@jphalmore @whilst   The doctor put the sonics on when he got to the wall and he scanned it.  It was the only time we saw him use them, which I thought was weird since he could maybe have used them for something else?

Just wanted to pop in for a minute and throw something out that came into my mind earlier regarding Clara’s death.  What about the possibility that Clara was teleported when the raven hit her?  Remember the glowing light, what if that light ported her to Gallifrey?

From that trailer it seems Capaldi directly said that he is the hybrid and will destroy a billion hearts to heal his own.  And his voice sounded different to me, so perhaps those who speculated the Valeyard were correct and that is who showed up, not the doctor.

@ichabod  I got that same spinning head thing when the time loop sped up too.  It was effective though.  I think the TL’s underestimated the Doctor.  I don’t think they expected him to be able to make it out.  They put him through hell to find out the hybrid, and then he confesses that it is him.  I think that is what he meant by me.  Not Ashildr.  But of course it could be.  This is definitely an episode that needs a few more viewings to really get all that’s going on.

Hey all I just wanted to mention that when I watched Face the Raven again tonight, I noticed something peculiar.  When the Raven/Spirit took off for Clara the tattoo on Ashildr didn’t release like it did for the other man.  Now I don’t know if it’s because like Ashildr said that Clara cut her out of the deal, so the spirit/raven didn’t go through Ashildr or it’s a very noticeable out for Clara’s death.  I don’t know if it’s been discussed in the Raven thread I don’t remember reading it anyway.

Asylum of the Daleks we see Moffat introducing the concept of the Pathweb linking all the Daleks that a version of Clara was able to hack into.  That would be a perfect conduit for another version of Clara to hack Time Lord souls into the Daleks.h

When you said this it struck me in the Zygon Inversion said once Clara gets into your head she never leaves. Something like that anyway.  Clara has been in the daleks heads so to speak since Asylum of the Daleks, when she was Oswin.

@nerys  I did see that and apologies for not mentioning you by name.  I tend to read several posts and then let those stew in my brain, and suddenly I have an idea about things.  I did the same thing you did but on paper while watching the episodes over and looking at episode photos.  I agree the pants are difficult to see so it is rather hard to tell which one’s are which.  I’ve enjoyed reading all the theories on the board, including @ichabod, @bendubzz, @frobisher,@puroandson,@bleninsopthebrave, sorry those are the one’s off the top of my head.  I know there are more and apologies for not remembering any more names.  I will try to do a better job of the @fill in name here thing.

I guess by pay off I meant that this theme or even the connections between them will be addressed in the show.  Explained for lack of a better word.  Maybe the arc is vastly different from these musings. They are still worthwhile things to think about even if they aren’t addressed/answered in the finale.

    @frobisher

Does anyone know what the Doctor and Clara were wearing at the end of The Woman Who Lived, and if that corresponds with their clothing at the start of any other episode (e.g. Sleep No More)? The Doctor’s hair length may also be a clue – it noticeably fluctuates.

The outfits in the Girl Who Died and TWF and TMA are the same for the Doctor.  I think these 3 should form a group as well.  There are two episodes so far that the Doctor has obviously changed clothes.  TMA and FTR.  In TMA, it seems to point to the fact that the doctor went from young Davros to say UTL, his clothes are the same in that scene and that episode. But that same outfit appears in other episodes as well.  It is in UTL though where Clara says she wants another adventure, some excitement.  If it was in order, they just had plenty in TMA/TWF.

Then back to the white t-shirt and plaid pants for the remainder of TMA and TWF as well as The girl who died.  One thing I especially remember when the Doctor first sees Clara in TMA it’s like he has seen her die already from his reaction. Clara point blanks asks which one of us is dying.  So many questions in my mind. @puroandson

Glad to see  you back Puro, and welcome to your son!

@ichabod  Yes you are speaking my language.  Even if Moffat doesn’t directly end up with this as his arc, it’s all really there for us to see.  Contemplation of reality

.Hmm.  On the other hand, What does it mean to be alive? . . . does anyone ever really live or does perspective just change?

Apparently The Matrix has had a strong effect on my mind because honestly I had no idea I was repeating nearly exactly what Morpheus says, hmm Morpheus like in Sleep No More.   Will there be a payoff to this thinking in the show, hell who knows?  There is this frenzy of thoughts where this is all going.  And do I really want to figure it out and ruin the last two episodes.  Honestly no I don’t, but I keep thinking about it anyway.

