Goes to show that Doctor Who has something for everyone. 🙂 One of the great things about Doctor Who is that it is so diverse that it appeals to so many. I loved ‘Robots of Sherwood’, and ‘Sleep no More’ I found boring. That’s good though, since a part of me wants to know that this last episode is just a matter of taste, and not a complete let down.

@lisa @purofilion good sleuthing! Yes, I agree, the themes are strong and screaming at us now. Eyes, the friend inside the enemy, pods, dream, etc. Snakes, changing shape, enemy becoming the friend.
@jphamlore I actually loved the ‘Robots of Sherwood’ so you are not alone. It was a fun, entertaining and an interesting episode, plus the characters were very endearing. People didn’t like that episode? I wonder why?

Goes with all of our “Clara in a dream state theories” and may be a hint to the long month.
I don’t like to be negative, but I would be lying if I said this episode wasn’t the slowest episode of Doctor Who I’ve ever watched, save one other in the 10th Doctor’s run. The sandmen were amusing, since their movements and look did have a touch of nostalgia with the almost laughable monster movements and B grade scary movie sci-fi look.
It was hard to watch straight through. Couldn’t help the many pauses to go get other things done. It was tedious. After last week’s episode with it’s incredible war speech and pace, it was hard not to feel a little let down. I’m trying to think of a positive. Here goes: I liked Clara’s skirt and the position the story takes against creating a humanity so obsessed with productivity that it loses it’s humanity.
I’m interested to see how other people on the Forum reacted, but wanted to write my raw impression without influence first.
15 November 2015 at 09:59 #46975Creepy thought for our bonkerizing; the surviving Dalek at the heart of the storm of Big Bang that asked for Mercy (which Daleks are not supposed to be able to do) is Clara. So River kills her. Just a creepy bonkers theory. BTW, note about River having said last time she regenerated she was a child, remember, River lies, has to lie. Clara has many running themes with Daleks, like Asylum of the Daleks, Into the Daleks and she is never in battle with them, always in them. Her other theme is being able to control things from her mind, even in aa Wi-Fi, possession, dream state or Dalek.

I just love that the Charlotte mold used to make soufflés in was referred to as “Fez-shaped” in several of my cook books. That was a particular laugh for me.
For fun: I think we should officially add another treat to Whovians parties, plus add another fun name to the cooking repertoire.
Making a red coloured soufflé in a Charlotte mold is now called a ___________?
Baked Bang? Big Tang? Crimson Horror? Ha ha! I’m terrible at naming things.

Clearly you both know your way around a kitchen. We can bonkerize and cook here on the Forum. Interesting the subtle differences from region to region. Did you know that most people in California have never heard of a Jammie Dodger or fish fingers? Also, we were as confused as the Tardis/Idris was on the second! 😉

He tries to show her that several times, his regeneration was proof of that. Just like the bootsrap paradox, what matters is the origin. If CAL is the recip e then it all makes sense.
14 November 2015 at 08:03 #46902@lisa by the time we saw Mel’s she was already extensively trained to kill the Doctor. When did this happen? It wasn’t the little girl, and when would she have had time to learn combat when she was Mels? My guess is that she could have even had more than one regeneration in-between little NY girl and Mel. Not necessarily subscribing to the River theory yet, even though that’s so Moffat, but fun to bonkerize with you on it. I have always been suspicious about the regenerations between the little girl and Mels and also how long was River gone in he TARDIS in ‘Let’s Kill Hitler” it could have been years. That will have to resolved t some point.

The cover does look futuristic or sterile. The picture of Capaldi looks more like the diner in the ‘Impossible Astronaut’ and @bluesqueakpip love the theories, and yes, let’s revisit some old theories. Why not? 🙂

