@jimthefish I agree on the meh bit. Also feels off for the Doctor to make his infomation memory-proof. To use something from the silence is just odd.
@Clara-issue I think she should at least get along now. Mabe the two of them even teaming up? Although River must have been able to talk to her. In LKH she said “she [the TARDIS] showed me how [to fly her]. She taught me!”
26 September 2013 at 19:40 #17588THANKS @wolfweed ! I wish Moffat could have done something more meaningful though. Love to see them both nevertheless
13 September 2013 at 21:52 #17220Hi folks!
Are there any news on the screening of the 50th Anniversary special? Exact times? How long can one see it in cinemas?
Oh, and, it will be screened, won’t it? So it should be available on the iplayer AND in cinemas?!?! I have a feeling they did not think that one through…?Timeloop
5 August 2013 at 23:54 #155075 August 2013 at 21:01 #15498@Bluesqueakpip Yes, true. For a moment I wanted to argue there that Queen can never be played by a man as it would no longer be Queen but they are doing the same job, so yes.
I really love his line. Puts everything in proportion.
5 August 2013 at 20:36 #15496You all are right about the quality of the reveal. Hope they dont make this the template as most of you said.
I totally cracked up with Fat (He wants to be called that 😉 ) : ” I’d like to go on record; I think it is time that the queen was played by a man.”
I will cling to the last episodes with Matt in place.
5 August 2013 at 18:50 #15489My first reaction to the new Doctor before I read all you comments: I dont like him.
I first saw him on my way to work this morning in the Metro today though, because I totally forgot about the reveal this weekend as I dont watch TV regularly. I have never seen him before and maybe I am supposed to not like him since Matt is my Doctor. But I am very willing to be swayed. Will start catching up now.
2 August 2013 at 19:26 #148772 August 2013 at 13:57 #14841@htpbdet Is it very hard to judge something you cannot see. Where did you see them? Does the BBC need to reveal them or something? I’d like to form an opinion.
2 August 2013 at 13:32 #148312 August 2013 at 13:29 #14830@htpbdet “But, alas, one aspect of your source’s report does ring in accord with what my insiders indicate: Danny Cohen has said that unless Who gets better figures next year than it has over the last three, Season 8 will be the end.”
I would like to see those figures. How exactly is DW doing?
31 July 2013 at 23:02 #14710This is really funny =D There are also versions of 10&11 around
28 July 2013 at 10:17 #14542@jimthefish Are you telling me all of those scenes were never actually filmed but put together by some genius?!
25 July 2013 at 22:15 #14401@Bluesqueakpip Thanks for the hint and too bad =( Its fun to walk in places they have been.
Though you all might enjoy the grafic I found about the Doctors life up to season 6 NewWho.
http://www.cabletv.com/doctor-who-timeline
Although most of you sure know all that stuff by heart.
25 July 2013 at 22:01 #1440020 July 2013 at 14:14 #14201Might be rooftop café next to Saint Paul’s Cathedral… Which would be Madison. I guess I have to find out 😉
20 July 2013 at 14:08 #14200Hi guys ^^
This might seem a bit random but I want to go to a rooftopbar here in London and I remembered the Cafe in TBOSJ…. Does anyone know where that was or how it is called?
20 July 2013 at 13:52 #1419929 June 2013 at 20:47 #13007@Bluesqueakpip “Time travel implies a Predestination Paradox. Every action is fixed. Do we have free will? Only as long as we don’t know our future; only as long as we can freely choose to take the action that we always did take. ”
I am with you on that one. The doctor is in a golden cage with his actions both ways. A) he did not change the future/history because he knew he did not (River SitL/FotD) or B) he acted unknowingly in exact the same way he always does. It is like he is in a rollercoster – just in for the ride. The only thing that really makes a difference to a timeline would be the start. The ‘factory setting’ – you are always just reacting as time progresses in a way that you would have done based on your interests and moral standards, changing with events as you have always done, what you have always done.
But then again there is this other model where you can change your future based on your history as Amy did in the two streams facility. But to me the second one is included in the first one.I think Charlie sums it up quite nicely:
Imagine you could alter every moment you would not like. Imagine everybody could always do that. Even the “bad guys”. The whole of humanity would be spoilt brats. And we would never achieve something as time was everchanging because if you change your past you change those of the people around you. Because you are no longer the person you were.
23 June 2013 at 19:53 #12844Welcome to everyone new! Great place for Doctor Who! The only one I have ever been to, but still….
