    Hey guys,

many things have been already said. that’s what happens if you take your time.

Let’s see if I can add some new aspects:

According to the last episode we saw the Doctor was absolutely bluffing in Nightmare in Silver. He could have not got rid of Mr. Clever. (Maybe that is what he kept hidden together with Hurt) with a regeneration.

Re- naked in the church. This does make perfect sense to me. Vanity is a sin and any cloths you might be wearing would set you apart. And everybody is the same so you go naked to church? Though I do not like religion getting mixed up in TV-shows for children.

Re- lying. He could have just talked about any plan he had. Like the plan to talk to Clara next.  He was not very specific and that is the way out. Otherwise he could use the TARDIS as a psychic connection to make the recipient hear what he want to hear. There are only a handful of people in Christmas.

@geoffers That’s how I got here in the first place. He is talking about his space ship, the TARDIS.

I loved that they used music from the Rings of Akhaten. This speech really sums up what the Doctor is. My money is on 12 with amnesia. But Moffat kinda did that in a special leading up to the Day of the Doctor. Where 11 forgets his life and has his diary to fresh up his memory?

@d12345 Not every episode has to appeal to you, you know. Don’t spoil it for those who loved it. Try to respect/tolerate their opinions as they do yours . It is not one of my favorites but I can understand why they could love it like @purofilion . I loved the Day of the Doctor like that. Feel free to move on to things that appeal more to you. You should not spend time on things you don’t really like in general. Otherwise feel free to take part again.

In fact, I might have enjoyed it less because I got a bit too spoilt in Spoilers. I saw a Dalek picture of Lem and was waiting for it to happen. I wish big spoilers could be hidden in a fold out. Because most stuff in Spoilers is quite okay to look at.

@juniperfish You remembered me of a different conversation we had  here on the forum before. That fans just fill the gaps with stuff that was not intended to be there to start with. I don’t mean that in a bad way, it just made me smile. Your post was very well thought out.

The shock-wave of the regeneration reminded me of a bomb. The center of the “explosion” must have been 3-4 meters in diameter.

    Cheers,

    Timeloop

@phaseshift @bluesqueakpip @jimthefish Isn’t “boring and unintersting” an opinion? Not very elaborate, but still. You cannot always explain it. I think he/she might have prefered explosions and stunts.

    Hi all,

this episode did not grab me as much as the day of the Doctor did. I suppose since Doctor Who is for a wide range of people it is someone else’s turn to find it absolutely splendid. (I’m not saying it was bad at all).

Although 11 is my Doctor I did not feel compelled to bawl my eyes out. I only teared up once.

BUT I tried to stay on top of all the new information. The Question and the need for Trenzalor, the Silence and their core belief, the destiny trap, soaked in the blood of millions, the greatest fear… all very coherent and neatly tied up. He should have included the cracks again somewhere on the way.

The Ponds were more of a family than Clara ever was. That stuck with me. Because Clara did not even know rule number one.

Oh Moffat. First you keep on rambling about never forgetting and then you make up some long-term-memory-amnesia? Odd.

I guess I don’t like it as much because right now there really is not a big mistery to solve. We just have to wait for over half a year with nothing to ponder on. A nearly clean slate.

    Cheers,

I am feeling guilty to bring it up after those posts, but they gave me the idea (don’t worry, not asking for money or anything like that). So really it’s @whisht ‘s fault 😛

But it is charity related. You can make money for charities without changing any of your habits. This add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-for-a-cause/ makes money out of tabs. So the more tabs you have open the more money you get for a good cause without doing anything else.

You can also decide how the money (you did not give) should be spend by voting on the videos of this site: http://www.projectforawesome.com/ The ten most popular get the split of the final sum. Each comment you make on one of the videos is worth a penny and is paid by John Green for you.

The Project for Awesome’s goal is to decrease worldsuck.

I thought as lots of us have a similar mind-set you might like the idea behind it.

Anyways, cheers, see you on Friday,

@purofilion See, that’s a good example for context that @scaryb pointed out. One would usually think the sky is an easy one, right? But there are actually options:

    a) Good old @phaseshift is making a gesture that was used in old Greece supposedly directed to Gods who supposedly lived in heaven, in the general direction of the sky.

    b) Having lived in London for eight months last year, I do know that sky is also an Internet provider over there.

Knowledge is power. Context is vital. Chin up and keep a stiff upper lip (such a weird saying I also know from that time).

All I can say is please do try to understand @PhaseShifts point of view. As a mod he had to deal with the situation. You picking up the subject when it had calmed down certainly can provoke anyone to come across as a bit harsh.