13 November 2015 at 18:59 #46884Maybe because I was the first person to write the CAL & Clara theory long before ‘Name of the Doctor’ which was heavily picked up on by other bloggers after my original post, and then once again this season I was the first to notice Ashildr and Ellie Ravenswood were dressed alike, so I apologize that I can’t let it go. It could be like Sheldon Cooper describing his “mind making a baby” so I feel I have to nurture my sad little theories I originated one last time before they are all disproved by the next few episodes. Knowing Moffat my theories will be destroyed in about three weeks, so I’m going to give my “brain childern” one last hurrah here on the Forum where people who are as bonkers as me can at least enjoy my crazy. 🙂
Moffat has pretty obvious tarot, musical and mythology refrences and his names are also extremely deliberate.
(Ásvaldr) Oswald = God Power
Ashildr = God Battle Einar = Legendary Immortal Gods
Oswin = God Friend Clara = Clear and bright
Osgood = God Good Petronella = Stone
Looking at these names I see a picture forming about these character’s relationship with the Doctor and each other. Oswin is the friend (like a rock) Oswald is the power (clear and bright power, a window of power) Ashildr is an immortal battle God, oddly coming from a family named for immortal Gods as if Ashildr had a known destiny like Donna, and Oswin is the clear friend.
Now here is where I add my original theory…prepare for bonkers:
CAL. A charlotte is the dish you make a soufflé in. Abigail means Father’s Joy. Lux is a unit of illumination. The soufflé is the recipe. Maybe seeing the potential of CAL’s mind in the Library, her potential to protect and save at all costs, Missy cooked a CAL from the Charlotte and the soufflé was Clara. Maybe she was engineered to save the Doctor the way River was engineered to kill the Doctor. River is always showing up at Clara’s pivotal moments, if you subscribe to the River is Tasha Lem theory. Maybe River has a hand in it, maybe Missy, Ashildr and River text constantly, keeping their Clara plan together. Ashildr certianly had a hand in it and somehow tied up with Ellie. I think the enemy in the friend will eventually be the Knightmare Child, Ashildr finding a way to access nightmares to her advantage will eventually be part of her weaponry. Of course, we have seen that River and Clara can not be easily controlled in a dream state. The Doctor knows Clara is destined for death. The only way he would let Clara die is if she made the choice, or more probable, she is a bootstrap paradox, and somehow she was like the Beethoven story. Something I always found odd is why a little girl would picture an early earth nineties home (cord phone, type of electronics, Ren and Stimpy, etc.) if she is from the 50th century? I think it will be a big moment when River is downloaded from the Library. It will explain where they got the Clara recipe. I also think Gallifrey is right were Missy said it was, just in a pocket universe he doesn’t see or detect, or it’s on Tranzalore in a pocket.
Just for fun, from a cooking book I have:
… be poured into a chilled mold (a porcelain soufflé dish or, preferably, the fez– shaped metal mold called a charlotte).

Like in the Neverending Story the hardest challenge to pass through was the mirror, facing his true self. Gallifrey I think is exactly where Missy said it was, he just didn’t see it. Of course I’m loving the theory it’s on the Tardis; brilliant bonkers theory!

I think he just recognised the name in the crib, realised it was River and his kiss kiss gesture was just to point out that he had snogged Amy and Rory’s kid, which he finds funny.

Caught protecting the two children and back trying to manipulate the outside world through her T.V. In every version she is taking care of two of kids. She is always caught in a world were she is not clear until the end it’s not real.

Every Doctor I go through the same grief process: swear I will never like the new Doctor because no one will ever be as good as the _____ Doctor, and then being shocked that each Doctor really is amazing and brings something incredible to this Time Lord’s journey. The 12th may have given the most epic speech of all of Doctor Who. Of course, I still get chills watching Matt Smith in the ‘Rings of Akatan’ but that’s Doctor Who isn’t it? Epic, intellectual, whimsical, fierce, funny and always kind, always striving for mercy. Always a new Doctor, but the core being stays the same. Mind blowing combination of writers, tech, artists and actors. There will never be a show that is it’s equal.

I posted something about it right after the Girl who Lived, but it wasn’t really a theory people seemed to think likely since it is so obscure for new viewers. Everywhere I posted it people said it was unlikely. Of course I get what they mean, but a lot of the old story arcs and mentions have returned. Why not this one?
I think you are dead on. This is the prophecy unfolding. Your post/theory rang true to me.

I have often wondered if Charlotte Lux wasn’t chosen to be Clara after River having shared mind/hardrive space realised her brilliance, mind capacity, loyalty, and ingrained need to protect. She is the perfect candidate to save the Doctor. Maybe River helped engineer Clara to save him? Maybe a clone, or something like a clone, is made from Charlotte? Just a random idea. River and Tasha (River) seem to be at each pivotal moment of Clara’s evolution, as if they are there to see her complete her quest, her reason for creation. She was born to save the Doctor. Ashildr (Knightmare Child in my opinion) is up in the mix though, which may be the downfall of the plan.

