    @juniperfish

I agree. X-men has not always been at it’s strongest, but both first class and days of future past have hit the spot right where I needed them to. They’re funny, exciting and more or less thought through. Of course there are a few things off. I yet don’t quite understand where future Charles comes from, since Jean killed him a while back, right? But that happened in a slightly terrible movie, so maybe we should all just forget about it, it’s probably best that way.

Speaking of Jean, she and Scotty could have stayed dead if it was up to me, but that’s just my opinion.

I totally agree on Storm, though. I really try to love her, because frankly, controlling the weather is an awesome power. But apart from frying that one frog way way back and gathering some mist she’s never really doing anything at all. I’m not sure if it’s the writing for the role or if Hally Berry just doesn’t quite fit, but either way, it’s a shame.

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are perfect for their roles. Together they have an amazing chemistry and they both hold their part alone as well.

Mystique is and stays my favourite.

So.. there were loads of good things.

    – clara pretending to be the Doctor

    – UNIT showing up, especially Bowtie  she was great, I already loved her as the scarf

    – Danny getting the army

    – the way Clara hugged Cyberdanny even after she killed his emotions

    – Missy was brilliantly bananas, I do hope we’ll see some more of her, after all it wouldn’t be the first time she came back from the dead

    – finding out once and for all the Missy was the woman  in the shop

    – Danny saving the little boy

    – Missy traveling Mary Poppins style

I could go on. It had some really good stuff, but… over all I just missed a certain ‘BAZAMM!’ to it. The pace was slow, the mood was dark (ok, that was a given, but still) I just kept waiting for things to finally go … bonkers!

But of course it isn’t over yet, we still got christmas to come, and I am sooo excited!!!  I am a massiv fan of Nick Frost!!! Bring. It. On.

@otherstuff I’m with @IAmNotAFishIAmAFreeMan on this one. Don’t trust Seb. For all we know he was never really alive. Maybe he is just a droid/Interface Missy created to take care of the paperwork.

I think the Nethersphere inside that Gallifrey technoligy is a virtual place and that only the peoples consciousness is uploaded. That’s why it can look like anything. Sometimes just an office, sometimes an office with a absurdly long white corridor for Missy to look creepy. In addition, the ones who sacrificed themselfs for the Doctor (or at least while being with the Doctor) get special treatment. They’re not only greeted by Missy herself, they get an extra cosy environment too (aka the park / tea room).

@barnable fingers crossed that River comes back riding the Dinosaur ;D

@otherstuff I don’t think Clara and the Doctor are in the Nethersphere. The look at it from the outside (as the big ball hovering in the room). They are in the Cathedral (?) with the Cyberman, which could still be normal earth.

@bluesqueakpip uuhh like a personaliced setting. maybe Missy hacked Clara when she was uploaded way back with the spoonheads and is sort of remot controlling her behaviour. But the real Clara is fighting back, that’s why she has so many emotions all at the same time. some of them hers, some of them what Missy programmed ;D

(or it might just be because she’s a woman. we do that.)

@waterintheforest very nicely put. I loved the time with Donna for the same reasons and also because, since there was no love interest for her in the Doctor, she was brutally honest with him. which helped him find back onto his path.

But I’m not sure I would describe the Doctor at any point as ‘his carefree self’. It’s more of a show he puts on for the people around him and mostly (probably) for himself.

@macphisto96 @arbutus what if it is not Claras hand but one of a Clarnical. Maybe one that was on Gallifrey, saw the Doctor, didn’t know why, but knew who, so she followed out of the painting?

So here I am, barely awake, just to find that people want Sara to go?! This is outrageous! I mean, come on, what did Sara ever do wrong!?!

I’ve so far seen the episode only once an will defenitly have a rewatch before saturday (get here already!!). also i haven’t had the time to read through all of your posts, working on it, but I got impatient ;D

I really enyoed it. it had me on the edge of my sofa, simply because I can’t wait to fu**ing know everything ALREADY! which I probably won’t, not even by next week because I doubt that all loose ends will be tied toghether, at least not befor the x-mas special.

