A little late in posting, but have finally got round to it.

After the episode there was only one thing to say: “Permission to SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!!”
Enjoyed it very much, after the second time of watching. (The first viewing was spent trying to such it all in and anticipating the end…)

Very touching tribute to the Brigadier, and nice to see Kate again. Very very very sorry to see Osgood get the chop though, especially when she was championing bow ties ๐Ÿ™ Un-necessary!

Gutted for the Doctor when he realised Missy lied. She can’t be gone that easily can she?? And if she comes back then surely the wonderful Michelle Gomez has to as well!

Very sad scenes with Danny and Clara, but I had already prepared myself for his departure. Definitely think Clara and the Doctor will be reunited at Christmas.

Can’t wait to see Nick Frost as Father Christmas! Brilliant. ๐Ÿ™‚

I like the idea that Clara was pregnant, and she was trying to tell Danny. This would explain how he has an identical ancestor astronaut whom she met earlier in the series. But then I also like the idea that perhaps she has three months to live and we will lose a companion in a cruel twist of fate that not even the Doctor could have forseen. But I don’t fancy being weepy for yet another Xmas episode!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well, what to say that hasn’t already been said! Very much enjoyed this episode, and like a lot of people was left saying: “Nooo! I need to see the next one NOW!” Enjoyed the jokes that broke the tension: Angry Scottish people and football, superb. And the little reference to PC in ‘The Thick of It’, excellent.

As soon as Doctor Chang put his arm in the x-ray water, my brain remembered the trailer and I was shouting at my TV that they were Cybermen in the tanks. Completely didn’t work out that Missy was short for Mistress, AKA Master. Brilliant. Originally I’d hoped she’d be a new character but the reveal of being The Master had greater effect. I know there’s a lot of talk that Time Lords should stay the same sex but I think she can get away with it. Michelle Gomez is a fantastic actress, and she does slightly unhinged very well (Sue White in the brilliant ‘Green Wing’- look it up if you haven’t seen it, she does crazy in that as well!)
Very much looking forward to the finale! ๐Ÿ˜€

I don’t like to complain about my favourite programme, but I felt like that was one of the most disappointing DW episodes I have seen. I liked the set up, London covered in trees, (kudos to the special effects team for that) and the threat of things living in them. I was confused as to why the episode was called ‘In the Forest of the Night’ when it was broad daylight. With regards to lack of tension, surely taking place at night would’ve created what was missing.
Thought the kids did a fab job, and Danny Pink is really growing on me. But I felt like the story never really got going, and to be completely honest it just didn’t feel like an episode of DW. Why was it so late in the series, in a build up to the finale we should’ve had something a bit more exciting. I suppose if they wanted to have something ‘nice’, like the calm before the storm of the finale then that’s what they got. I just don’t think it worked.
The most exciting part for me was next week’s trailer.

I can’t shake off a small nagging feeling that has been growing: that PC has been a little let down this series, but I can’t put my finger on it or why. Don’t get me wrong, he has done a fantastic job and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching him and have enjoyed most of the episodes. But it’s like there’s something missing. In all honesty, it’s not been my favourite series. *runs away and ducks for cover*

Very much enjoyed this episode, felt a bit Tennant-esque. Really cool idea for an alien, and the image of the police officer’s nervous system on the wall was chilling. Love a new idea, and that was new. Loved the mini TARDIS, and the scene where the Doctor’s hand dragged it off the railway track had me in stitches.

As for the true identities of Clara and Missy- every week I comb through theories and my opinion changes! At the moment I like the idea of Clara being the TARDIS and Missy is a female Time Lord. Next week- who knows!! Please keep the ideas coming, I enjoy reading them. (Mine are usually rubbish!)

Bit late reading the comments, internet probs!

Very much enjoyed this episode, had high hopes which were fulfilled. It was a little reminiscent of Tennant’s ‘Unicorn and the Wasp’ and ‘Voyage of the Damned’.

Liked Frank Skinner’s cameo as Perkins. Loved the jelly baby case, hoping these will be in shops before Xmas ๐Ÿ˜€ And of course, the classic line we’d been saying in our house before the episode was on: “Are you my mummy?”