@frobisher Thank you, it makes sense now. I agree, that has to be why the Doctor NEEDS to know, it’s like plastic Amy, he needs to see how convincing she can be. Clara is clearly not just Clara, and his glasses are not enough to be sure. He needs to trust his hearts, but is constantly redefining what makes a person who they are. The soufflé is the recipe, plus the enemy inside the friend, friend inside the enemy, plus the bootstrap paradox equals this Clara’s origins being the root and the issue without a doubt. She has been in the Dalek three times, trapped in the WiFi, trapped in the dream state, trapped in the Zygon pod, trapped in the Crimson Horror sleep, and in my opinion, trapped in the Library. There is a theme.
Also, not the first time he didn’t say things in front of Clara. She was outside the room by request with Tasha Lem (River in my opinion) in the ‘Time of the Doctor’ and the confession dial was not sent to Clara.
I want to throw out a bonkers theory, more han likely completely bonkers, but fun to throw out there: Clara gets sent back as a Dalek to the Pandorica. She’s the Dalek trying to communicate with the Doctor but instead looks like she is trying to kill him. When she asks for mercy River kills her. Now how disturbing and bonkers is that?

9 November 2015 at 03:09 #46634@carrieanne ‘A Christmas Carol’ is also one of my favourite episodes. I love your assessment of the 11th, he was brilliant as the Doctor. I’m also dreading Clara’s departure and have never understood why people didn’t like her as a companion. She has been one of my favourites. Donna! I miss her and all her humour! She was such a completely original companion. I hope the next companion is someone original. Maybe an alien, a child or a man? The wide eyed young woman companion does seem to be overplayed a tad, even though I felt all of the companions were awesome. Donna was truly one of the best, I’m looking forward to the audio versions of her and the 10th. 🙂

My guess is still in the Library. You are right, this being trapped in her head is a theme, a very recurring theme. The soufflé is the recipe.

I believe the Claricle issue was never received and the girl in the Library could possibly be a Clara still, which will have to be dealt with for the return of River. I’m glad to see people don’t see my Nightmare Child theory as too bonkers anymore. 🙂 I really do think Achildr is the Knightmare/Nightmare child. I’m more convinced then when I wrote the idea the first time. There are clues. The Mire helmet in the background seemed a visual reminder that there was another horrible war to come, another horrible choice.

9 November 2015 at 02:16 #46626I have to say I was extremely impressed by this second half. The speech the Doctor made had my crying and cheering at the same time. From now on, every time someone wants to go to war, in any kind of way, I think I might find myself suggesting they close the box, or even better, asking myself to close the box. Excellent episode. Not sure why the Doctor kept asking if Osgood was a Zygon or Human, since clearly the point from the beginning was it doesn’t matter, but besides that confusion, I really loved this episode.

If we don’t like things about the show we discuss them as opinions (which they always are) instead of facts or a call to take sides. People here are wild and interesting, and above all most are creative or downright brilliant. It’s fun, and enlightening, and if I’m going to bother taking a break from my day to day, especially when things get intense in my job right before the holidays, well, I usually come here. 🙂 We keep an open mind here, you know, like the Doctor pointed out, in other words, we like to think. 😉
Curious? Zygon or human? Favourite episode? Doctor you most relate to? Favourite Doctor? Favourite companion? Companion you most relate to? Actually, would love to hear everyone’s answer to these. 🙂

7 November 2015 at 07:04 #46482I completely forgot the 8th Doctor’s movie was set in San Francisco. It would be all too easy to pick up the story here. Unfortunately, I completely blocked out the 8th Doctor’s movie, mostly because it was terrible, and I was so excited to see it. He was brilliant in the mini-episode and the audios and that’s why I think he deserves his own show. His Doctor would make a great contrast to the children companions. Sincerely think the show would be inedible. I doubt the BBC would ever allow us to create it here in SF, and after the last movie here I wouldn’t blame them. The series could at least start here and end up in the UK like it always does. (: London is the Doctor’s favorite companion. (;
7 November 2015 at 06:50 #46481@purofilion Good points. I guess what confused me was in the script the hissing sound was supposed to happen at Clara’s school and other places we didn’t see Sarf. So what was going on in Moffat’s head, and why where some the hissing sounds not added to the actual episode? Reading the script was fascinating. What an awesome window into Moffat’s mad and genius mind.
6 November 2015 at 22:03 #46433@pixiecutlover What is the problem with the men protecting the women? The women also protect the men when they are in need. I think that’s wonderful. I’m actually getting tired of every “worthy” female characters being a take charge type. Being a take charge person is a personality trait, not a gender trait. Some people take the role of protector, some people need protecting. My son is extremely sensitive, so I protect him, but in his own way he protects me too. Reminds me to eat right, finds my keys for me, and makes sure my bed is made on a late night at work. People protect in different ways. Clara has been protecting the Doctor throughout his life, Amy didn’t really need anyone’s protection in Appalachia and Rory is a natural protector, considering he died the first time saving the Doctor. The character of Clara loves deeply and unconditionally. She would literally go to hell and back for someone she loves or have her self be shattered into a million pieces across time and space. That’s pretty protective. Just saying that there are many shades. 🙂