I was hoping for Missy to be a new character, but now that it’s out I excited to see the Master back. And cudoes to everyone who got the Missy, short for Misstress/Master-thing *bows head*

ok what else, Dannys dead was unexpected. his final I love you to get Clara to hang up was heart breaking and Claras grief and her therefore not-quite-thought-through-behaviour was brilliantly written and executed. brilliant acting all around (again)!

I think it’s great that we had quite a lot revelations already in the first part of the story (re the neversphere, Missy/Master ) but still there’s loads of open questions. – how did the Master get back – was it him coming out of the picture?! – what’s his plan with the cybermen – why take the dead to upgrade – why let them descide themselfs if they want to delet their emotions…

also: who is the Woman in the Shop. Surley if it was Missy she would have recognised her. especially since she’s been talking to the Doctor about the WitS only few episodes ago.

as I skipped through your posts (and still am) I made a few notes … very random … apologies, but here it goes:

@phaseshift #34474 Spot on! Dresses can be so much more compftable than pants (I hate pants!) But in the end, nothing beats jammies ;D

@thommck @jimbomcmaster The TARDIS is somehow connected to her keys of course. we’ve seen her being summend with one.  so what if it is a preprogrammed ‘thing’ that if all keys are destroyed she dies. or just somehow looses connection to the outside world and shuts down. Would the klicking still work? but of course maybe Clara just wasn’t thinking strait (which she def. wasn’t; also it was all a dream *hmmmm*)

    @robertdaller
<p style=”text-align: center;”>But my main problem, is Missy kissing the Doctor, it’s not even because of how…well… weird it is, it’s because it probably means that all of the Master’s humor, will be directed at ‘Oh i’m a woman, so i’m gonna flirt with the Doctor now.’ Or simply… ‘Oh i’m a woman now’</p>
<p style=”text-align: left;”>to be honest, I don’t see this as a big thing. If I suddenly (and probably unintentionally) changed gender, I’d be going on about it too. I don’t think it is a conscious decision (as 10 regend. into 11 he touched his hair and shouted ‘I’m a girl’, and once he talked about a Time Lord *name forgotten* who always hat the same tattoo, who on occasion was femal, so apperantly it happens. And let’s face it to some extend it would change your personality.</p>
    <p style=”text-align: left;”></p>
<p style=”text-align: left;”>Apart from the fact that regeneration does that anyway! The Doctor always turns out slightly different then his last regeneration, why wouldn’t the same happen to the Master?</p>
    <p style=”text-align: left;”>but still let’s home it doesn’t come down to ONLY that.</p>
<p style=”text-align: left;”>..ok, thoughts still running away from me, off to try and catch them. more to come (probably)</p>
    <p style=”text-align: left;”>greetings,</p>

@drben I think the Doctor made the TARDIS go into siege mode. didn’t he say something along the line of “I was able to turn on the siege mode just before the train hit. but there’s not enough power to turn it of.” ?

but I agree that the failing of the life support was due to the power loss, otherwise it’d be a pretty pointless mode

I’m not sure if this is where this post belongs, but I just wanted to say I really enjoy this forum. I stumbled upon it at the beginning of this season (series?) and it is great fun. finally a place where I can obsess over the Doctor in peace and quiet without having people trying to tie me down and shove me into a straitjacket. although one day I’ll quite possibly have to explain to my boss why I’m constantly laughing out load and spitting tea at my monitor. <shakes fist> @barnable

@badwulf I thought so too. Rigsy was well done; written and executed. I loved the way he said goodbye, so in awe of Clara and hardly even noticing the Doctor. For most, it’s the Doctor with his companions, for him it was Clara, and that bloke in the box.

I’ve slided through all the post and haven’t seen this mentioned anywhere, if I’ve missed it – my bad. But, lots of you have been discussing reflections/mirroring of Clara throughout this series. She always seemed in lots of doubt when looking at herself either in her tree-bedroom-mirror or the window etc. This time at least one reflection pretty much kicks you in the face, when she’s talking to the Doctor while looking into an incredibly white mirror (at the aunties apartment, was it?) and for once she seems VERY sure of herself. But that while she is playing the Doctor.

