You don’t obviously have to….But I used to say “watch it in order if only to see that actually it gets better, at least that’s what I was told by people close to me.” I made some pretty silly mistakes, I had no erm, noises for Buffy & …… love scene, I was all about the sense & feeling so knowing now what I should’ve known then but on the other hand some of us view things differently, even from when we first saw it & how we see things now.”

erm, erm, what, what? WHAT???

I have been trying for a very long time to locate The Getting of Wisdom. The book is good but I’m mentioning the film as it seemed to make more of an impact? It’s not that great a film. The music, (an improvisation) the young & arrogant talented but nasty little pianist plays is totally sh** but….OK. maybe not shitty to everyone but for years I simply couldn’t find it. I heard an interview with John Waters only yesterday & immediately thought “that damn movie & his damned character” which proves what a boorish woman I really am! Still, The Getting of Wisdom! 🙂

It’s original title, I found out in 1988,  was simply “Time”

As for ‘The Getting of Wisdom” I feel like adding “my ass” to this? Who ‘got’ the wisdom in the end? The slightly nasty over-romanticised pianist? Possibly. Mainly because she left ‘the colonial thinking behind’ & now London had her! In all the ways that “had” is meant, btw. But they removed most of that for ‘G’ reasons…. I kinda liked Pete’s Picnic at Hanging Rock, though.

My advice is “please don’t watch seasons 1-5 after season 6.” Seriously. I think Thane said the same -& typing for me yesterday.

I disagree that it’s a “jump -in” point @bluesqueakpip. And yes, SMG is on the cover of a show in which she stars/starred. Hell, Season 7 let out covers of Leo in The West Wing years ago when they released season 7’s ‘First 12 episodes’ including pix of the Dem candidate in full face format when we knew nothing of the actual result. Most people looked away from the target 🙂

I think the issue is to do with how season 1 BtVS had consequences for season 6. Like Season 2 did for S6. And possibly S3 did for S6 etc etc.

@winston you can tell we be dedicated fans & as I know you a bit I reckon you could be chewing your finger nails, thinking, I just asked about a show I want to see & now you’re all arguing over it. Gah, you people!

@winston !!!! No! Try not to watch Season 6 before seasons 1-5. Otherwise, well, it’s “dark” but yes, incredible. But knowing the characters from the first season is best, imo. I understand they could be expensive? But it could be will be worth it.  Seriously. If you throw yourself into season 6, SO much of the brilliance of it, the new characters (or new-ish) will be a bit lost .

Also, some have said it’s a depressing season. I don’t agree completely with that but I do have an urge to say that I loved Season 3 for its hope & sheer high school lunacy as the characters have matured & season 5 is SO  spectacular, in story lines & craft, that it’s unbeatable. With anything. OK, maybe House, or Doctor Who, ahem, but, perhaps it beats even those. Almost…

Love to you & …..try not to watch it, yet. Aim for Season 1 which may scare you as some episodes are considered not ‘as good’ as others in Season 2. But Season One is where Whedon gets his feet wet. But like @pedant I was Buffy’s bitch from the moment it began. The humour, the love between the characters. (Also this is Thane16 typing for mum again).

@winston  Hey Winston, I’m typing for mum who isn’t “making sense.” Thank you. A great friend with 2 boys, eldest is 28 & a the other 23- 25. Her husband was a teacher who published some terrific ‘doable’ grammar texts &  retired to build apartments for their nest egg. She’s involved with choirs the type I’ve forgotten, but they go to town with glittery gowns & tight harmony. They compete overseas, too.  I remember singing a short duet from a Gluck opera with her & she had the most beautiful coloratura soprano voice I’d heard up close.

I’ll try & find a youtube clip from this type of choir. Sorry, I can’t recall specific name at the moment. This is Thane16 now:  I don’t know what the choir is either. Maybe @arbutus could shine a colourful light on this.  They’re all women. So one thing I’ve been watching with mum (& I’m on the wrong thread here) but @winston The Good Place (S4) on Netflix is terrific.  Also Chernobyl the series (thank you @pedant)  & Patrick Melrose. Mum’s brain is down with fish:  Jaws The Revenge (“it can’t be that bad [it is]” & Anaconda which is truly gross but she’s enjoying snakes/big teeth. Who am I to argue with that? 🙂

So, last week I found out a really good friend of mine, a mentor & a friend has early onset Alzheimers.