Can’t believe there’s only four eps of this series left! Reckon we’ll be seeing Missy sometime soon…

I was utterly flabbergasted after last night’s episode! My head hurt and I was more confused than ever, but I knew it was damn good. I’m usually fairly good at following SM stories, but last night I was beaten!

It got to the point where I thought Danny was the Master! The scene featuring the boy in bed in the shed, and the mention of Time Lords, I presumed Clara was meeting a Danny from the past and somehow he was going to be the Master before regenerating into Danny at some point. Lord knows where I cooked that up from!! My sister looked at me like I was going mad when I told her! ๐Ÿ˜›

I need to rewatch this to fully appreciate it and sort my head out (although some of your comments have helped, I thank you.) The scene with the thing under the blanket on the bed really spooked me- thank God I don’t have a gap under my bed or I wouldn’t have slept last night!!

Thoroughly enjoyed ‘Robot of Sherwood’, a jolly romp of an English folklore with a robot twist- love it. I always enjoy Mark Gatiss’ episodes, and I think you can tell he enjoys writing them as much as we enjoy watching them.
Some classic lines, Scots and vegetables springs to mind! Loved the banter between the Doctor and ‘Hoody’, and the fact the Doctor wouldn’t believe he was real. (Hoody was brilliantly portrayed by Tom Riley, and Ben Miller’s Sheriff was fantastic.)

I know some people were disappointed and thought it silly, but I think it’s good to have an episode that is light-hearted and a bit of fun. Some episodes get fairly dark, and you really have to concentrate, so it’s nice to have a break from it and sit back and laugh out loud.
Next weeks episode looks a tad on the dark side, looking forward to it!

Very impressed with ‘Into the Dalek’, feels like PC’s Doctor has hit the ground running. What a fascinating idea, exploring inside a Dalek. Liked the mixture of reality in this episode too- Clara and Danny Pink trying to hit it off was something a lot of us can relate to! Awkward!
I like the ideas about the Pink and Blue names, hadn’t picked up on that. There’s definitely more to this guy than meets the eye. My sister reckons he’s an alien, I’m not sure yet.
Also enjoying the DW Extra, it’s like having Confidential back- YAY!!

Ok, having said yesterday that I think Missy is a completely original character, I have just read through all the recent comments and starting to believe she has got to be something more than that. I forgot- this is the Moffat era, and nothing is that simple! ๐Ÿ™‚
@fatmaninabox – I like your theory about Missy being connected to the Cybermen in some way. I’ve read some rumour-type stuff about the Cybermen being a big part of this series, and the more I think about it the more I reckon she has to be linked to them…
( @serahni – I enjoyed your theory about the world being Gallifrey- it wouldn’t surprise me if you were close!! Hehe ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

    WhoGirl @replies

Well, what is left to say! I love reading the comments (positive more than negative to be honest) and all the theories.
My whole family sat down to watch last night, and none of us were disappointed. The opening credits- think they will be a grower for sure. Like the cogs and funky music, miss the swirly timey-wimey things a bit though. And as for a T-Rex vomiting the Tardis, what a way to start!
Thought the pace was a tad slow to start but once the story got going I forgot about time. Absolutely LOVE Strax- PLEASE PLEASE can the Paternoster Gang have their own series!! ‘Next time just take the stairs’. What a brilliant trio.
It was a big risk to go with a Doctor so different to what we’ve been so used to. And boy does it pay off. It has left us wondering what he’ll do or say next, and what other new characteristics he has. I know some people thought having Matt’s Doctor calling at the end a bit undermining to PC, but I think it was a nice way to say to some fans, ‘it’s ok’ as well as to Clara. I think it was good to have a little bit of reassurance.
I had a thought in my head early on about the link to the SS Madame du Pompadour, but I dismissed it. Interesting to see their return, as gross as it was, but I quite liked it!
I also recognised the garden from Two Streams, glad I wasn’t the only one. I think it’s pure coincidence. They have reused sets and locations before. Of course I could be wrong and it could be another one of Moffat’s grand story arcs!
And as for Missy- I’m going to put it out there and say I think she’s just a brand new character, which would be great.
Overall- thoroughly enjoyed this opener. Bring on the next episode!