Could Clara turn into some sort of (long lasting) Doctor Clara, like the Doctor Donna? (yeah, probably not)

@lisa good spot. I looked out for it on the rewatch. It really does look like a Cyperman-eye .. but wha- .. what? Is Missy collecting the soldiers for upgrading?? <brain processing>

On another note: there’s been lots of complaining about too much companion / too less Doctor. For me the balance of the two plays out well and I really enjoy the character development (as many have said, Clara feels more like an actual person now with different features/strength/flaws then she did with the 11th. But whether you like the character or not is up to everyones personal opinion, but Jennas acting this series is top notch!! She delivered on ‘I’m the doctor’ and I for one believed her!

Anyway, back to work it is

I loved Clara in this one. Specially at the moment she stopped asking herself what the Doctor would do and instead asked what she would do.

Missy is really just there to tease us. I’m guessing we’ll have to wait for the big revelation in the last one.

The tini tiny TARDIS was pure awesome, even if the physics (as on the turning the whole thing with the hand from the inside) didn’t quite go by the rules.

@jimmyp some GOOD questions! If one of Claras students would die (or be lost/trapped what ever) it might just possibly break Clara. Eighter leave her broken and empty or turn her into a fury. maybe out to safe the world FROM the Doctor?

Also what would happen to the Doctor, if a child would die on his watch? People die around him all the time, but a human child, whose life – in comparisson to Doctors – has just started yesterday. What would that do to him?

If Clara would leave 12 now, the way he is, it could go so many ways. He could turn into a stalker. Like a dad sort of coming back watching over her, making sure she’s fine. Or he could turn into a compassionless teenage boy, irrationally angry at everyone and everything, some sort of attack-Doctor who goes rampaging through the universe..

@purofilion @janetteb I agree re Capaldi being the Doctor. And at some points he very much reminds me of Hartnell, i.e. his unforgiving honesty (harshly delivered). He seems more aware of being an alien than certainly 10 was, and he doesn’t mind. He’s miles faster & smarter than everyone else, and he doesn’t try to hide it with false modesty. And he certainly doesn’t give a f*** if he offends anyone by simply being himself. He’s very much the Doctor – and not a nurse. Between figuring out who he is after so many regenerations, wondering what the future might hold (with gallifrey possibly safe and sound but possibly also very much locked away for good) and saving people here and there he simply doesn’t have the time or energy to be friendly. But (as someone said above) he does it with lots of charm and wit.

And in the end: someone with bookshelves in the TARDIS control room is always rated awesome in my eyes!

@bluesqueakpip I agree. If you have a character whos (yet known) main history is being an ex-soldier, you would at least try to get your facts straight..

@devilishrobby nice theory with the twin brother. I, too, think there must be more to Danny than we know yet. But didn’t the Doctor give young Rupert a “big dream about being Dan the Soldier man”? So he would have forgotten all about the Doctor and Clara.  Another thing: when Clara mentions the name Rupert on the date he says “I haven’t used that name in years” so it does sound like it was his, he just changed it (like he said he would)

About his empathic ability: I’ve wondered about that. He knows when people are lying to him. He notices when the Doctor sensed him in the TARDIS even though he is invisible. I wonder if he could tell when the Doctor is lying?!

    @lisa Missy as Dubledore! Now that’d be a spin I didn’t expect ;D

@rob good point about Davros “you take ordinary people and you fashion them into weapons”

1 more thing: after the alien robot disappears the first time round & the whole Clara/Doctor/Danny-explanation thing happens, Clara follows Danny out and the Doctor says to himself “two (3?) days. I can do it.” in a rather uncertain tone. My question: is he talking about the alien? I think not. Initially he viewed the getting-rid-of-alien-part rather easy and boring. Yes, it got lots more complicated now with Danny destroying his plan and the Doctor being scanned by the alien and all, but still, it doesn’t seem like he’s immensely scared. I think he’s talking of fixing things with Clara. And he has until the alien problem is solved to do so because after that he won’t have any reason to stay and if he doesn’t fix things, Clara might not have any reason to fly away with him again.

So apart from being angry because Pink might not good enough for Clara, the Doctor is also scared that he actually might be and that, because of Pink, he might lose Clara as a companion. Makes me think Clara might really leave at the end of the season…

Though I wouldn’t want that. If I’d get a vote, I’d put Pink inside that blue box with the other two. Maybe the kid aswell? (-> preview to next episode: I thought I saw the kid run around in one of those sexy orange suits (spoilers? Sorry!))

oh wow you’ve already been bussy here. looking forward to reading all of this, but first my impression after 1 watch:

I liked it. Made me LOL (as they say) a few times. Again as in Deep Breath the moster of the episode was more a background noise then an adventure, but (again) I didn’t mind having more insight in the character.