I was this nervous little thing & she’d say “right, take the chorus for this rehearsal” & I’d say “oh no, me? No, seriously, not me!” & she’d say “yes, you can & you will. 5 minutes. get ready.”

I’d be red in the face & get through it & the next day would be better & the end of the musical on the final night would be terrific. Teachers who didn’t help (too busy, ahem) would even stand up & applaud. Some not so thrilled because Sue decided that the final night would have four of us drama/music ‘controllers’ doing a strip tease. Susan’s husband, Ted would be ‘seduced’ down (that would be me doing the ‘sexy’ finger pointing) so that he’d continue on the piano whilst teachers in the first 2 rows (some, I’d really grown to despise) were giving us  menacing faces whilst the rest of the audience was roaring with laughter as we’d do a ‘tease’ to the final coda of the chorus.

OF COURSE this wasn’t a real strip tease. I had some silk PJs, from collar to feet & I took off the top bit under which I had another top whilst Sue had an old fashioned curly shower cap, carried a back scrubber & simply took off the cap. All of us were appropriately “high school” but it was very funny.

To Sue: she was an enormous friend. When things went awry in 94/96 I stayed with her, & eventually so the rest of our family. Not for a month, or two,  a very weeks but what became a year and a half. She never let us pay for groceries or anything else. Truly good people. This disease might soon take her music. This world. Aint fair. Never had been. But she was my friend & I count myself very lucky. This is to all the old gang.

I have an “ishoo” with boogie the woogie. But it’s FUN (& & I shouldn’t dislike it…. I don’t really).

It’s erm……repetitive. And his fingers are damned flat on the board. If he’d curl them he’ll have many years of playing to go….Gah! I know, I shouldn’t be negative. He sat down, & everyone had a helluva time. Interesing that many travellers kept on going & didn’t stop at all. At first. Imagine the people in the lift….wondering “what the heck’s happening down there? Get me down quicker!”

He seems like a nice young man too -ie: youtube comments. He’s in the U.S. to do a concert tour soon. And he composes this stuff therefore he has absolutely my total respect.

Just to blab about me for a brief moment. A terrifying organist teaching us…something….would always play some blues, b’woogie or jazz but he’d start with a bar from something very familiar, & we’d all be wracking our brains because he’d turn that teeny theme into a jazzy take & eventually back to the original theme until we worked out it was a Bach prelude or a Vivaldi concerto or one of The Seasons.

You are a wonderful cook.  Our young lad could eat dollops of cream, pie, lemon pie, apple pie and turkey, probably in that order! Not unlike his uncle he prefers savoury food which means weeks of baking in, well, baking heat, might ease a little. But it’s significant to share a table around which many memories are built, where troubles are sorted and happiness shared.

I am so sorry about Newton. The gorgeous pets have a story behind them of doting ‘parents’ & the significance of their name. My parents had dogs named Clicker & Clackett -at least at 3, that’s what I thought I heard. Later they had a cat named Quaver & I could pronounce that.   🙂

You have held this devastating news about your mum in law for a long time. Obviously something so crushingly sad is held in our hearts until we need, or want, to share with extended family. Even though we are hidden by screens this is a positive, warm place, where genuine sadness will find a little consolation. If you are falling we can catch you. Please reach out.

Congratulations on your marriage of 40 years; a sign of dedication to each other in times where things may seem transient &, as you say, struggling thru life as it rushes past, no pause for a life that just stops, and suddenly. I am so sorry.

Your husband & extended family were overwhelmed by her death; perhaps they still are. It seems like you had an excellent relationship with your mum in law & I can imagine her thinking of you a lot -you gave her grand children & she would’ve been devoted to you: with gentle hands and heart you took care of her son for 40 years. She’d be very proud of you  @winston.

I have to admit I didn’t even know Ginger’d died & I was listening to Mayall recently. Mayall made some extraordinary moves, mainly quick moves & not always backed by anything except his hind brain….But that’s my silly opinion. And it is silly.

