I know of Benford cause I read 1 of his novels about Mars when I went  thru my  space phase.

I think if I recall it was about a rich guy paying for a expedition to Mars?

Elon Musk and Space X  stuff and  getting  a settlement on Mars – but he wrote about

doing  this years before Elon.   That’s only  why I remember it cause its a real thing now.

So something you said in your post about “if your ultimate goal is to defeat the Doctor”!

I’ve been thinking that the Monks are really like an Army. So who is the General?

Could that be the banished Rassilon?   He has the ability to establish this army AND

the computer simulations.  He’s done that before with his matrix and confession dial.

He would like to destroy the Doctor and oh btw !  The Master/Missy would be happy

to collaborate with the Doctor to defeat Rassilon if the Doctor needs the help.

I hope I haven’t missed reading a previous post where some one has already thought of this.

Also it could be as @MissRoni  suggested about the brain washing that only effects

the Doctor.   Still  thinking about it,   brainwashed and imprisoned into a Matrix sort

of situation?   Who would do such a thing?  The enemy that did it before of course.   Rassilon?

YES!  I’m thinking  that same  thing!  On the Extremis page  earlier today in my  post to Kharis  and

it definitely would be something!    I wondering how many simulations may be running

    concurrently too?

    @kharis

How many trial programs do you think the Monks are running?  Could be quite a lot.  This could

be only  1 simulation among many.  So killing yourself in 1 simulation what does that mean

in others?  Is it  the same scenario in every trial program.   Are there shadow Doctors in each

    of them ?

Also. the regeneration we see is only the beginning of it so I’ve been thinking maybe

its one of the  shadow Doctor’s in which case the next Doctor he regenerates into might

be different in various versions of the Monk’s simulation.  In any case I’m sure that

the reason we already got to see that is because there is going to be a major twist to it.

Actually  this IS  another version on a theme from Moffat for me.

Sorry but it really is. Although its still really great stuff !

That’s why (this will probably be sacrilege to admit on this site but then I’ve committed sacrilege here before)

I’m ready for a new show runner that will bring a fresh approach to the series!!!

As much as I have truly loved what Moffat has done and this final season looks  like a bang up and

awesome exit season its feeling like a repetitive theme to me.   I’m very much looking forward to

seeing him doing new stuff elsewhere. Its good to go while its still exiting.

So the Monks are trying to conquer the Earth by spreading the simulation over the “real” world .

The Doctor has to stop the program. He needs to create a patch program,  I’m going to make a wild guess

and predict that the Doctor is a better programmer .  He’ll figure out a way to “hack” the simulation.

Seems like this simulation is still in its ‘trial’ period?  This would be good news cause that means

the Doctor can create a patched file. He can try to find when the original program was installed and

uninstall it OR possibly a Doctor ‘stopper virus’?  A kind of “Claricles”  where shadow Doctors keep

showing up to obstruct the Monks?

Oh and  BTW    Missy – “I’ve just been executed ! Show  little respect!”   🙂   Love !

An alien race running a ‘matrix’  like simulation to figure out the best way to invade the Earth.

Just interested in only the Earth?

I liked the way the sonic eyeglasses  help the Doctor to interact with different versions of himself.

It felt to me  a lot like all the other versions of this concept that Moffat used in other episodes of

simulated universes like the confession dial or the Nethesphere.  Or the alternate universe of Last Xmas.

But I really do like all these different approaches on basically the same theme.

Of course its Missy in the vault -(pandorica)   But the bit that is compellingly irresistible

for me – – Is this the possibility of the Doctor/Master/Missy?  team up as Moffat’s great grand slam

end of run?!  Maybe with a few other blasts from the past thrown in?

Well will definitely re-watch this 1 soon

Totally the  best episode of this season so far!

Never been a big fan of zombie stuff but the politics in this story made it for me.  An anti-utopia

I can tell  you are quite disturbed about your election.  I was really upset about Trump getting elected

here in the states.   I  volunteered for Clinton however since I live in California I don’t think I had

much effect on the election  (my state went for HRC pretty overwhelmingly).