11 June 2013 at 21:17 #12143What was it?
11 June 2013 at 21:15 #12142I think it was @phaseshift who said it: black smoke? Hilarious! You now go on and compare the Doctor with the Pope? I don’t care and but a few people might be offended (you never know).
@craignixon True! IF some information has leaked in some way again (!) They should try and start finding the traitor (who violates the “keep it silent” part of their contract for sure – “Silence must fall when the question is asked” [Who is the next Doctor]) by giving valuable (maybe even wrong but highly newsworthy) to people with some time between the anoucements and then just narrow it down. Poor Moffat. I feeling a bit sorry for him.
It was relatively easy to catch up – has the traffic of the forum died down a bit?
8 June 2013 at 23:03 #12072“We’ll have a special video from Matt – coming soon!” Still no video from Matt at the BBC about his leave. Wonder when that will be here. (just a quick peek in – will be commenting more again next week)
6 June 2013 at 00:34 #11924@craig Thanks for making that clear. I did it before and it just added the @ in blue, but thats not really important. Good to know. Thanks for all the care mods
5 June 2013 at 23:04 #11910@scaryb Yeah, but that is not the case for new joiners, right? I read somethere in here that Craig turned that option off and @pedant is the only one who still can do that.

5 June 2013 at 00:06 #11862In some of my posts the @ dont turn blue after posting – I assume the linking is not working? Does anyone know why? I did copy and paste the names as always….
5 June 2013 at 00:03 #11861@ardaraith I’m with you on the ‘Matt is my Doctor’ boat [though you never know in advance if that could change. Matt substituted Baker for someone in this forum]
@Juniperfish totally agree with you on your points to a female Doctor.
@Bluesqueakpip I see what you did there @got stuck
@everyone. When it first came up I felt like a women would not fit in the role of the Doctor. Just because I never really thought about it.
The more I think about it, the more natural it seems to me. Everybody who claims that it would ruin the show is just shallow – a brilliant actor is a brilliant actor (male or female). I dont see a problem with the TARDIS either, as their connection is way to deep. Who really thinks a different gender could change that?
In RL there are also married couples around in which one person feels like a change of gender is nessecary – and some of those relationships stay together. I for one always imagined the DW crowd to be open-minded and tolerant to different concepts. Wouldnt it be kind of fun to see old friends react to a new form of gender? Would they even change their behaviour? Would the Doctor adress that (now there might be a modern role model for boys and girls)? I would like to see it. This is as much feministic as a male Doctor is dominat, masculinistic (does that word exist in english yet?) which is frankly nonsense? Would we have this discussion the other way around?
I’d say each regeneration is a 50/50 chance and the Doctor had a very lucky strike. Simple stochastic.
BUT SM would have to make her a little more down to earth. As much as he likes stong women there is a limit and some viewers reached it at LKH (I could never dislike anything with River in it); so he knows his boundaries. The only think I would find too weird is JLC in that role now she is established as a companion. On a different topic: The new Doctor (whoever that might be) should be very different from Matt or it would be just a copycat and I would definitly prefer the original. I sometimes still feel like that with JLC – now and again she just delivers a line the same way Amy would have done it – which constantly reminded me of her throughout the second half of the season.
oh, @craig : you are really very patient with new trolls but you have to consider they might never join us here again as they expected to be deleted. That way we could end up with more and more nominal members [not really relevant now, but maybe in the future…]
3 June 2013 at 23:41 #11799@phaseshift Lovely video. Many thanks for that!
3 June 2013 at 23:30 #11797@ardaraith I will miss him as well :'( Best to cheer up though =) The only constant in Doctor Who is change (saw that somewhere). You got that forum here as support^^
3 June 2013 at 23:25 #11795@janetteb I would love that as well!! And the direct response they would get from the audience.
” @blenkinsopthebrave, that is an inspired idea. I like it a lot. Those multiple regen’s could include female, ginger, very old, very young, Ben Whishaw, Ayaode, John Noble, Thewlis etc. (Loving most of the suggestions.) Moffat has toyed with multiple regenerations before, in the Comic Relief, The Curse of Fatal Death. Then at the end of the year, with his filming in the U.S. done with Matt can return to the role he was born for. (Well one can dream..)
Cheers
Janette”
Incidentally, I searched for his tweets on Twitter and if you do that, be careful as there’s obviously a gay porn actor with the same name. Not only did I see the tweets about Doctor Who, I saw a few pictures that I wasn’t expecting..
Apologies for laughing at your misfortune, but that made me roar.”
Me too! What a funny image of someone stumbling across that by accident!
