    @spacedmunkee

    Question 1. In his last conversation with Clara when he realises what it will take to get out, he mentions that he remembers it all – or words to that effect. Does he mean he remembers every life he has spent in the dial, or he remembers every Claricle? I still cannot make out what he is saying.

    I think it is as @puroandson has ex…[Read more]

    The person in the dial chooses their own hell/torture/purgatory

    Ooh, I like that idea!  It ties in very well with the concept of the Dials as full records of a Time Lords inner life. So it could be that, over his or her successive lifetimes, each Time Lord’s purgatory is created within their personal Dial  out of the record of th…[Read more]

    @countscarlioni  . . . in BG Who, there was a strong emphasis on tight stories. In AG Who, there is far less concern for tight stories and much more emphasis on the dramatic flourish or the thing’  . . . I’ve come to think this is particularly true for SM and that he just does not sweat what seem to him to be relatively minor plot points or even s…[Read more]

    @spacedmunkee   Question 2. What was written on the wall behind the Doctor when he first sees the veil?

    The writing on the wall was also the Doctor’s opening monologue; it’s written out just a bit up in a posting by @nerys   #48553.

    @spacedmunkee Dang!  Just looked up your link!  Good one!  Like The Great Intelligence and Clara wrapping around his timeline intersecting and the Raven casting it’s shadow and protecting at the same time.

    @lisa Agree, just not ready for another Amy and Rory or Rose moment.  Too sad.

    @Miapatrick   Yes, for a teacher, and educated person generally, I would have thought she would assume that most people would know the genesis of “Morpheus”. But as @steve-thorp points out, she also didn’t recognize the Shakespeare quote. Hm. Have to say, the Clara as hybrid theory seems increasingly certain. And as others have pointed out, the D…[Read more]

    The computers insistence on the soldier singing the “Song” . Seemed like an obscure piece to add to the story.

    Seemed a bit of a nod to GLaDOS from Portal to me. I almost expected the computer to offer him cake and a weighted storage cube.  Then try to kill him.

    @spacedmunkee I’m not sure about the Silurian thing but I can tell you that The Doctor asked her what she said “1.85 minutes ago” not 18 minutes ago.

  • @purofilion @bluesqueakpip @spacedmunkee @kharis

    I think the explanation that they have (thus far) gone with is the best : it doesn’t matter which one was killed. To answer that would be to answer the wrong question.

    @spacedmunkee  yes I thought it strange that ashildr would be so dismissive of Clara, given she helped her and was so nice to her in previous episode. Possibly she was jealous that the doctor chooses to travel with a “Mayfly” rather than her

    I think so too — she clearly had expected that Clara was long gone, being just a mayfly, so Clara’s stil…[Read more]

    Yes, the Mirror is usually disinformation central but this time it’s got attributed quotes from Moffatt, Williams etc. And a lot of the info is very specific. And Moffatt wouldn’t lie to the Press, right??

    Right?? 🙂

  • Bluesqueakpip replied to the topic On The Sofa (7)

    @Spacedmunkee

    Yes, I got caught by that one, as well. Still, at least it’s only The Mirror – who seem to be the first port of call for the ‘disinformation’ team at BBC Cardiff. 😈

    Happy Birthday, @ichabod! A mug of tea is now being drunk in your honour, with best wishes for another year of commentary both insightful and bonkers.

    @spacedmunkee     Good points all. Of course, the First Doctor was not portrayed as someone “relatable”, but someone scarier and more mysterious, with companions who were often front and centre…[Read more]

    @spacedmunkee  Is it just me or was Odin’s appearance in the sky very Pythonesque. I was half expecting him to send the Doctor on a quest to seek the Holy Grail.    Or a huge foot come stamping down . . . !

    Would this Doctor consider changing other events from his own timeline. <insert bonkers River theory here>.

    Well, now that he’s deli…[Read more]