@ichabod  I was thinking maybe it was a clue for himself, like he was the one who would eventually have a problem with it.  It’s weird for me like Missy was watching the Dr.  show when she was seen watching on her device she manipulates things with, not really sure what that thing is exactly.  I assumed TL tech.  Then in Sleep No More we get filming from the pov of the characters and then the sandmen make a viral video out of the footage.  The doctor told the Fisher King that this is where his story ends in BTF.  Bors wanted the doctor to tell him his story in the prologue. The Mire were fooled by a story.  Doctor 10 said “we’re all stories in the end”.  This theme goes a great distance back, but what does it mean for this series?  I read through all of your theories and they are amazing.  I have a hard time doing the @ thing because I forget and have to go back up to find it then I risk forgetting the point I was trying to make.  Your theories have given me other perspectives to what we’re seeing as well as confirmation that the things that pop out to me are hitting your guys radar as well.

    Carrieanne @replies

So this is my real question for all the this is a story or the matrix, it’s in his mind.  How far back in the Doctor’s timeline does this go?  To previous generations even? I mean Tennant uploaded River to the Library, based on Smith’s knowing she would need it. Also who is telling the story? Who controls the matrix? I mean I’m actually with you on this point.  I can’t figure out the why. I think my brain may be overloading, but part of me feels either this is the Doctor leaving himself clues like in Time Heist when they all touch the memory worm thing and he forgot he was the architect.  By the way in the movie Matrix Reloaded there was a character in the matrix named the architect who was the creator of the matrix itself. If the doctor is in a sort of matrix like Missy had, or even the great intelligence, how long has he been there?

Another thing I wonder about is all the references to memory wipes throughout the last 3 season’s at least.  The latest being in Raven.  Also the themes of death, dreams, ghosts and consciousness. Reality v.s. Dream.  I also keep thinking of the silent passenger from Listen.  The idea that we are never really alone, so we speak aloud.  Maybe it’s the two different sides of ourselves.  What does it mean to be dead, if the soul and consciousness can be sent elsewhere does anyone ever really die or does perspective just change?

    #47938
    Carrieanne @replies

Also in The Girl Who died when they defeat the Mire, the Doctor says that’s what happens when you view reality through technology. What I’m wondering if that has anything to do with his sonic glasses, and the reason he has them?

    #47937
    Carrieanne @replies

Since you guys brought up the Nethersphere with Missy, how exactly was she able to be in the Nethersphere?  She wasn’t dead as were the other souls, and Seb was an interface I believe she called it.  Also random thought when the Doctor decided to save Ashildr he said  something like if anyone has a problem with it …to hell with them and now he’s, although the episode is called “Heaven Sent” one could argue he’s actually in a sort of hell.

    #47887
    Carrieanne @replies

@lewis97 actually in the prologue the doctor is wearing the same outfit as the tank scene and the rest of TMA/TWF only at the beginning with young Davros is he wearing the polka dot/black shirt.  Even when he goes back to save him the outfit is as in the rest of the episode.  The next time he wears the black dot shirt is in UTL/BTF.  One other thing I want to mention is when we see the holograms of the Doctor and Clara in those two episodes they sort of flashed a bit when they were turning off?  I noticed the aliens on the trap street also did that.  I know it’s supposed to be the filter but it looks the same and why would they not just see the aliens clearly rather than static like? Ashildr also showed the doctor a work around for the filter, she hit or pinched him, perhaps from that point he could see things we couldn’t?

    Carrieanne @replies

I rewatched some episodes of this season last night and I noticed the outfits outlined by @lewis97( i had to go way back up to get your name lol) My personal guess is that Under the Lake/Before the flood are where Clara’s journey begins this year with the doctor, although we saw TMA/TWF as the premiere.  Clara was so calm when Missy asked “How’s your boyfriend, still incredibly dead?” However in Under the Lake when the doctor tries talking to her about getting another boyfriend or a hobby she tears up. The pain was fresher for her.  Something is definitely out of sync with the doctor and Clara’s timeline.  What does that mean for the story though is another question.  A way for the doctor to get ahead of events somehow or to work out a way out of it all, I don’t know.