Here’s the thing.   Le Pen is not getting any financial support from the French banks. Its all coming

from Russia.   It was the Russians thru hacking and financial interference that helped put Trump

in the White House and he is a disastrous idiot.    So I’d say go with Macron cause at least you can  say

that you voted for  the politician that didn’t try to commit treason.  He will keep France on life support

where as Le Pen will create a lot of disruption thru a Frexit  just like what has been happening with

Brexit.  However,  the EU dream of free movement and services etc. isn’t working out as

smoothly as  anticipated.  You have lots of problems there with your unemployment and refugees

and this has created a big powder keg.  Plus  all the issues like with the Euro are also undercutting the EU.

It should have just remained a trade union.

I give lots credit to those in the UK that understood this and wanted the divorce.

It will be a lot harder for France to go for many reasons not the least of which is that your

banking system isn’t enormously solvent and you don’t have your own independent currency.

So although Macron will avert  the sudden shock of a Frexit  but it may only be an  extension ?

Good Luck !  We are all living in strange days  together

Didn’t the Doctor say he promised to watch after the crypt?  Did he make the promise to River ?

Is that why Nardole is there?  Added value as he had previously been River’s assistant so did he

help her  to trap what might be in there?

If this is the case we aren’t finished with River’s story?

Apologies if some one already thought this.

I  just don’t want to give up on River because I like her story too much.

Just wondering if the rumor is true about the 1st then how many Doctor regenerations  have

In 1 of the episodes of the detective series ‘Lewis”  there was a college professor who’s Oxford rooms  were

so grand I thought  ‘good grief Charlie Brown!” – those profs apparently get to have all kinds of special treats!

Or maybe the Doctor has extended the TARDIS field outside of the TARDIS to make it appear like the rooms

are very grand when in reality its a closet?  I wonder if he’s keeping any special Galifreyan books on his

shelves like the professor in Shada did?  Or possibly the crypt in the basement is a Shada type prison?

I found that old episode on Tardiswiki  and 1 of the notes references a comment made about  the control

room and the kitchen too so many shades of Shada?

Reading the “Fourth Turning”  a dystopian pseudo historical hypothesis about how history moves in cycles.

This is the book that  Darth Bannon has immeasurable respect for.   I  read everything.  I even have

read Breitbart.  In fact when all the immigrants started coming thru in the great migrations to Europe

I even felt they made a very justified point that I could get my head around about how that would create

some serious dysfunction and tensions through out Europe.

Still I totally believe Breitbart is  dangerous as much as scientologists or Ayn Randians or any other cult.

But !  They are just basically responding to their ideology.  Breitbart Bannon the individual  has a very

deliberate agenda and that’s a very different dynamic because now  Darth Bannon has fallen into tremendous

luck with Trump.  I’d say Bannon is an alcoholic and nothing against alcoholics but they seem to relish in some

rage, delusion and fear.   Plus all of his flawed beliefs about this Fourth Turning stuff  also coincide

with the evangelicals end times rapture stuff.  They widely supported Trump in spite of who he is.

I did some reading about that too and they have some weird interpretations about  Trump being part

    of their prophecies.

Bannon wants to be a champion for this crazy agenda and I’m worried that he is looking to create

a trigger point to start this Fourth Turning which is a bit terrifying given the power he has now.

So my reaction is to read the book.

Since there are so many fans here of sci fi  and since right now the reality is that  we appear to be

in strange global  times where all the great dystopian literature is selling out on Amazon  I thought

I’d give this book a mention.

I always liked Kris Marshall since “My Family”  and   he was in “Love Actually”.    I think he has

I’d  like to see that sort of Doctor again.  Nothing against Capaldi.  Don’t know how he plans to play

    This is not about me!

Even the Conservative Review is posting a piece about whether the republicans and Pence

are going to throw Dump “under the bus” .  Their words!  The people that work in my local Congressman’s

office are always in touch with Congressman Bera and he said he’s heard some extraordinary stuff.

