On the whole, a very enjoyable episode. I liked the premise and some of the scenes were fantastic, however, throughout the series there have been glaring acting/screenplay slip ups which I hope they brush out for the next series (hopefully there is one because it’s enjoyable and there are ways it can improve)

Completely off topic but, as Moffat’s been hinting at it, I believe Susan may make an appearance in series 10.

Happy birthday Tom Baker! And with that big finish are doing all of his early stories for £5 each until tomorrow!

@mccottonthedoctorfan Thank you for the review!

I think I might buy the doom coalition box set featuring Paul Mgann. How long was each episode roughly?

@mccottonthedoctorfan thank you for that I was thinking of buying some of the 8th doctor ones but I was unsure as to whether they were any good.

Did anyone notice that in Smithdoc’s last episode Clara’s grandmother was wearing the same ring as Amy’s wedding ring. This means that Clara’s grandmother could be Amy and River could be her aunt or something which could explain Clara and River’s telepathic link!

Has anyone bought any big finish audio dramas? Are they any good?

I thought the episode was good. All the callouts to the old Doctor’s like the Type 40 console. I would rather like a spinoff series (like torchwood) With Me and Clara (like @pedant mention) but if Jenny were to come aswell it would be rather brilliant (like @rob said). I do believe the ending was very good with the ‘run you clever boy’ that was missing from Face the Raven and the new sonic screwdriver. Overall it was a good episode with lots of potential for recurring themes and the ending was very good but in my opinion I don’t believe that it was the ending S9  deserved because of they high quality of all the episodes this series. (But hey ho I’ve only watched it once I could change my mind after a re-watch)

As soon as the impossible girl tab for guitar goes online I’m learning it 🙂

Wait it would take 2 days for each loop so:

    2190000000000000 / 2 = 1095000000000000 punches

    SirClockFace @replies

One bit that was simply brilliant which has not been picked up yet =

“I’m not scared of Hell. Hell is just heaven for bad people.”

Just to add to bonkers theorizing:

    2 billion years = 2000000000000

Lets assume each doctor lasted 24 hours

    2000000000000 x 365= 730000000000000

    Each Doctor had 3 punches

    730000000000000 x 3 =  2190000000000000

It took 730000000000000 Doctors and 2190000000000000 punches on the wall to escape!

Also @puroandson your comments about the music score in the episode have been really interesting to read 🙂

    Well…

    That was good…

I was convinced that Before the Flood was going to be the best episode in the series but now Moffat’s given me a run for my money. The confession dial kind of adds to our theory about the episodes not being in the right order. And the music was fantastic, not even that, fantastically beautiful.

    @phaseshift

“Did he say ‘The hybrid is me’ or ‘The hybrid is Me’ (meaning Ashildr).”

    @puroandson and @pedant

In reply to my earlier comment if you are getting a steel stringed acoustic you would need to change the bridge which is alot of faff so it is just easier buying a LH one on the occasion 🙂

    SirClockFace @replies

    @puroandson and @pedant

Well you got all the main left handed ones out there apart from Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath. Whenever I’ve had to create a LH guitar for someone I’ve only just swapped the strings around. If you were learning acoustic/classical guitar then Just buy a RH one and do this. If you were learning electric guitar I would not do what Hendrix did and would by a symmetrical guitar like an SG or any Ibanez because LH guitars (Even though some of them can be exactly the same as RH guitars) can often cost more. Once you’ve got yourself the electric guitar Then just swap the strings round.

And yes, definately check out the foo’s because they are simply awesome and Dave Grohl is simply one of the greatest men walking this earth 🙂

    Look familiar:

@pedant The guitar riff on the tank is simply one of the greatest scenes in any theatrical performance ever including the ‘You asked for an axe fight’ at the end!

In the beginning of S9E2 Missy tells Clara about the time when the doctor was alone with a teleport bracelet in a castle-type and in the snippet he was wearing a white shirt with a red velvet long coat. At the end of ‘Face the Raven’ the doctor was teleported to a castle-type place with only a teleport bracelet and was wearing a white shirt with a red velvet long coat.

    Also:

    @blenkinsopthebrave

The idea that the episodes happened in a different order is inspiring

Now that’s a bonkers theory what if the episodes we are seeing are not in chronological order?

Firstly: Did anyone notice Clara and the Doctor’s two shirts in the episode one before an after he phoned rigsy?

Secondly: The music score for this episode was phenomenal so hats off to whoever did that

    Lastly:

@blenkinsopthebrave But I suspect that Moffat is about to take us and series 10 into totally new and uncharted territory.

I totally agree as many said in the ‘Sleep no more’ thread you have to have experimental episodes to have great episodes (‘Love and monsters’ and ‘blink’)

What is this series was just Moffat’s experimental series?…….

I personally loved the episode and one thing that has been somewhat overlooked was Coleman’s superb acting throughout the episode. For instance when she was dying I felt like she was real and she was leaving us. This is one of the reasons why I personally don’t want her to return because it would feel too cheesy and unreal but her dying like this to me seems perfect because now she is with Danny.