    Carrieanne @replies

@sirclockface @blenkinsopthebrave  I too have felt the order of the episodes maybe off, not backwards, but rather out of sync.  One of the main reason’s I think is the doctors clothes.  The whole season he has worn variations of t-shirts and the hoodie, now in the episode where Clara dies he changes into the crushed red velvet coat and his hair shorter and neater especially from TMA.  What if from Clara’s perspective it starts from UTL/BTF? It was mentioned by some that the premiere two episodes felt like a finale.  What if for the doctor it is the end and he’s already seen Clara die?  Crazy I guess.

I really loved this episode.  I’ve been anticipating Raven for a long time, it didn’t disappoint me at all.  This one had another instance of altered perception that we have discussed before.  The story within a story @blenkensothebrave talked about the episode Sleep no More.  Before that Clara was in a zygon pod in an altered reality. The theme of dreams and altered perception goes all the way back to Asylum of the Daleks in which she was converted into a dalek but didn’t realize it and created a dream world for herself rather than face the truth.  There was the psychic link dream in The Name of the Doctor with River and the others.  Almost forgot in Bells of St  John that Clara was uploaded by the Great Intelligence.  Part of me wonders is Clara even real?  Did the doctor dream all this?  Was he in a virtual reality by the time lords?  The Dalek rusty said the doctor was a good dalek during Into the Dalek.  What if the Doctor is the hybrid?  I don’t know?  So all this may have been preparation to become the hybrid?  I know that is a bonkers theory for sure!  However I can’t help wonder what you all think? Clara was the impossible girl, nothing about her ever made sense.  Last Christmas he said we can never for one second know if we are awake or dreaming. How far would this dream go back for him?  Quite a while, at least to Clara, but remember that Amelia Pond was a girl his enemies used one time to destroy him.  Amy viewed the doctor as a story from her childhood, Raggedy Man.  She wrote stories about him.  Maybe I just have a crazy imagination.  We kinda assumed Clara was the one in a dream, what if it was the doctor, and now he’s waking up.

The sacrifice mentioned reminds me of The Woman who live when it required a death to open the portal.  Maybe the necklace Ashildr wears is part of the eyes of hades?  The time lords were frozen in a moment in a pocket universe, how would they escape that?  If Missy knows where Gallifrey is, whether she was truthful with the doctor in it’s coordinates is dubious at best, perhaps she is the one who wants to help open it.

I didn’t read any posts yet….I just wanted to get my thoughts out first.  I really don’t believe it either.  Clara is dead.  I don’t think a timey trick is coming.  Now as for who wanted the doctor, Time Lords? but how would they be able so I’m wondering if it’s Missy and Davros, actually that is where my thoughts are.  They want the hybrid.  I really found this episode to be amazing and heartbreaking. And we all know the doctor won’t listen to Clara, he’s going to burn it all!

@purofilion  I am so sorry you have to wait puro!  I’m in the US and I can watch this evening and I feel like that’s never going to get here.  Waiting until tomorrow while everyone else has seen it would be torture.  Don’t think I have anticipated an episode as much as this one since I started watching as they come out.  Remember I watched the rest on Netflix before Day of the Doctor.  I’m completely ruined now lol!   But it sure does amp up the anticipation.  My final prediction for Clara for this episode is not dying, I’ve gone back and forth and I just think it’s not this one for Clara, now all bets are off for the finale.

I don’t know what pants is either, I read it somewhere else.  The episode was pants!  So I assumed they didn’t like it, but why the deuce is pants a bad thing?  Maybe boring as pants?  Oh remember Rory in the Power of Three he said they showed up with him in his pants, which he was in his underpants.  But still I happen to like my underpants so still not sure why it’s bad. Except as it is close to the bum?  Maybe they meant boring, like pants aren’t exactly an exciting thing?  I was hoping you guys could tell me lol.

I guess for me Matt Smith’s doctor was about hope.  Yes he had all the feelings of guilt and self loathing the other’s had, but still managed not to be dark and depressing, in general.  Now could he go dark, absolutely, but in situations where we all would be in a dark frame of mind.  But it was always an understated anger that boiled from deep within, not out of every pore.  I’ve been rewatching his seasons the past few weeks and I noticed that I was so happy to be with him again.  Most of the time his tenure felt like the right amount of dark light balance.  His incarnation of the doctor did seem whimsical and I’ve thought about that and what I take away is that he believed that to be his last generation of the doctor, it obviously didn’t turn out that way, but he didn’t know that it would change. Also his Doctor’s first encounter was with a child, which always has the capacity to help one view the world through the eyes of a child.