Ah! John Bruce (JohnSAsherB -as music students we needed a cash ‘n’ carry way of remembering things by our 5th year as something else would brain-ooze). Bruce was classically trained & shimmied with the best. I knew of his collaboration with McLaughlin because of various mandatory units of minimalist modern music-making (had to alliterate that) where he didn’t always sing 🙂

So, Things We Like was….something I liked. Not the whole album but snippets. The album cover is totally gross (my lad’s analysis)**. It’s not a rainbow triangle on black; nor a white vinyl. There’s no band feeding 7 goats; & there aren’t a collection of celebs & clever clogs in colourful clothes like WC Fields, William Burroughs & others…

You would’ve all guessed those four with plenty of clues.  Uhm, Who? Red crosses for incorrects? Nah, maybe pink  😉  Actually the clues are funnier!

** ‘someone’s’ stuffing their face with a dog bowl of sausages & smashed spuds. If that doesn’t “gross” you out on an album cover then nothing else will. Although Iggy Pop had some flash & skin in the game too.

Totally agree: the singer and the feelings of certain times attached to certain music. It’s incredibly important to us. Almost as important as our sense of smell and how we capture a scent/fragrance memory. I don’t think I’ve explained that well but hopefully you get that  🙂

Oh @mudlark I hired an arborist who became very excited when I mentioned double digging. He said: “are you an archaeologist?” followed by: “a proper gardener?” I had to say “no, siree, I aint either.”  About 30 minutes later he’d figured out this for himself. “Why are you chucking out your leaves? I see egg shells in your bin (cue my red face). Can you pop them in the tree (the tuccarroo/tucaroo) or the soil? Your soil is dead. It’s inert.” 🙁

I’ve since learned to “undead” it. Sort of. It involves worm wee. When a person says “wormwe” it takes a lot of “sorry, excuse me, what?” because I was unprepared for worm followed by a voiced consonant which followed a conversation on medial consonants and fricatives which went around in circles….. SO I’m totally on the wrong thread.

Mind Gardens is pretty awful and REM’s Gardening At Night isn’t balanced AT ALL. So, I’ll go with the goodie I know and love, actually.

Youtubers think this song is “way ahead of its time.” I don’t think that. But I’m a changeable person. Sometimes even open to other’s opinions (except for Brexit, a Dr Woman, and Trump). It’s a neatly efficient song -it could’ve “gone on”  (something I do a lot)and didn’t. It’s a precise little choon. But it’s original and damn good.

I’m very sorry to hear this. My mum and my dad are also very sorry.  I am passing my dad’s prayers to you as he has asked.

I have heard of this in science, unfortunately, due to a precursor illness called Barrett’s disease which is one earliest form of it? Men get it more than women. Like @cathannabel says it is necessary that you have all the support you need from doctors & also support staff. When mum had cancer she was able to use the Breast Cancer support system which involved home visits, a pink bus for travel to & from hospital for treatments. She asked her specialist about support systems & found out a lot in Sydney and then Brisbane?

So, I can’t imagine what you must be feeling & your OH too but I know there’s support people who actually make the phone calls, organise the lifts to treatment clinics so you can rest up yourself. I remember you have a daughter so whilst it is hard on her too, perhaps she can assist with the organisational aspects of Cancer Care.  But we are very very sorry to hear this & I’m sure everyone here, and in your area feels the same. @cathannabel said it well.

I think the problem on the web -site were people asking for some happy time? Sometimes removal men who want to take all the furniture. I do not mind it myself. I think furniture is over-rated unless it is my bed. Parents will not buy me a longer bed so my feet stick out. They say if I want a longer bed I have to buy it myself. Also there are doctors on the ‘Doctor’ WHO forum who are not really the doctors we need. At home, though we had a serious doctor issue which caused some problems even though he only speaks English. It was funny looking back on it. This doctor or general practitioner is not an Indian person (and we do not have issues with Indian doctors. They are great),  but “Doctor Gupta” on our web site is not a Doctor Who-type Doctor?  🙂

oh yes the fires are bad. I thought the 12 year olds shouldn’t be charged like that. My dad said otherwise. I thought they were campers who didn’t know what they were doing? In the garden the wind blew ash and red dirt everywhere & I had to spend two hours wetting the house, the fence and then pulling out 5 plants which died overnight from wind-attack (that’s normally mum’s problem, ahem).  People have lost houses. You could check mums mention on this thread about how fast it was going: 10 metres per second per second up hill at TREE TOP LEVEL. Terrifying.