Now they are delaying all of Dumps cabinet nominations in the Senate.

There seems to be growing dissent even in DC and  I have no idea if it will amount to anything.

The CIA isn’t the only agency that could want to nail him.

Dump just fired the US attorney general from the Justice Dept. tonight cause she tried to

block his travel ban.  There are lots of agencies that want to nail him now.

The Environmental Protection Agency, the Dept. of education  on down.

    But you could be right.

Still  I can assure you that all the intelligence folks and all the other departments have got it in for him.

open question for me.  In any case for me the fundamental question is if we can restore decentralized power

Id like to offer an insight as to what led up to Trump.  For those of you that actually believes that these could be original thoughts in Dump’s head I’m offering my evidence that this is not true. Trump has not only a fact free mind but probably even worse he has an “alternative facts” mind.  The most authentic thing about Dump is his inferiority complex He is a narcissistic predator who wants to feel  “Yuge”.

He is wholly owned by the Koch Bros. , Sheldon Adelson, and Robert Mercer.  These are the billionaires  that bought our presidency.  Dump is  executing the agendas of his handlers.  Koch Bros. -EPA, Adelson -Israel  and my favorite for his unshackled lack of empathy Robert Mercer.  In case you’ve never heard of this ‘precious treasure”

BTW, I  volunteer now with  Yes California aka Calexit.  Why?  Same reason  that some friends of mine in the UK

went for the Brexit.  To leave behind the Washington DC kleptocratic elites of course.  I’m anti super states

like the EU,USA, China, Russia.   IMHO they are all dangerously bad ideas.

The  evidence of that for me is in the news everyday.

I also want to say how I’m proud I am of all the marches that took place this past Saturday.

I took part in the Sacramento march and I think Dump got the message  🙂   Unfortunately

Dump is also  about vengeance cause he’s so unstable and probably felt threatened by these marches

so I also expect he’ll do something to compromise our collective sense of security.

Workers rights did NOT originate from the EU.  In fact the EU has limited the ability for unions to negotiate

for better pay and conditions.  Look at what is happening in Greece !  In the UK health and safety is much

stronger than in the EU.  Also, if workers rights clash with the 4 freedoms then its all the bosses that win!

The Schengen system is working out so well that they have completely suspended it.  The people I know

did NOT vote for Brexit because of immigration issues. I’m sure some others did.  They voted because

of the economic catastrophe that is the EU !   Look sweetie, I am well aware that most on this forum

are put out over leaving the EU.

For me it comes down to this.

I still view the EU as having morphed into a tremendously risky project that has punished a lot of countries

thru oppressive economics and stupid immigration decisions.  Many more people are beginning to not feel

the same stake in the EU as they once did and to me it  looks  like a  house of cards now for a lot of  EU countries.

Its just too much   of very poor policy making. The way things are going the UK will have some very strong

bargaining chips with the EU because of the many trade deals with other countries. This is not an  if! The UK

also has the use of the security component. Teresa May seems extremely capable and has the intention to take

the UK out of the EU.  The Germans already see the writing on the wall. They are laying off thousands of folks

in large part cause  they know that they wont be selling all those cars into the UK.  Look up the unemployment

figures of the different EU countries.  Look at how all these countries are cutting back on services for their

domestic populations because they don’t have the funds.

The UK still  has a very strong vibrant economy and has this ‘opportunity’ called a Brexit.  That’s my assessment

and its the same as all the folks I know in the UK.  The EU started out as a really good idea.  So did the USA.

Times and events are changing both.

Excellent questions!   First I don’t get my news from Murdoch.  As for Sunderland they aren’t losing any jobs.

In fact Honda and Nissan are expanding their manufacturing presence in the UK.  That was in the UK news.

The citizens of the UK are protected by the Human Rights Act. That is not EU law.  Basic freedoms

will not change for the British.  However here in the USA we have an opening on our Supreme Court

that now will get filled by a President Trump.   This can have far reaching and very big implications

for many of our freedoms by being either disputed and possibly relinquished based on future court decisions.