@ludivine Thank you! We should all get together and start a show with the original intention of Doctor Who – to show real science and history to young people. Same quality as Doctor Who, but less scary and more educational, maybe even more whimsy. Should be the unseen adventures of the 8th Doctor before he became the War Doctor. He is a fine actor who only had a chance to be the Doctor on the screen in the only Doctor Who episode/movie I actually didn’t like. The writing was horrid. I say we cast him as the 8th Doctor and find some really quirky kids to play the companions. We could be the science consultants. Hire @bluesqueakpip @ichabod @purofilion @mudlark and others on this site to write. There really are some amazing writers here. 🙂 I could help with costumes, sets and overall vision…I’m pretty good at that. I know a great group who is creating a pilot right now for a well – known book series. They are based in San Francisco though. We could be that random group on the Doctor Who Forum that started a television series. A successful spin-off that our kids will love, and so will we. Well, you never know? 😉

I also looked into being a runner and it sounds like a lot of fun. 🙂 My biggest hurdle is going to be getting a work visa. As an American I do not have a right to work in the U.K. unless I am sponsored. My talents are not grand enough or necessary enough for the BBC to ever sponsor me. I’m going to have to figure out a way around it. I’m a clever girl, so I need to just believe there is a way. 🙂

Thank you for the great ideas Yes, it’s true, I am a little bored with what I do, mostly because when you are a ballet dancer you have been doing the same thing since before you could talk. I danced professionally, taught, and now run a studio. It’s been my whole life. I care about my students dearly, but I hired great staff, some of my closest friends, and could leave it to them. California is not my cup of tea. I never really have fit in here. I’m more of a rain and tea kind of girl. I like reading, quiet, the ballet, classical music, tea, and oddly enough, I barely watch television. The only shows I like are Doctor Who and Downton Abbey. It always seemed like living in Great Britain would be the best way to experience it. Being a tourist sounds boring. I want to live in a regular town and have a real job. That’s why I am up for anything. I like being a part of things, I don’t need a special role, just a role where I could help.

@lisa Physics was my emphasis, but I teach astronomy, oddly enough. I am still chewing on your notice to the Doctor referencing himself TWICE. He never calls himself Doctor anything, so this immediately stood out to me too. Originally I dismissed it as poor character writing, but it could be just the opposite, excellent and subtle character writing so that we notice there is something not quite Doctor about the Doctor. He’s a Zygon, makes perfect sense.
@misterhoo Good bonkers theory. What about Emma Gray? Wouldn’t she have been able to sense the Zygon in her? Or am I giving her to much credit? She did admit to be wrong when her feelings got in the way.

What would you recommend for someone with good ideas, a good memory, attention to detail, and overall sense of whimsy…so my students say. (; I teach science (astronomy, with a Whovian syllabus) during the day and I run a ballet school and company at night. I oversee all aspects of production, including sets, costumes, publicity, outreach, casting, and lighting. In the beginning I did it all myself, but the school and company is so large now I only oversee most of it now. My main role now is Artistic Director and I am the keeper of the vision and choreography. My first degree is in Theater & Dance and my second in Combined Science. My super power is seeing patterns, and the very INFJ ability to see through people like glass, and I truly can think outside of the box; I’m crazy creative. I’ve been told I have Macgyver like skills and can come up with near genius fixes. With all of that in mind, what role should I be working towards at the BBC? What skills should I acquire? Any suggestions on how to get my foot in the door, especially as a lowly American? I’m willing to start at a bottom level job. I’m clearly not a writer and I could not be an actress at the BBC with my Californian accent, so it would have to be one of those support jobs no one thinks of at first. Any ideas would be awesome. (: Working for the place that created Doctor Who, and anything else worth watching, would be an absolute dream. Any and all bonkers or legitimate ideas will be greatly appreciated. (:
