    @janetteb    @devilishrobby

    I’d certainly watch a retrospective ‘fill in the gaps’ episode(s) with McGann in it.

    While we’re messing with time, if I had a (real) time machine, it would be nice to go back and get McCoy and Ace for a couple of episodes (maybe written by the Moff? and with modern production values).   They had a good vibe goin…[Read more]

    @devilishrobby Apologies for the error. I did not know they were made at Elstree. I lived just down the road for a few months, at Stirling Corner. Some of the “regulars” at the Pub had worked all their lives in the studios there.

    @dentarthurdent. That is the one. The Canadian movie was not good. It doesn’t have the feel of Dr Who. McGann was…[Read more]

    @janetteb   Yes I think I had U571 in the back of my mind (was that the one where they captured the Enigma cipher machine / code books?)

    @devilishrobby    I haven’t seen the 2000 movie, but I have seen McGann in the short special episode written by Moffatt (I forget its title – was it The Night of the Doctor) and I thought he was very good…[Read more]

    @Devilishrobby    I occasionally trip over an episode of Casualty for about ten minutes (before I switch away because I don’t want to get hooked on their current storyline!) and my immediate thought is, “how do these people ever find time to, like, treat any patients?”

    Here in NZ our long-running nightly soap (which I have also never watched) is…[Read more]

    @devilishrobby    Yes but Jo Martin (and I must admit I haven’t got as far as watching that ep yet) was, I think, only an alternate Doctor in one episode?    Not the main Doctor for a whole series?

    I agree that Timelords can be any colour** or gender, however it’s one thing to state it and another thing to actually do it.   I’m completely neutral…[Read more]

    @devilishrobby I believe that both Yaz and Dan are leaving with Jodie. There was an article about Mandip Gill in the Guardian the other day which I was going to post up but got distracted, but from memory it touches on them both leaving.

    Cheers

  • @devilishrobby, @nerys, An interesting thought, but I can’t really cast Chibnall as quite that Machiavellian.  As I watched the shows slowly (ever so slowly) turn up months apart I felt that there might have been a more promising three years of stories if COVID had not reared its ugly head. So, on the one hand, Chibnall was unlucky. But on the…[Read more]

    @devilishrobby To be honest I think it would have been better if the baton had been passed back to RTD for Jodies final/regeneration episode because in part I have a feeling that Chibbers has in part been purposely steering the Who franchise to its demise.

    Interesting, I never contemplated that it could be deliberate. I’ve always felt he just…[Read more]

    @devilishrobby and @nerys and @craig

    Same sentiments here too. I have not been inspired by the more recent episodes but my love of Dr Who has not diminished, (Watching The Rebel Flesh right now) and am hoping for better days ahead with the return of RTD and a huge thank you to Craig for maintaining this site.

    I would love to see Michael Sheen or Ben Whishaw as the Doctor. Sheen would be a fun wink, since he has partnered up with David Tennant in Good Omens and Staged (and also that voiced role in “The Doctor’s Wife”). But I agree with @devilishrobby that they may go for a younger and/or lesser-known actor to take on the role, someone who does not bring…[Read more]

    @devilishrobby

    It would be too much to hope for – for me at least – for Kris to get the role. I remember DT’s Doctor wishing he’d been ‘ginger.’

    @dentarthurdent

    His absent mindedness would also be perfect for the role. However, that’s just my opinion.

    Michael Sheen would be pretty good choice too.

    @devilishrobby

    I agree that the biggest impediment would be the time commitment, particularly given the number of movie roles he is in at the moment. But, who knows; RTD has worked with him before on “A Very English Scandal”. And I have heard that RTD has very big plans for Who, and he might regard an A-lister as essential to those plans. And…[Read more]

    @devilishrobby I’m kinda thinking I’ll let it go, just cos the way it was phrased. I mean, it might be something people might be interested in.

    If people start commercial advertising on the site then that will be a different matter as I have always promised there will be no advertising on this site.

    @devilishrobby interestingly, to me, The Flux story worked, for much of the run, precisely because it was about the archiest arch following I’ve seen in a long time. He’s not as good at Moffat at stringing together independent stories into an overall story, but the less independent the stories, the better his work seemed to play out. And even with…[Read more]

    @devilishrobby Spelling is a thing for me going way back. I can blame my parents, I suppose, since they were always such perfectionists about it. It must’ve rubbed off on me.

    @miapatrick I was a newspaper reporter and freelance writer from 1981 right up through early 2020, when my freelance assignments dried up and have never resumed. So I know…[Read more]