Just for people to be aware whilst we take joy in retaining The Ashes, there’s raging bushfires even at the beginning of Spring.  The actual heat is ……-at the moment quite low, with minimums of 7-12.

Not far from here, but far enough, people had 10 minutes to get out. No time beyond a grab-bag. The fire was running up hill at 10 metres per second at tree-top level.

Think about that.  10 metres PER second in the dark.  An orange hell blasting up, taking anything with it. And our fire-fighters are volunteers.  One owner said “it’s OK to say you’re gonna stay and fight it. It’s another thing to see a universe of orange coming at you. You’re brought to your knees or you run.”

Greetings from our Brisbane winter -alright, it’s spring, but just & yesterday was 31 & today 34! Madness.

Yet the non-experts ignore the discussion about “what are we going to do about….global warming?” [singing this to Sound of Music’s “what are we ….about Maria?”]

I wrote that all-a-muck 😉  I was thinking that toinfinityandbepond  and devilishrobby might not know me as the Puro, of old, what with Thane’s suggestion of “syzygy” which is a concept he takes great delight in. But yes, other than a few kilograms and pounds here and there, we’re still recognised -which is what matters, as you say.

And here, we mostly tend to speaking up -or standing up ‘in front’ of our computer rather than hiding behind it?

I get the impression people are relatively honest (Ahem), even those who want to move my furniture (one of the spammers), or date me/us. I somehow think the lady who had several million dollars to share, might have been telling a little fib. 😉

As well as items for removal -should I wish it. Frankly, I’d be thrilled down to my bootstraps if they would remove  carpet from d’house and take it to waste disposal. Not the best, but enthusiastic (singers)  and a library. Although not many people were smiling. To me, singing is smiling!  One of the soloists needed some tuition from …..Russell Crowe. Lot of people don’t like Crowe’s rendition (of anything). I did, though, even with ADR.  I’m not a huge musical fan then again it was JCSuperstar which I was brought up on -and Evita, of all things. 🙂

@arbutus great to see you up and about on the Forum! I didn’t know you were in Alberta. Being as I have my secret ways I think I was in Alberta (for 2 weeks) when you were in school there.  But it was your last 2 yrs of school and I was 13-14 so….maybe not. But the Arbutus and puro line may have at least danced to the same music at the time, so bonus for this 🙂 And yes Rock Lobster….what was it with the falling down and getting back up again?

I remember dressed up in various teacher clothes doing a Halloween gig where my friend imitated our history teacher who loved her tight jeans and denim shorts for work. She was a tanned teacher and so my friend, a very cream skinned young lady had to ‘paint’ her legs brown for the shorts-portion of the act. Tells you how long ago this was, as there were no tanning products in 1982-84 in Australia, then, at least.  Typically, I was dressed as the “boring librarian” who I didn’t think was boring at all!

I need a song about a library. Or….maybe…. I have an idea for a surprise….

Hey! Sorry, what’s an “Emily Post ?”

Yeah, here, we do tag people because Syzygy might confuse people or they may not really want to read that again. Short story: mum and I share the tag. Mum’s sick a bit, so sometimes I type for myself, others I type for her. I’m doing that now. And when I DO type for mum, I always let people know that. It’s just part of the general site behaviour here which is extremely helpful actually. There are things we have which no other site has ever had. There are no ads, for instance which means that lots of fantastic posts can be read over many, many different years on every new Doctor and old. I was reading some from 2013 when I joined and the genuine KNOWLEDGE  was stunning on every level. I will state outright that I am friends with some of these people. I don’t want to annoy @mudlark or @arbutus but these are close friends and also @pedant. He’s a generous and kind man who I have been friends with for a long time and also whisht.