What I thought was stunning is the cold and clear view Danny gets of the Doctor. After almost getting sucked into the void he recovers pretty quickly and sees the Doctor and his personality with a clearness not many have shown before. It’s a bit like Rory was, not just shocked by it all, still thinking.

Also what’s been very clear is that the Doctor had hoped for Clara to have a boyfried more similar to his own 11th version. Light, happy, funny. He’s not at all pleased to find him to be more like his 12th version. He doesn’t seem to see that Danny is very much like himself (and that’s probably why Clara fell in love with him).

What else? There where lot’s of mirrors again in this one.

Also Missy is back. Although she pretty much kicks all of our theories in the gut. Why did she save the policeman? He didn’t sacrifice himself. He was just unlucky. Obviously she doesn’t interrogate him herselfe, because he’s never met the Doctor, not even heard of him. But then why save him? Does she need ‘people’ (human/machine) as some kind of resource? What for, an army maybe?

Well, it’s all still very wibbly-wobbly in my head, so I will have to watch it again.

Oh and @jupiterfish I would love to see River with 12!!

    that’s it for now.

I’ve been away and haven’t yet had time to catch up on all the your thoughts on the episodes. But I’ve managed at least to catch up on your post reg. Time Heist.

First of all I am in need of a rewatch, but still I wanted to share some of the mummbels inside my head. I liked the episode, although I think it’s not the strongest so far this season. Listen was much more creeping up my neck then the Teller. Also as lots of you I’ve figured out the identity of the Architect about half way through. I expected Psi and Sabre (?) to popp up in Missys Heaven, but was pleasantly surprised for them to not be dead at all. To otherwise fully make up my mind, as I said, I will need a rewatch.

@spider the tank also reminded me of children of earth. I half expected vomit to come flying in the Doctors direction.

also i agree. with his 2000 years of life, and all the things he has done and seen, there must be an enormous amount of guilt in him (also even things he feels guilty about, that were not his fault/intention i.e. when he destroyed satalite 5 and left earth in a stillstand / all the oods he failed to save..) Certainly there must be more guilt in his head then in Claras. Unless she has gathered lots of guilt between her Clarnicals? Or some other thing we don’t know about yet??

@phileasf I love your theory of saving everyone. Although it be a slightly boring adventure for the future Doctor to go back an get everyone out, it makes perfect sense in regard to the Time Heist, as in: giving them teleports instead of suicide-shredders because he won’t be able to go back for them in the TARDIS. But then again, the Heist was planed by the future Doctor, surley he’d think of an escape plan that is above simply letting his accomplices die (even if he’s not on a tour-back-in-time to safe everyone).

@melville I’m not sure if you mean we never got to see what was in the vault for the Doctor, or what would have been his greatest desire, if there was something in the vault for him. Because I think there never acctually was a thing waiting for him. There were rewards in the vault for Psi and Sabre but for the Doctor and Clara the reward was saving a species from extinction. But if I missunderstood you, my bad ;D

About the ‘call me’ sign to Psi, I thinks, as has been mentioned by someone above (don’t remember who, my apologies), that it meant ‘I’ll stay in touch’ in case he wants to rob another bank rather then ‘call me’. so he woudn’t need to have the Doctors number.

@serahni  I got the same feeling about the Doctor and a family on Gallifrey (or anywhere, acutally).

When they met his DNA-daughter Jenny he told Donna (was it Donna, I think so..) that he’s been a father before.

And in the story of the empty child an acutal medical doctor sais ‘before the war I was a father and a grandfather, now I’m neither. But I’m still a doctor.’ and the 9th Doctor replies with ‘I know the feeling.’ So I always assumed he once had an acutal family. But maybe someone with more pre-war-Doctor knowlidge could clearify??