The show is a deeper hue right now, and with Clara’s impending exit of course it would be.  But peppered in throughout is humor.  Missy actually following through with scratching Davros eye in TMA was too much for me. Loved it.  I guess I’m trying to say that all the generations of the doctor always had the darkness, NuWHo of course as I haven’t seen BG, which I’m hoping to rectify when I can.  But you cannot see the light if you don’t have the darkness, just as without the dark night sky we wouldn’t see the glorious stars.

Oh and @purofilion I also hate to say people are stupid, but sometimes you just have to wonder what else it could be, except for trolling pure and simple.  However when you read it enough and for the love of all that is holy, the people who believe Obama to be the anti-Christ actually make my head want to explode. Donald Trump as the savior, ummmmmmm that is a new one to me, and not even a remotely believable plot line, imo, of course.  I think those type of posters actually let other’s think for them, then let paranoia set in and then regurgitate what they’ve been told to think.  I come to this forum because I don’t have anyone right now to discuss Who with in my life, my stepdaughter loves Dr Who, but this is her first semester of college so she hasn’t watched any but the first ep of the season.  We’re going to binge watch the season when she comes for Christmas. Oh and I tell her nothing spoilery at all, that wouldn’t be fair.  Here, I feel real discussion happening rather than a blanket statement of what crap they think the episode was or worst episode of who ever, though I haven’t personally felt any of them to be “pants” lol.  I may be easily entertained but I don’t care, I love Doctor Who.

@purofilion We had one of those first world problems the other day, the power went out and my girls said well what do we do now? When I cry over a TV show it’s all you know it’s just a tv show Carrie.  But I say if they’re doing it right, then crying is definitely going to happen for me.  I get wrapped up in the story and for that moment they make me believe the pain.  As for Clara, I am still skeptical that she will die in Face the Raven.  I read that Mirror article a long time ago, but as it only quotes an insider I took it with a grain of salt.  I’ve said before there are worse things than death for a companion and for the doctor as well.  Could it still happen, of course but it was always the glaring possibility the show has foreshadowed.  This is probably called denial, lol, but I don’t care, anything is still possible until we see it. I’m having trouble with this week going fast enough.  I tried to make  yesterday Thursday, I’m in the U.S. and then I told my brother that I couldn’t wait for Tomorrow to watch Doctor Who, which of course was still a day off of when I actually thought I was.  Timey-wimey life going on apparently. But you know however Clara exits, we’re still losing her, I just want her to have a fabulous story  to wrap up her tenure with the Doctor.

I have read other forums and it is seriously depressing and disillusioning!  There are just some people, who no matter what the episode is just hate it and don’t expand besides saying it’s pants. Which by the way what the heck is pants? Why are they bad?  They complain about Moffat and want him gone yesterday.  It is so negative that I just can’t bear it.  The worst for me personally is the Clara haters, not they don’t like her they hate her and want her to die horribly, also yesterday!!  I have grown to love Clara and while I don’t expect everyone to feel the same I just can’t figure out right hatred for a fictional character on a tv show.  Sometimes I wonder if it’s really just trolls or there are people out there who continue to watch a show that they no longer enjoy and then spread the misery to those who do.  I don’t respond to the negativity, because then they accuse you of trying to stifle their opinion.  So ya @purofilion it’s depressing sometimes to say the least.

Watching the trailer, well the second one, it feels to me like Clara is having to walk away from the doctor in danger.  The look on his face is not one I would imagine to be on his face if Clara was in danger of dying, but rather if he was the one sacrificing his life.  She needs to be brave to walk away from that. Just my impression anyway.

@blenkinsopthebrave  I just asked the other day about this very thing, the cot! That is why I asked because I wondered if the cot had their child’s name on it, not the doctor or Melody’s.  It always struck me odd the way the doctor reacted to her reveal.  I wanted it to be Clara as well, but as you say, it’s not really all that likely.  I was so excited to see you express these thoughts as it is what has been in my mind as well.

@blenkinsopthebrave  When you mentioned the story within a story within a story it took me back to Last Christmas and the dreams within dreams. The Doctor also said in that episode that none of us can ever know if what we’re seeing is real or dream.  I don’t think Clara’s still in the dalek, it seems to me this arc goes back further than this season.  Perhaps as @kharis suggested in another post somewhere on here lol, the CAL theory.  Maybe Moffat knew long ago where he wanted to go with Clara and why it was important to get her to sign on again for this season.  Bonkers theory…..I know but that’s kind of this sites thing right?

