

Plus, the Doctor would, I feel,  be glad for her. He knows the fascination and adiction of travelling through time and space- especially time.

As you say, pity no one can let him know about Missy.

My bonkers theory was based on the continual “I will not change!” The appearance of the first Doctor and the devious whims of Steven Moffat.

Add to them, the fact that every Doctor regeneration, shows him wearing the same clothes as the previous Doctor.

JD is not, she is wearing a cloak. PC isn’t wearing a cloak, but first Doctor is.

However, time will  tell and I’m probably completely wrong.

@missrori: Well, I agree with your mother about JD, but nothing else. All I can offer, and it isn’t easy, is stick to what your gut tells you. Don’t listen to anyone else, just you sense of what is right. This is what I do and it helps.

Also, I agree 100% with thane. Bloody hard to do, but go for it. No dipping of toes in the water, just jump.

When I was 16 I left home and lived in a hostel for a while, then found a bed sitter and a job all on the same day.

Lucky you say? N0, I worked at it.

I watched the final episode of the Doctor Who – The Doctor Falls – again last night (it’s on our recorder still). I really shouldn’t because I become quite upset.. Why oh why did Mr C have to give in his notice!

Just a thought, but what if  instead of  the twelth Doctor regenerating, the first Doctor does, and becomes her. Meanwhile, PC buzzes off in the first Doctor’s Tardis unchanged?

We decided to re-watch Prime Suspect (Helen Mirren) the ther evening. Imagine our surprise when Peter Capaldi

took part as a Transvestite!  He looked wonderful, very attractive, but his nose was wrong.  No bump.

This actor is able to be completely different in every role he plays

There isn’t a thread for radio, so I’ll use this for now.

Have any of you dear people ever heard of a radio show called “AROUND THE HORNE?” It was aired between 65-68 and one of the funniest, politically incorrect shows I’ve heard. How the BBC got a away with it is a mystery.

Also, Mark Gatiss is narrating another  series of The Man in Black, on Radio 4 Extra , which I listen to a lot.

The amount of excellent stories and plays, fact and fiction are an Aladdin’s cave for me. How about you?