Ok I’m gonna need some help here. Is it really properly established that River’s story is over? I mean, yes, we’ve seen the beginning and the end and some of the middle. But who’s to say that some part of the middle isn’t yet to come. After all she has her own path through time and space, right? And she says to 11 she loves it when he goes all babyface. Is she talking about him not yet knowing who she is or is she talking about his actual face, which brings up the question, who’s the older face she’s used to? It can’t be 10, because she only met him once, at her end, so she hadn’t yet met him when she met 11. And it can’t be anyone before 10, because she never met any of them. Yes she does have pictures of all his faces, but still she wouldn’t be so amused by his young face, if it is the only one she has properly engaged with.. thoughts? corrections? HELP?

@thommck I like your idea of Missy as Claras mother. So far we know little about her family apart from the leaf and that her mum died (if I’m wrong, feel free to correct). But she is a very important character to Clara herself, she keeps babbling on about things her mother said. so it be fun to see Claras past become more clear/important

    Was Humpty pushed?
I like to think he was, even if the situation had quieted down before the fall it seems rather agressive to imagine the doctor pushing him after they stopped wrestling by the door. Still we all know the doctor lies! and he’s capable of killing, especially if it comes to saving the humans.

    @whisht

Fist of all: thanks for the welcoming 😀

    As to your questions:

Yeah, I think there probably are lots who have just picked it up recently. In my country, which is Switzerland, it’s very little known, at least it was to me until a few months back. I knew there was this thing called Dr. Who but that was it. Of course once I started watching, it totally took over my life, but I’m sure you know what I’m talking about ;D So in a way 9, 10 and 11 are MY Doctor (which is nice, because they are all brilliant in my eyes).

I agree, The Girl in the Fireplace is a great episode. What I was missing was a reason for it all though. Yes, of course, the ship is somehow connected to the lifeline of Mdm de Pompadour because it is named after her. But why? Where did the clockwork-robots come from? Why did they dedicate the ship to her? What was it all for? Where were they going and who had sent them on their way? Here’s hoping will find out with the 12th !

what I would like to ad:

For me the phone call from 11 was not necessairy, althoug a nice surprise, especially the flashback to the hanging phone outside the TARDIS. But for me what really got my breath going was 12th “You don’t see me. You look at me and don’t see me. Please, just see me.”

I am new to this and have not yet had time to read all of your remarks on Deep Breath but nevertheless, here are my thoughs so far:

I have watched 9, 10 and 11 in a very short amount of time, so I don’t explicitly have MY Doctor, I simply have THE Doctor. As for Capaldi I think he fits in wonderfully. He is fast and gritty and humorously dark. I love that he struggles with his regeneration more than 10 or 11, maybe also due to the fact that the Doctor was supposed to end, but got a brand new regeneration cycle. I am on his side already! Also I love that he is questioning himself and being more aware of his own change. Asking himself where his faces come from, why this face, and what kind of message he’s trying to send to himself.

    What else:

Rewatching 11 & Claras time I was hoping on finding out who the woman in the shop was, so I’m glad that got picked up again and adding to it with the newspaper add. Was it Missy? I doubt that. Could it be a future Clara? Maybe. Looking forward to finding out.

My bf immediately recognised Two Stream in Heaven, so we’ve been speculating if that was just a good location, but I guess Moffatt is thinking further than all of us, so I doubt that as well. No clue who Missy could be, but love the theories on here! But I’m still hoping she is a brand new character.

Also looking forward to deepening the Mdm. De Pompadour story, watching The Girl in the Fireplace I was a bit disappointed as to not knowing why and who.

As to the Pater Noster Gang: I love them! They’re fun, they’re pretty much as different as they can be and I look forward to seeing them again. Although not too soon, it would be a pity if they’d become a side clown to the show by popping up every other day. And I have to say, I’m very disappointed to see those “won’t you think about the children” comments because of the kiss between Vastra and Jenny. I can’t believe we’re still so last century that displaying a lesbian relationship is still considered to be a danger to our children. I mean, come on!!!

All in all I loved the opening episode, focusing on the relationships more than a deadly danger, which I thought was ok. Here and there were a few pointless laughs, the Times-throwing, the sound when Vastra put the Doctor to sleep. But they might have been for the young fans, so it shall be forgiven. That’s it for now, more thoughs rumbling around in my head, but those that later.. s