So before I go read your posts about this episode, I just have to say I love seeing the doctor screaming, holding Clara’s hand and yelling run.  I had a fairly rotten day so this episode, even though creepy certainly made me lol!  Oh and as if all the other stuff in Clara’s mind/dreams wasn’t enough foreboding, now she has sand in her eyes?? I actually did like this one.  I enjoyed seeing the Doctor and Clara together as they are about to part company soon enough. I’m not sure how I can wait for three weeks to see how this season wraps up.  However I am looking forward to each one as an episode.  So those are first impressions from me for now.

My theory at the moment is that Gallifrey will show up in the hidden pocket they end up during Face The Raven, or it may be the cliffhanger for that episode at least.  As for Clara’s ending, it really could go any of the ways we have been theorizing, or it may be something Moffat pulls out of his hat lol.

I have a question for you all.  In the episode A Good Man Goes to War, when the doctor realizes who River is, I can’t quite figure out what she shows him.  It’s obviously the cot or the prayer leaf, my question is he responds with that means and he makes kisses  and implication of more and River says yessss.  I guess I’m wondering how either of those things tells him that they are intimately involved, if you will?  If it was the cot what exactly did the cot say? We already knew she knew his name from Library, and the leaf revealing she was Melody doesn’t translate to his reaction.  Help this scene has always drove me crazy because I just don’t see how he figured out they were lovers.

@nerys I thought immediately of Donna when I saw your screen name.  I agree with you I think however Clara leaves will be heartbreaking.  There are worse things than Death when traveling with the time lord.  My feeling right now is that I think she will die.  It seems to me that the episodes are out of order.  Not backward, but more the Dr is jumping around.  The way he said ” I’ll be the judge of time”  was way to dark, he wasn’t relieved or joyful that Clara survived.  I guess it feels like the Doctor already knows how Clara’s story ends.  I re watched TMA and TWF and I was left wondering what Missy’s clever idea was?  Also Clara was using mental powers to work the dalek.  She’s had to do that quite a lot in this and last season’s episode.  Remember the mental link in Time of the Doctor with Vastra, River,Jenny and Strax?  Then River mentioned it again as a spoiler.  I really hope that Moffat really explains how Impossible Clara is, and what Missy had to do with it?  Ah so much thinking, it’s like I’m writing my own ending in my head lol.

@kharis Thank you for the welcome! I think the surviving Osgood was human, while I myself am Zygon lol! Although I don’t think it matters as Osgood herself said.  My favorite episode is, though I’ve never sat and considered it, is probably A Christmas Carol. There was something just magical to me about that episode and the idea of the Doctor going back to Kazaran’s childhood to change his mind.  Also I’m a sucker for the line that he’s never met anyone unimportant.  I loved David Tennant, he was my first Doctor as I never watched classic Who.  I caught it on a rerun on BBC 1.  It was New Earth!  I was hooked, then proceeded to watch all of new who on Netflix.  Actually my viewing experience of DW is a bit timey-wimey lol!  Although I still love Tennant doc, Matt Smith is my doctor.  The way he was able to be both old and young at once I think was just brilliant.  Capaldi has been wonderful as the doctor and at first hard for me to accept, but of course I didn’t want Tennant to go either.  He is the doctor as they all are just a new/aged face.  Donna Noble has left the library…..adored Donna with her attitude she is my favorite.  That being said I’ve loved them all in their own way.  Clara is fantastic and I am dreading her departure.  Never understood all the dislike/outright hate for her.  So ya Donna and Clara favorite companions.

Clara seems to be in another consciousness many times since she began.  The dream crabs from Christmas she was in layers of consciousness.  Also when the great intelligence uploaded her in Bells of St John.  Not sure if I’d consider being encased in the dalek as a change in consciousness per se, but still trapped mentally. I think the arc is way longer than this season.  Clara is the impossible girl.  Maybe we get to learn why she is?  I don’t think they wrapped it up in Time of the Doctor. This season does sort of have a reversed order, in other words we’re seeing it backwards?  After this episode I feel like we are headed for a brilliant finale! And then River Song…..