It’s hard to understand how you’d have taken antenna and analogue signals at the point in say, 1971 in the States. But it sounds….interesting. I haven’t seen more than a few eps of Red Dwarf. I remember the dialogue and it was cracking! I liked Star Trek and hosted Star Trek parties at the house from 9 til midnight on Friday and Saturday nights after uni as I was in the enviable position of hainvg a she-cave in the mid-80s with my own small sink (which I advertised as a wet bar) and a fridge as well as a hastily built all brick bathroom (which people would call a steam punk bath these days and charge 15 thousand for it!).

Doctor Who re-runs were all over the telly in the 1970s and new ones from the 80s also came in “chunks” of episodes with Tom Baker (by new, you can see I mean very old -it’s all relative at this point) and later our funny, celery wearing, tennis clothed Doctor who I liked a lot. In fact, like a lot of girls I think I had a bit of a crush on him. After that, though, and not for want of trying I didn’t see anymore Who until the Big Movie Flop which had the brother of a famous female actor in the title “evil” role. I know I left the cinema excited about the special FX, and the realisation, yet again, that “those Irish brothers are excellent actors” but I hope none of them get the gig should it return.

And then I saw Paul McGann in the web-sodes in 2013 and bit my tongue. He was incredible. In the 10 or so minutes he was on screen changing or morphing into the War Doctor. I think Doctor Who then was at its peak. But then we had Capaldi and hit another ‘peak’ and I don’t see too many troughs.

All and any errors are attributed to Syzygy the Younger always and forever. This is why we have children.

Also I caught what you said about your late wife @roger429. I hope it wasn’t sudden? But then as even the best of screenwriters say, “no, yes, it’s always sudden.” And I probably have that quote wrong too. The “yes” could come first. But my sentiment is genuine. And I hope you have many, many happy memories and perhaps children to share them with?

So, I have the computer (the only thing in the house that’s not my phone I can get internet on as the school computer locks you off the internet on certain hours of the weekend. We’re permanently locked out of youtube which is damn annoying as there are 1st class lectures on philosophy and no YT access to Ted Talks which is silly But  I’m trying to do the syllabubble thing (“Ma- mah”) with how people in England, the young Queen would say “pa -pah” or “grand-papah” with the accent on the last syllable? I’m now going to keep saying or writing  “syllabubble” ALL the time!!   🙂    🙂

You know the bit in season 6 when people are looking at a dancer at the Bronze and it’s Dawn? And Xander gets embarrassed. I felt that too! Like she was my older sister. Xander  was seeing her through “I’m virtually her elder brother or young uncle.”

I’m the younger one here. Not the mum Syzygy which she explained up top. Maybe we should be in the Pub for all this? So @roger429 the other area is part OF the Forum -it’s not another Forum. Mum found this Doctor. Forum when searching for answers to questions about the Smith Doctor. Being all musical  🙂 mum really likes the musical themes from the new “Doctor ” theme reaching back to Eccles and Tennant and the simple melodies of Donna and Clara. I remember the Clara theme, the others not too much and I also like Smith’s speeches….right, memory ‘thread’  @whisht. I’ll head there.

I love Wah-wah. Possibly boring anecdote: I had this playing really loud to a group of very sick gentlemen in the States (fiddling around with music therapy) as well as the Beatles and Merseyside groups.

The patients were blue collar workers who opened up about music, how they met their wives (one guy had 4. He was a strict Catholic and all 3 had died from a variety of ailments), what they liked to do like going down to various halls having come home late from work on a Friday saying, “gal, get your glad rags on, put on some lipstick and  Marjorie is looking after the kid.”  They all started talking at once, colour gone for weeks returned to their cheeks and the ‘lead’ chap (who did more talking) said it was 1973 and his wife was pregnant. So pregnant that, in fact, shortly after listening to these songs (he included Wah-wah which I might have added in for the laughs) and other Harrison choons; and doing a slow dance to Johnny Cash, her waters broke and they just made it to the hospital. She wanted to name him “George” but he was flat-out against it so they named him Paul.