    Examples are here :

    https://www.wired.com/2016/10/presidential-election-will-actually-affect-supreme-court/

As I said previously, all the folks in the UK that I know are intelligent professional people !

They voted for Brexit for economic reasons.  They all read European news and saw all the cracks

in the EU system.  Too many bailouts, insolvent banks,  negative interest rates, bad decisions

made on the Schengen Agreement, over reaching regulations having the biggest effects on small

business but not the corporations, etc. BTW, the UK has stronger workers rights than the EU.  Now

when you read the EU news there is a growing consensus that the EU has got to change the risky way

it operates or it will not continue to exist.   Its ALL about economics. In the UK it was wrong IMHO to

stigmatize the ‘leavers’  for their beliefs.  They are basically saying stop draining the UK treasury

to keep the EU on life support. Also 2 more big issues are that  unemployment in the EU is outrageous

now and they cant afford to cover all the peoples pensions.

The “leavers’ that I know don’t feel its justified to keep paying out to a broken and broke system.

Exactly right  about Pence.   He will run the government with the repugnant-cans.  Trump

has already said as much.   He admitted yesterday that he finally looked up online

to check out what Obamacare is really about and he admitted ” it has really good stuff” !

The problem is that the people voted with their emotional guts instead of with their

critical thinking skills.   They are STILL trying to conflate this with Brexit.   I will surely

admit that this is a populist wave and it will get much worse for the EU with out a doubt!

But the big difference is that the UK wasn’t voting for a socially regressive govt.   They

wont have to worry about their basic freedoms as UK citizens.  They know the government

WILL try to be relatively fair minded. They  just wanted out of the EU.  Our election outcome

was way more toxic and malevolent.  I’m pretty sure that we just gave power to fascists.

Obama has said that he will be an activist again after he leaves the presidency.  I’ll be with him

fighting the fascism!  This was NOT really about anti-globalism, well not for me and tbh  the whole

country didn’t vote for trump because of that.   Michael Moore said it best “They voted against

    I totally agree with you.

But the question is if HRC would have seen victory if  Sanders was her running mate?

I still think Sanders as the VP would have offset her problem with the  “Bernies”  AND

it would have created an interesting balance of talents too.  Plus Bernie has an ability

to reach people on the stump in ways that HRC is deficient. I believe this was what lost

    her the election.

All the traditional republicans that crossed party lines to vote for her

(and there were a lot)  still would have done so because they were so anti- Trump.

Tim Kaine  was her choice to  bring along that demographic and it was a big mistake IMHO.

We all knew over here she would run for President again and tbh  she actually had lots

of fans that admired her. Even among other potential  candidates!  This was a big reason why

the democratic  primary field didn’t have 17 potential candidates like the republican side did.

Unfortunately it was like a coronation even though the woman is smart and competent and capable.

Americans think they are a great nation for the same reasons that a dishonest businessman thinks he’ll

make a great president.   Its a pathology that I think you will find to varying degrees in many countries.

But its also a way of reinforcing a belief system by repeating it.  Its also about national identity because

the USA is made up of so many different peoples form so many different places that its a way to bring

us all together into a coalition.

About your question on China I really think Trump is going to abandon to a large degree our presence

Best wishes to you and Mum!

I  don’t really think Hillary did enough to get the largest coalition she could have.  I strongly

believe she made a critical mistake when she didn’t make Bernie Sanders her Vice President.

She lost a  very big chunk of the Bernie coalition and they all took the low road and voted for

Trump because they didn’t care if they blew up the system.  Susan Sarandon was very vocal

about these pervasive feelings.  These were all the independent and very progressive left leaning

Bernie followers!  This is what made the red states redder.  These are the same folks that voted for Obama.

Twice!   Its why  Hillary lost the electoral college although she actually won the popular vote.  In other words

more people actually voted for her!  It was actually not one of our largest turnouts either.