So you simply were moving on a bit of thin ice. @phaseshift most certainly did not try to offend you. Don’t let this relationship “turn sour”. Instead, take a step back and cast a second look at it. Be compassionate and thoughtful and please stay =)

I think it might be funny to do a check up of our predictions. They were forgotten so quickly after the the movie and we spend so much time on figuring them out.

I see in my crystal ball that: And I comment on it.

    • We will see Galifrey, the Time War and “The Moment” check
    • The Time Lock will stay in place well…. Depends on how you see it? When it was never there and Galifrey is still well hidden, then yes. If Time Lock refers to Galifrey burning, then no.
    • Matt might be regenerating at the end as a cliffhanger. I somehow cannot believe that there will be a full regeneration in the Christmas episode. It is just not in the spirit of Christmas and if I remember correctly the last one was very much so. Although it would give Moffat more time to make it as painful as possible  which is what he promised…? He did even tease Matt at ComicCon about his death scene (yes I searched through the whole video to find that reference)
Clearly I haven’t decided yet. And also clearly I was wrong.
    • The Zygons are in possession of ‘the Moment’ – the Doctor hid it there Wrong.
    • IF we do see the Silence they will be presented under different circumstances – maybe assisting a cause of the Doctor in the long run. Did not happen but I am keeping my fingers crossed for the christmas special.
    • The Doctor has to relive and slightly change his own past to escape? Presuming all is flux because he is in his own time stream. Then again – that would be leaning on JTTCOTT. Depends on the next episode. Moffat the sly fox.
    • My build up expectations will disappoint me. And I was so wrong. The episode was freaking amazing in 3D.
    • Clara will not be related to the Doctor – that thought is somehow revolting to me. Was no theme. So I was kinda right?
    • Clara is in some way connected to River – They use the same expressions for crying out loud. I hope do I get around making a list. I felt constantly reminded of River in the second half of season 7 The more often I hear Clara say Rivers lines it the harder it gets to tell who said what first. One really needs to take notes while watching it the first time.
    • I think the regeneration limit is a given. I agree that the Zygons themselves will not be super improtant. Nope, no regeneration explanation. Zygons as an example how to solve the problem. That is important.

    What about yours?

In addition to what I wrote earlier @gctv (forgot to copy and paste the newest version)

(…There are more. The YouTube channel GuardianJupiter only produces River/Doctor stuff for example.) But it does look like the Doctor slowly moves on.

I didn’t notice that Moffat has a certain blueprint though. The Doctor meets a lot of his female companions when they are rather young lately and comes back later for them. River, Amy and Clara to name a few. So I hope Capaldi won’t go down the same road. Read that a few days ago somewhere on the internet.

@gctv To be fair they spend a whole season on the mystery of River Song. We got to see her before and after season 6 and will see her again if someone comes up with a very good idea for her character. I heard Moffat say that he thinks her story is told, but that there is always a way in for a good story.

Lots of New-Who dislikes River because of Rose. Or at least they did, I have no clue if they are still holding a grudge. Others think the Doctor should not be romantically inclined in general (most of those Whovians grew up with “younger” Doctors, I presume.)

I deduct from you last posts that you have never seen the minisodes, am I right? If so, that is something you need to catch up with. Especially first night and last night. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xwp5yy_doctor-who-first-and-last-night_shortfilms
Many of us have argued that these few precious minutes have taught us more about River and the Doctor than whole episodes did.
There is also the good and the bad night http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xwp6hh_doctor-who-bad-and-good-nights_shortfilms .

I prefer my Doctor Who to be clever and complex like the Big Bang, the Day of the Doctor (can’t believe some people got lost there), or even the Day of the Moon.

P.S.: Oh! And there is the part who doesn’t like River because they think Moffat wrote her poorly. A woman whos whole life is wrapped around the Doctor. That River should have other goals and opinions and that every line is in some way a stereotype of women. Something along those lines. Not enough character development.

And then there is the part who actually likes River. I am one of those. And I am not alone in my love for River. @lula for example is with me. You can find some YouTube videos of what I think about her and the Doctor in the general music thread in post #10632 and #11151. I would link to them but then my post would be swalloed for a while and all the mods are asleep. There are more. The YouTube channel GuardianJupiter only produces River/Doctor stuff for example.

    @scaryb @arbutus

It is indeed a bit addictive AND swallows big chunks of time. This is the only place for me to discuss Doctor Who at all because it has no history whatsoever here. If you’d ask random people on the streets “The Doctor” has no meaning to 95-98% of them – period. I am still amazed by the feedback of the 50th anniversary.

@blenkinsopthebrave Welcome back! I’m glad you enjoyed the episode like most of us.