I dont buy the idea of the season without the Doctor though =/ @thommck
2 June 2013 at 14:02 #11658@Bluesqueakpip Totally with you ^^. And I dont think we are alone on this one (even outside this forum)
2 June 2013 at 13:45 #11654@wolfweed He DID say something like that, didn’t he?#
“In his spare time, Mr Levine generously divulges the exact nature and number of their Christmas presents to small children. He will also give advance notice of any surprise birthday parties that might be in your immediate future.”
Love it! Did you come up with it or did you nick it somewhere?
2 June 2013 at 13:06 #11645@pedant Curious that quite a bunch of people knew about it and Ian was the only one who felt the urge to ruin it.
2 June 2013 at 12:04 #116322 June 2013 at 11:41 #11627@scaryb I think they would have announced it differently. I dont think this was planned.
2 June 2013 at 11:18 #11620@scaryb Yeah I was not too serious about that. But of of them stayed 3 years, right?
Not my first regeneration to watch but a regeneration I would have hoped to be later rather than sooner. Turns out the speculation that he would not stay much longer because he has reached everything he could reach is sadly true.
2 June 2013 at 10:56 #11616BTW What a fiasco that major slips happened twice. There has been some speculation the sending of the DVD’s has been calculated risk. But this news would ususally have poped after the 50th….. They have been so good hiding things on other occasions. Imagine the day of the person who made the mistake… Personal time with SM for sure.
2 June 2013 at 01:06 #11564From the BBC “We’ll have exclusive quotes from Jenna on this site tomorrow and a special video from Matt – coming soon!”
2 June 2013 at 00:54 #11562First River – now this, a low blow for me that is. But I guess people have felt like this about other Doctors before… ='( *trying to be positive* Well – I for one will appreciate the left episodes even more than I would have. And we can assume the Doctor only can get both of them out of the time-stream by sacrificing himself….?
How long did Matt stay? 3 years? Same as David then? Is that the new rule? *wonky on the numbers*2 June 2013 at 00:45 #11559NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO?!?!?!? What?!?! Please dont leave us, Matt =( I really thought I heard several accounts saying he said yes to a season eight?
That really came out of the blue for me. I thought he got better and better and better with the role and was really looking forward to more =((
1 June 2013 at 10:36 #11501@Peargrins @Brynwe @PennyInTheAir (sorry it is a bit late in your case, right?) Hello and welcome!@Peargrins Love your picture =) !
@PennyInTheAir Nice what you did with the leaf there!
1 June 2013 at 10:22 #11500@bluesqueakpip @curvedspace @MTGradwell @JimTheFish
Thank you for your explanation everybody! As I said I have never heard of it in any other context before so special thanks to @bluesqueakpip for the history lesson!
Just wanted to make clear I never wanted to get into any debate if there is a canon or not (of which there is non I suppose).@theseniletardis Welcome!
31 May 2013 at 01:00 #11414Can someone here explain in simple words what canon stands for? I found several things but nothing seems to fit really. I can either mean rule or a lot of stuff related to church such as canon law or canon (list of saints?!?) as well as a special kind of song canon (several people singing the same lines but not in sync-someone is always starting while another one is ending and another one is in the middle of the song…) makes me think of cannons as well ^^” and I am honestly confused.
What is a canon and what does it not have to to do with DW?Thanks in advance!
[P.S.: Oh and honestly the first thing that came to my mind were cameras. A name of a camera manufacturer…. Canon – which is only a name with no meaning to my knowledge. But I am eager o learn.]
31 May 2013 at 00:09 #11412Maybe we wont see anything at all? Maybe we will just see them stepping out to the console room again… No explanation at all? That would be …. something that fits into DW, damn it.
I think that flicking light was the Doctor stepping into this particular part on his time-stream. Just as in JttCotT with Clara…. And that leaf was the landing signal [tAtM ; tEoT] he needed to find her within his time-stream.
[@scaryb *blush* *This way we focus on what will be and not what has been. Sry for that. Not as linear as you think. Linear in relation to the time-stream of the Doctor. His future can be in past, present, and future …. so not quite linear.]
30 May 2013 at 21:00 #1139530 May 2013 at 20:57 #11394Meh, kind of a let-down.
30 May 2013 at 20:54 #11393Woah, so quiet in here ö-ö? So maybe a question to get your brains working (My last in tNotD might be better in here):
One thing we could come up with is how Moffat plans to get them out. I feel like that is in our reach to crack open. You have seen and analysed his work for so long now. What do you think? Ready? Go!
This way we focus on what will be and not was has been.
30 May 2013 at 20:49 #1139130 May 2013 at 15:08 #11373Omg, They really dive into it, but I love it ! What can we expect?