Probably due to that unlikeability thing about both of them which  I feel particularly scorched because I never

    found Hillary unlikeable!

Today an earthquake happened on the planet and there will be serious ripples.   I am deeply deeply

saddened beyond words.  Last June I became a volunteer for the Democratic party The reason was

that I saw the field of Republicans and it worried me.  I wanted to see some one competent become

President. I didn’t care if it was Bernie or Hillary.  On June 19th  the GOP gave the nomination to

a racist fascist.  In my guts I knew that red state America felt angry  but it was much worse

because we all would get Trump! He is unacceptable to me. His presidency will be unacceptable.

A few days later the UK voted for Brexit.   I have many good friends  living in the UK and  they

all voted for Brexit and I understood why.  They didn’t want to send their tax dollars to  a central

bureaucracy that they felt didn’t represent them and they didn’t like all the “over reaching regulations”.

If blue state California where I live could do a similar Brexit from the rest of the states I would support that.

Trump and the GOP will roll back laws and regulations that will effect  all Americans. Also, I do NOT want

to send my tax dollars to support  a racist fascist President!  I feel the same way as all the Brexiteers.

I believe in Brexits!   I fear that American democracy may go into a crisis. If I was British I would

totally support Teresa May getting the best Brexit deal and I would own the Brexit. I would participate

in the November 23 protest march.  Yesterday will not be the same as how everything will be in weeks

and years to come.  These ripple effects will be  seriously felt thru the whole world including Europe

and the EU. The Brexiteers saw the EU the same as I now feel about Washington DC and  I am very

    depressed today.

I believe this planet really needs a Doctor!

I know but I didn’t get thru that vid.  I’ve had so much stuff sent to me in the past few days

that all I’ve done is skim thru it.   🙁    I have lots of reading and vids to catch up on but I promise

get to it. All I’ve done is basically watch a few minutes of some of the videos in my mail.  Although  I

have to go out tonight to a dinner commitment.   Over the weekend however I watched a Irish political

discussion vid on the EU and Brexit.   I ‘ll share that with you for now.

The first 5 minutes doesn’t have much discussion.

Everyone in the EU is allowed opinions but the council makes the law.

This is an EU lawyer.  Of course he represents the EU.   But it IS the council that makes the

big decisions.  I think he may have been a tad disingenuous about what he says about the EU.

Sorry 🙁  Still think the only people that support the EU have vested interests in it  and that  the EU

    is extremely corporatist.

Don’t forget that the UK  already has bilateral agreements with  other countries including the

European ones in addition to the EU treaties.  Also they wont have to follow the EU codes anymore

which will be very good.   The Brexit vote was just the first step and they have plenty of time.

A minimum of 2 years before the divorce.  There has to be hundreds  of examples of every kind of treaty

imaginable.   I have no doubt that the UK has scholars that will be able to provide a framework

on how to proceed. Once the new PM and other cabinet changes happen the process will begin.

Lots of corporations have already dropped hints that there will be an orderly change to single

market status. Osborne wants to cut corporate  taxes. There will be trips to China and India etc.

Basically I think all the anxiety is over blown.  I think the EU will even end up compromising

on free movement.  They will get to the finish line and be much better off when they arrive there.

Sorry I didn’t get back with you sooner.  Yesterday was the 4th of July holiday and I was holiday making

and not checking messages and mail.

So I agree with you that @bluesqueakpip post the other day was another brilliant one.  But I have to suggest

a few things here.   First of all I believe the media blaming the Brexitors for voting as they did based on

immigration and free travel was,  I think,  extremely disingenuous.  That’s not how they got to 52%.

There were many Doctor Debbies, nurse Debbies, teacher Debbies,  Small business Debbies, etc….

that all voted because of the squeeze on services and over reaching regulation.  They followed

the dots to the trade debt.  The UK has this trade debt because they import more then they export.  This

means that when you have this sort of situation you have to either pay it off or pay the interest on it.