Could take you days to catch up with everything that has been said and done around here! Good luck and I look very much forward to more of your thoughts.

@gctv Did you know that quite a lot people disliked the River arc (I know, who COULD dislike that?!)? They (grown-ups) complained to the BBC that the story was too complex and that children would not be able to keep up. That’s why Moffat chose to create a different storyline for this last season. And as you say it is very hard to keep everyone happy. I loved “Let’s kill Hitler” but I know that some people on here would rather that episode would not exist at all. Same thing with “The Rings of Akhaten”. I LOVED the Doctors speech and I only realized that people were offended that Clara saved the day when they pointed it out on this forum.

On the other hand I disliked (in comparison to the other episodes of that season)”Cold War” immensely and was shocked to find myself in a minority. Many People seem to prefer these more action-related episodes. Same with “The God Complex”, “The Rebel Flesh”/ “The Almost People” which were quite scary to me. I never did a repeat watch with those – super creepy to me. But then again I accept there are people that expect specifically this from Doctor Who.

@arbutus You think he is a geek because he speaks fast? Imagine how much time went into making those. A lot of cutting and referencing and retaking if he slipped somewhere.

I think I found a mistake though. River Song snipping fingers to close the door? I can’t remember that. (Correct me if I am wrong) The Doctor does it from “Forrest of the Dead” onwards.

As you might have noticed some of the interactive videos are locked. They can be unlocked with a key-combination (or that’s what I heard, anyway) One kind soul uploaded all of them here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDHkeNrjQR8&list=PLEKeXtfnaSZLaka_odZ5DYs7K3LJ38sLv Some very nice extra snippets there. Moffat takes it all with: Sherlock’s aim was not to die, which he accomplished by not dying. I guess you gotta hate him or you gotta love him.

@tardisblue Nice job in welcoming new people to discuss their ideas *high five*

    @tardisblue @bluesqueakpip @toinfinityandbepond

I actually had another idea the other day. I think Moffat slipped that in to explain Capaldi.

“Four: I know you don’t. And in years to come you might find yourself revisiting a few. But just the old favorites, eh?”

He liked Capaldis appearance …? He didn’t forget him from way back with Donna. The man and the family he saved. That’s one way to explain Capaldis past. He just liked what it represents: a new future.

    What do you guys think?

@whisht @elouise Lets just continue the ring tone discussion here, might be a bit confusing on the Day of the Doctor.

I usually stick to normal ring tones as well. Too embarrassing to be caught with something everybody knows in public. However I have been toying with the idea to switch to this one:

Sherlock is not really famous here (seriously they killed everything funny in the German version – they use the same dubbers I know from my childhood. It gets a bit unintentionally slapstick when you recognize Sherlocks voice to be this guy: and Watson to be this guy: Same with the Doctor. The guy who plays Matt has had 370 different speaking parts…. My mind is always trying to connect the dots and it’s annoying, really. Moreover they use the formal version to address each other [which is hard to explain because you don’t have it- in Spanish it would be “usted”]. BUT while they address each other formally, they all are on a first name basis. I cannot even start to tell you how wrong that sounds to me, anyway – I have been told that most people who only know the German version like it.)

Then again I should be fine because nobody knows Sherlock here (not that I am aware of – they might be hiding just like the Doctor Who fans).

Did you know (not quite sure if I can post that here or in the TV section so move to if necessary) that Sherlock has an unofficial theme song? Oh no! by Marina and the Diamonds

Because there is a certain line in that song: “I’m gonna live, I’m gonna fly, I’m gonna fail, I’m gonna die.” Which is exactly what happened in the Reichenbach Fall.

    Cheers,

Maybe @scaryb has found some confidence by then. 😛

So mean of you to reference a TV-Show that was shown 4 years before I was even born. Let me give you something to comprehend how much I can not relate to that(inside joke): When the Berlin wall fell, my mother was pregnant with me. They heard the wreckage outside and decided that they could always catch a glimpse tomorrow. In fact – I just noticed – when Doctor Who first started my parents were not even born yet. That is just mind boggling (because they are ooooold as well 😆 )…. And there are people on here that have watched the very first episode? Duuuuuuuuuude! (AmE: off)

    Timeloop @replies

Okay I have a time-slot open right now so I can try to respond some of the more serious issues that have been discussed here over the last few weeks.

@JimThe Fish Re cliquey and unwelcoming

I think that might be partly so. I have felt so a bit myself now and then in the past. But I do not think that anyone did it on purpose. I do think that a lot of old members tried to integrate new members wholeheartedly lately.

Re new members – I have no clue if I am considered an old or a new member since most of you have been here longer.