Anywaaay, one of the guys had an acoustic guitar and having collected it from the lockers started playing it over the next few weeks but being LH I really needed to re-string the one I was given for 10 bucks. The patient did it for me. And being no kind of guitarist at all I followed him slowly, tongue stuck out, stretching index fingers over sharp cat-gut with basic chords. On this song he’d get impatient because the “entire song demands a resolution on the 5th chord and you, sweetie are taking waaay too long. You like to keep a man waitin’ do ya?”

Perhaps unusually I burst into laughter and the other 3 patients in the ward did too. It was a wonderful few weeks, I learnt a lot but never found out what happened to them in hospice care. And I never followed thru with music therapy as I was never really good at it! I had other musicological potential 🙂 Most things would freak me out -as mentioned in The Sofa

Ah yes, so syzygy came from a show my son loves (and me too) called The OA. Except he had also learnt that, in astronomy, it’s an alignment of three bodies including a celestial body like the sun.

Also, practically, my son and I are both holders of the same name -and in poetry, and music, particularly during Homeric times (the music, not necessarily the poetry: I’ll leave @mudlark to assess this as resident Latinist with whom I was having an interesting translatory discussion some months ago about a piece of generally- known poetry associated with Virgil and others…) singing prosody, that is pyrrhic prosody, has two short sylla-BUBBLES .  🙂

It can also mean 2 completely different things. So, the Younger hasn’t known cassettes or VHS or home movies or transistors but I myself (the Elder) grew up somewhat like you. Except in Aus we had access to Doctor Who when I was a small girl. I loved the cold, dry and foreboding doctor in Pertwee. I actually liked his authoritarian nature.

Says a lot about how I was brought up, I guess. Males were respected bread winners and women, like my mother, sewed and cooked, mended and chatted with other ladies for 40 minutes during the wash cycle before they’d rush back in the house, and with a wooden spoon, take the boiled sheets from the washer and feed them, with large rubber gloves, into the spinner.

I really hated wash days. I was 3 foot nothing and big white sheets with steam coming off them being spun about always made me think the machine would lift off at precisely the point it reached an ‘apex’ of sound. After which I’d dive into my room and under my day bed/cot.

I was a child easily frightened. I could never have been a Sarah, a Rose, a Martha or a Donna.

In a sand pit, was the small child.  :ll

For a child so busy with assignments, he sure has a lot to say, does Syzygy. Mind you, I agree: lots of music his friends listen to is similar with pulsating back beats, over- bass 16 tracks & is wholly digital with almost nothing that I would say gives the impression of natural. Certainly if the Beatles, Bowie, ELP could do things with Moogs and 20th century ‘classically’ inspired western tonal keyboard music and have it sound ‘live’ and flawless then current genx can do the same with digital inputs.

Action’s fine! I remember at 12 loving Buffy FOR the action. Later, there came (ahem) different elements I liked.

I really liked Eccleston’s first episode “Rose” (and then compare that with “Rosa” -and that’s one stunning attribution and  comparison) because how darn BIG it was! The London wheel,  and in later episodes, Big Ben with Capt Jack on his invisible spaceship in the 2 parter “Are you my mummy?”  That scared me sh**less when I was 8.

Then, we hand “Blink” and my jaw dropped. It dropped even further with Donna and the intro of River in The Silence in The Library and the magnificent library scenes. I found the 60s hard to take. As I got older I saw Troughton and Pertwee and was more into it?

Mum (the other Syzygy) loved Pertwee’s era?  Her first post ever here (6 years ago) was about the long dim, creepy corridors, black and white, hushed instructions, terrifying mind-bending aliens. Her own mum had died in 1974 and so Mum, when 7  found solace in Pertwee’s “charm” and his dominant behaviour. It gave her somewhere to hide, someone she could follow. It was very important to her.

I have a distant cousin who’s now 11,  felt the same way with our latest Doctor. She’s young, a genius and a girl, so I think she’s finally found someone who, like her is brilliant at maths or science and making things on adventures when she had almost no-one three  years ago she could relate to, who was feminine,  young, good looking and could talk a million miles an hour (which my cousin does. Bless her heart).

I take your point. Agreed. But. Many of the original dr who stories actually were historical stories. At 17, I’ve seen, probably, 11 of these thru a period in ’63, ’69 with the Dr Original (Dr O not Doctor No!) & Pat Troughton.

Man, were some SO slow. I realise today, when you put a piece like Rosa up against ANY episode in the 60s and 70s (& ’80s) you’ll end up with a realisation that a) there are no hard traditions with Who (it’s why it’s survived) b) many current eps in After Gap are brilliant compared to Before Gap c) the rambly dissonance of the early period with screamy chicks and a lecture-y doctor is gone & replaced with spectacular fantasy & beautiful CGI effects.

I think there is no situated Who & almost no traditions. Well, OK, a few: there’s a Doctor who can be any gender or anyone, they ride in a Tardis they stole & they’re a bit lonely, live for thousands of years & like a companion/assistant/snogger/screamer/thinker/possible new Doctor (like Clara in the latter) to show “everywhere and everywhen” to.

No worries @roger429! Don’t disappear.  🙂

I like how proud the lyrics are? Not “I’m gonna hit that ….[insert word].”

I don’t know why mum hasn’t shown this to me. I mean the Greek name alone she tells me ALL the time. Yesterday she said “you never listen” and I say “because you go on with this long thesis and 30 mins later we haven’t progressed past the 12 minutes of The Sinner!”

Your comment makes sense @pedant. I forget that the BBC has a variety of “expectations” as the ABC does here. I think Rosa was great. And one more was awesome. But I liked quite a few. Rosa was studied in class -and is still being studied with the next round of students.

@whisht you’ve been playing a lot of great stuff. I don’t think I knew about the B52s til a few years ago. On at a party and I was surprised. It was 16 year old’s party and the music was 70s and 80s. I figured I’d go back to another one of those. Really awesome funky dancing.  So.….

“We’d like to play a song which kinda is our..we knew we were gonna come back & do’t. This is a …yeah, sorry. Uh. This is kinda of our hymn, this song…it’s about you and me. We’re gettin’ a bit old now…..”

My Generation.  And I know  W’stock is over. But it’s never really over.  (When you compare it to the NY dude who tried to put a music festival on in 3 months with kids spending between $3K and $250K for a yacht for 2 days or a “cabana, luxury, next to the beach.” )

So, my mum & dad gave me this when I was 2. For Christmas. I think I tried to eat it. Every year they gave me a new CD that was ‘serious’ from Pet Sounds to ma’s favourite (Revolver) which isn’t Dad’s (that’s Sergeant Pepper’s);  Jeff Buckley? And some really weird stuff like Jimmy Buffet. But also The White Album and some Jewish music AND some amazing Tango. I don’t think that’s anywhere on youtube. And last year  they slipped up & missed about 6 years which is something they need to re-dress! And immediately. Or should I say “very immediately coz it’s really unique.” But that’s being a bit scornful. I hear people say things like that, or write them, and I say nothing. Zip my mouth. Mum has trouble doing that!  But they gave me something ‘blank’ with a chic’s voice I’d never heard. It was whoa! I find out from a mate who is 18 years older than I, that it was mum. Like 20 years ago!

I could NOT believe this! He rants on a message about how the Left are haters and warmongers, that there is nothing but peace in Trump, that he’s a Christ loving person who is radical in all the right ways & provides messages of hope & love. Er what? I thought Voight had a good conscience….

It’s interesting that he’s glad Trump didn’t have to deal with the leftist lobby because of his supreme wealth. Why doesn’t he argue about the presidential election problem? Also, Professors Blenkinsop, I hope my Hallelujah wasn’t interpreted as a right-enabling interpretation? you have been working hard! I have the embarrassing tale of not knowing very much about the B52s until Love-Shack which I thought energetic -more so than Lobster, actually, which McCartney didn’t like and Lennon (well, OK, Ono did). I’ve never head Planet Claire before! Ooh. Good!

Brilliant choices!   “Tighter than a Gnat’s Chuff.”  That saying is almost as good as the music. I have to show to Thane this in particular -and the hairstyles of the B52s too.  I like Word’s Up, a lot -for the same reasons: it’s beautifully choreographed & so well lit (in every way).