In order to pay the interest you need to take funds from wherever you can get them.  They took them

from services.  Its called debt austerity.  The reason the have this trade imbalance is because they

belong to the EU and the EU makes the rules, regulations and laws about this stuff.  Cameron couldn’t

do anything about it. He was completely ineffective.  So lots of people suffering from austerity

conditions one way or another (including Education and the NHS) were getting really mad.  There

wasn’t anything they could do about it except this protest vote.  You see you cant vote the bureaucrats

in the EU out of office the way you can in a real democracy.  Because they aren’t real elected officials.

They are installed into those positions thru corporate influence.  These are all facts. Google it.

They control how all the trade works. They aren’t interested in how the people feel. The interest is all about

corporate profits.  The UK is limited by the EU in how much and who they can trade with.  This is wrong!

So if you follow the dots it all leads back to Brussels. That is why the Brexit campaign showed the big poster

about funding of the NHS.  The Brexitors  understood that message.  It was about the squeeze to all  services.

Then there are the huge sums of money that the UK has to pay into the union for which they aren’t getting

terribly good return on but again, because  of the EU’s creative bookkeeping tactics they try to make it look

like all the grants were terrific deals.  Now where is all this money going?  Well some very  large chunks of it

went to bail out France a few years ago, then Greece, recently it was Portugal, soon it maybe Italy. This

should in itself set off alarms.  The ECB is broke. They are charging negative interest rates on bank deposits

and bonds.  So instead of being bled out of  in many cases life savings the Europeans are putting their money

into the stock markets like the DAX, FTSE,  and NY exchanges which to them are like flights to safety and the

opportunity to earn some sort of dividend.  This is a wrong neo-liberal macro economic policy.   The EU is

in debt bondage.  They cant expand.   Why does any one think this is good?   The Brexitors want

to take back control.    I understand this attitude.  The economy will continue to be stacked against

them if they stick with the EU.   Do you want to continue to support this unelected undemocratic

bureaucracy or do you want to support national health and education and other social spending?

This is what they were thinking.

The last thing I will say is that I found it very interesting that so many people googled what the EU

was after the vote.  They probably were from everywhere in the world but I have a hunch that it

wasn’t a lot of brexitors doing that.  They already had the EU all figured out.  But tbh its still

troubling to think that so many people that could be influenced by the EU don’t understand it very well

let alone the EU’s  trade policies and ramifications.  But it reinforced my notion that all the Doctor Debbies

and nurse Debbies etc.  knew exactly what they were protesting against.

Hi  — My friend the Oncologist lives in the midlands of the UK.  The floods she is referring

to are not the floods they had in Somerset. There were lots of floods in the midlands and Cumbia

and other spots in the north that  got hit really hard too and they just want their rivers dredged.

Yes Debbie is a brexiter.  Her point is that the remainers don’t entirely get why the vote went

the way it did. The EU has made all sorts of little impositions that the UK government had done

nothing to alleviate  and it when the election occurred it was a classic case of we are mad as hell

and we aren’t going to take it anymore.

The USA is a mixed economy.   Some of pretty much everything.  The UK economy used to also

be a lot more diverse.   Things began to change when it joined the EU.  But it would be a lot

more appropriate for you to put the question as to why it changed to the English forumers.

Of course the UK used to be very industrialized.  You can probably google some good opinion

    pieces about that too.

Gosh I don’t think you can be too much an idiot and become an Oncologist?  I think you

are just having a really hard time adjusting to your new reality.   You are right in your

example about the USA port import/export model.  So what ? the EU is doing the same

exact manipulation with the UK and who knows who else.  How is this helpful?

    @xad4   Yes and thank you.

Well I did a googling on any connection between the EU environmental policies and UK

flooding and found several posts but here are 2

    https://notalotofpeopleknowthat.wordpress.com/2015/12/26/what-the-authorities-wont-tell-you-about-the-

    floods/

I guess this is another  issue where  Brexiters might feel there is EU over reaching.

Lots of folks have had some very bad experiences with the flooding and tbh with global warming

I have a hunch there will lots more.