Re looking for mods – My schedule would clear up around February and I would like to experience “the other side” of a forum in general. Nevertheless I don’t think I am mod-material since English is not my first language. So I am in favor of @scaryb. I don’t think you should be discouraged by (a lack of) technical skills. That is always something @craig, @jimthefish or @phaseshift or some of the other mods (are there others?) could teach you during one Skype session.

    @craig “Now, anyone want to be a Mod?… Anyone?… Bueller?” What’s a Bueller?

@scaryb All purpose fan site – I agree that there can be no website that everyone can enjoy.
But I myself have never been part of the guardian readership, nor was I ever interested in being one. I found my way here without the “graunidad” and it won’t be just me. It can be a bit tiresome to be in the minority in terms of age.
So I don’t think we should try to only appeal to a certain age. As you mentioned on the other thread Doctor Who is for a wide range of people.  I personally don’t think you have to know every word the Doctor ever uttered to take part in theorizing. In contrary, to develop a deep understanding and love for this show you should only invest your time in literacy when you feel like it. It shouldn’t be a chore.

This way you can have both new perspectives and experience at the same time. That would keep a better balance of things.

Re- overuse of ARSE I think the posts you are referring to were a bit troll-ish looking at first. I was annoyed by them myself. I didn’t want to contradict them though. In general I just let them prevail if it is not my cup of tea but I cannot spot obvious mistakes. Not everybody has to agree with me in favor of a bigger diversity of content and pluralism of opinions. A good analogy would be the Doctor in tRoA:
DOCTOR: The Pyramid of the Rings of Akhaten. It’s a holy site for the Sun Singers of Akhat.
    CLARA: The who of what?
DOCTOR: Seven worlds orbiting the same star. All of them sharing a belief that life in the universe originated here, on that planet.
    CLARA: All life?
    DOCTOR: In the universe.
    CLARA: Did it?
DOCTOR: Well, it’s what they believe. It’s a nice story.

Not sure my point came across in the last one…

Re polls- Yes, this site is based on long insightful (?) posts. Yes the overuse of polls would hurt this website more than it would generate benefit. BUT it could involve more lurkers. What about a poll where you can vote for you favorite theory (even if it is your own) as a registered member? You are allowed to change your opinion as often as you wish, but you always have only one voice. This way we could see what the hive mind of this website thinks to be most likely. Mind you, this should not lead to cheating and looking for mayor spoilers.

    Cheers,

    Timeloop

@craig 2 Things if you ever have nothing better to do with your time:

    1. Whenever I load a new thread and jump to the last post and want to scroll up, I’m lost in some kind of loop. As soon as I touch the screen again I find myself at the end of the thread. If I get high enough though this does not happen. After a certain point the site lets me prevail. Just some weird issue with the tablet.

    2. The tablet does not recognize the “visual” tab as something you could write in.

Don’t bother to fix it when you don’t have enough time on your hands. It’s really nothing pressing.

@elouise I know the feeling. There was a time where I could sleep through 5 different alarms without noticing any of them.
For a while I could get up later than I usually needed to so I first wanted to keep my rhythm and set an alarm but then my bed was just too cozy… So I basically conditioned myself to ignore a very annoying sound for an hour (the alarm would stop on it’s own). This then became a problem when I needed to get up early again and I bloody could not get up(how if you don’t hear anything?).
If I really properly need to get up let’s say for an exam I will record my own voice or ask someone to wake me up. Human voices never fail to get me out of bed.
The one I posted here is my new regular ‘okay, now you need to leave the bed’ alarm.

Matt: “Hello everyone, I’m the Docotor” Me: “Yes, you are.” I will miss this Doctor for sure.

Let me share this story with you:

Two days ago I woke up to my new alarm tone :

Unfortunately I was in a REM-sleep-phase (Rapid eyes movement, ergo dreaming). And I dreamed about Doctor Who which then mixed with the music. Which turned a doctor to the Doctor. Was quite hilarious when I came to my senses. For all I can remember it was a mix of all the Doctors with Tennant and Smith in a more prominent role…. Hilarious. Too bad most of it already slipped my mind!

Thought you might enjoy this little bit. Let me know 😉

@wolfweed I watched that like 12 times because I couldn’t believe my eyes. What is Moffat doing? Very unexpected. Must be a red hering.

@bluesqueakpip Oh, Sonic Lipstick…. What could that do?
Well then I amend my earlier statement:

I didn’t mind that the Doctor could have a new one at will. River is still the first person he gave his screwdriver. So he has had a hard time parting with it.

@ahowe444 If you read some posts upstream you will see that your thoughts already occurred to most people in this thread. The big question is how Moffat is going to resolve it. Any ideas? Bring on the bonkers theories 😀