Then again I’d like to refer to mine and @pedant ‘s theory on Clara not exiting the dalek in S9E2 (maybe there still is another Clara somewhere)

I looked through the tarot cards and couldn’t find any with a raven on but then again I might be mistaken so if anyone would like to correct me I would love it 🙂

@countscarlioni You’re spot of the story arc between flatline and face the raven is simply superb thank you for spotting this 🙂

@craig and @juniperfish When I look at the picture of the Tardis at the end and I see the roses on the pavement connected to the roses on the tardis I can’t but help think of flatline

@geronimo Don’t go. I’m a newbie here and I’ve only been posting since series 9 but I’ve loved it here and was quite shocked at the way you were treated. Nothing like this has happened while I was here. But it is your decision but give it a while cause it is really interesting here 🙂

Three things that I particularly enjoyed about this episode were the fact that the Doctor didn’t solve it because we’ve all gotten used to him turning up and saving the day which he couldn’t do this time. Clara also has the dust in her eyes so will eventually become a sand(wo)man…And finally I did really like the different uses of POV because like a few of you mention it gave the episode a different feel.

@purofilion Yes I agree with you on the fact that Gatiss is very clever and I know that he will make an amazing sequel.

@jimmyp and @bluesqueakpip I also enjoy the breaking of the 4th wall on this episode and in Before the Flood because it makes the viewer feel like part of the episode.

@kharis Yes it truly is one of the greatest things about this show

    SirClockFace @replies

@kharis I was also thinking about the dream state theories and the whole she-might-be-in-the-dalek-hallucinating-it-all theroy but I thought with this episode added in it felt a little too far fetched but then again Moffat might be ready for us doubting him then pulling out something completely random

    SirClockFace @replies

I rather enjoyed that episode (but then again I’ve enjoyed every one this series bar ‘The girl who died’)

    A few points:

@ozitenor If this episode were a two parter then it wouldn’t of had the same effect that it did.

A few people said that the Doctor left without knowing what was happening. The video could have been cut and edited to meet Mr Morpheus Mans plans.

I feel Mr Gattiss has made up with the not-so-good Robots of Sherwood

And finally another way they could kill off Clara!

@pedant Yes I hadn’t thought of that even though I should of because it was filmed outside the Brit’s Cafe. Plus a VE day episode could mean the return of Matt Smith’s Winston Churchill which would be a nice touch.

On sunday in Kettering, Northamptonshire, UK a doctor who scene was filmed. Sadly I was unable to be there but one of my friends was and said she saw Jenna Coleman and various 1910ish looking people.

An absolutely superb episode. Capaldi’s speech as many of you have said was phenomenal and shows off his true acting capability.

After this episode I am well and truly in love with Osgood and would have loved to see her travel with the Doctor (please let her be the next companion) but I will have to wait till her next episode

The doctor called himself ‘dr funkenstein’ much like dr frankenstein and mis monster except the doctor’s monster being the hybrid?

I really rather enjoyed the episode because it reminded me of kind of pre-return doctor who with a proper invasion and important choices. Anyway I found these points in the episode:

The Guitar: If you are a musical addict (Of which I am) then you will notice the songs the doctor plays always link into the storyline like when he see’s Missy in S9E1 he plays ‘Oh Pretty Woman’

I also really like how they’ve taken the impossible girl theme tune and expanded it alot.

The bit where the Doctor introduced himself as the President of the World and the cornel simply stated ‘Yes we know who you are’ made me laugh because of the way that was used in the end of series 8 and this being said to Harriet Jones constantly.

Once again another ‘hybrid’ mention from the doctor… I seem to be noticing a theme here

There are two Kate’s but we only see one during this episode…

And finally: did anyone notice the newspaper front page behind Osgood on the left hand side at the beginning saying: white house appoints alien am.. ssad. Sadly I could not make out the last two words but I’ve insterted a screenshot here.

But overall a very enjoyable episode 🙂

    Two points:

1: If Clara’s mother is Missy like some of you were saying and she is still trapped inside the dalek then could she be the hybrid?

2: After a discussion with my father he believes that the Doctor is Davros because of many hints including Davros saying “Am I a good man?” which is something the doctor would definitely say.

In my opinion I would rather like the guitar to stay for it gives an extra bit to the 12th like the 11th had his bow tie and the 10th had his 3d glasses. an at some point I would rather like to see him have a guitar duel with a famous guitarist from history.

Plus are we all agreed that Clara is going? Because a lot of us, me included, are finding ways for her to go now.

    #45588
    SirClockFace @replies

@kharis and @ichabod Could Clara hallucinate the deaf woman’s experience of being followed down the corridor by the axe ghost for example?

This just came to me. She could infact imagine all of this because it has happened to her. She was walking down a corridor while not being able to do something once (S8E1 when she couldn’t breath). To go with the clothes Clara could be imagining two people who she has met before (Ashildir and her mum) and simply combining them by accident in her head. Anyway that’s what I came up with.

    #45512
    SirClockFace @replies

Also linking to the other dimensions/realities theory we still have Mr Pink at the end of the universe who is Clara’s grandson but this could not be possible because Dany is dead. Hopefully in the future we will get to see them travel to a dimension/reality with Dany in it so that this headache is solved.

    #45507
    SirClockFace @replies

Going back to the Doctor looking at clara after she mentions that she is not going anywhere I came up with a theory (that has probably been said before so apologies in advance). We never see Clara leave the dalek in S9E2 but we see Capaldi say “I’m sorry” exactly like how Tennant would say it before someone would die. We see her at the end of S9E2 in the same clothing, nothing different, but with no scars from where she was mentally attached to the dalek but she does have a straight line scar above her right eyebrow which was not there when she was in the dalek. I believe that the Doctor might have left her in the dalek because he could not have rescued her and either deleted all her memories so that she became the soufflé girl or let her go insane and make this up of her own accord. Because of what the Doctor said at the end of this week’s episode I believe the Doctor would have picked her up from an earlier point in her timeline so he always knows her fate (much like with River Song).