Yes, I’m hoping Clara will stick around. I think there’s more to her that we haven’t seen yet. (Plus I’m still getting over Amy and Rory’s departure. I couldn’t handle another one yet!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

Showing at the cinema again eh. Sounds good! Although I quite like the idea of being at home surrounded by various nods to the programme, like some of you are by the sounds of it! You really can’t beat fish fingers & custard, it’s become a favourite in our household ๐Ÿ˜‰

My sister and I sent in a thing for the ballot, and our excuse to get out of work early, should we be fortunate enough, is ‘we have an appointment with a Doctor’… Good enough???

    WhoGirl @replies

Haven’t clicked on any links on this page, just reading various posts and seeing the pictures is enough for me. I just like a small taster of what to expect rather than reading a whole script.

It’s shame that some things can’t be left a secret until the day. Takes the fun out of the programme I think.

As for the rumour of the Master returning, I hope it’s a red herring. It’s about time we had a brand new baddie, something completely different and just as legendary.

I was devastated to hear that some fool had ‘lost’ the first 5 episodes of the new series. I’d always commended DW on how it kept everything under wraps in this day and age, where everything is shared and nothing is secret. Will be avoiding parts of the internet for the next month!
Liking the Sanjeev Bhaskar casting, and would definitely like to try that cocktail he’s holding…

I quite like the odd cameo from the odd famous person. They often provide comic relief, Lee Evans for example, in ‘Planet of the Dead’. Even Peter Kay’s Abzorbaloff had a comedic side.
It also shows how highly regarded the programme is, that everyone who’s anyone wants to be on it! ๐Ÿ™‚

I was hoping, for the anniversary last year, that some of the Classic series would be played on BBC4 or something, as it’s a BBC show. Alas not. Wish I had the Horror Channel…

I’d like to see another UNIT two-parter, maybe with the fabulous Kate Lethbridge-Stewart. Then perhaps we will find out what happened to her and her colleagues in the vault with the Zygons…

I’d also like to see a story where a former companion (or two) returns. It worked so well with the lovely Sarah Jane Smith, and so interesting to find out what happens to those who get left behind.

Great news about a second series, I can almost see the Hammer-Horror style now you mention it. I laughed in several places too, until it got to the creepy part! You’re right, it was great to see Helen McCrory again. She does a good baddie!

Also great news about a second series of ‘Musketeers’ after a gripping final episode. The question is, will Peter Capaldi be back??

@phaseshift I watched ‘Inside No.9’, and thought it was very good. We’re fans of ‘The League of Gentlemen’ and ‘Psychoville’, and this was just as good. My favourite episodes were ‘A Quiet Night In’ and the first one, ‘Sardines’- hilariously dark. I loved the concept of a silent episode, intrigued by how it could be done in this day and age. And almost an entire episode set in a wardrobe- brilliant. The writing was very clever, and after I went back and re-watched ‘TLOG’, and reminded of just how good a writer and character actor Mark Gatiss is.
My only gripe was the last episode- I didn’t sleep that night afterwards!! It was horrific!

@craignixon I’m watching The Musketeers, I quite enjoy it, and it lightens up my dull Sunday evenings.
Every time I see Peter Capaldi I wonder if he knew he was the next Doctor when he filmed the episode…

I’m filling the sci-fi shaped hole in my life at the moment with ‘The Tomorrow People’ on E4. It’s ok, it’s been interesting enough to keep me tuning in every week. Anyone else?

What a beautifully airbrushed face on the cover of ‘Tales of Trenzalore’… ๐Ÿ˜€

I decided to re-watch all the episodes starting from Chris Ecclestone’series, and this week saw ‘The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances’. I always forget how much I enjoy this story, and recall being terrified of the gas mask people, mainly because masks (and in particular gas masks) give me the creeps. I also forgot that it was Moffat’s first story on DW, and it’s a great starter. And how young Captain Jack is! Well, I say young, he’s actually well into his years I think… His lifeline confuses me.

As to the Chris series overall, I agree with @phaseshift, he suits just the one series, and he probably had the hardest job of all drawing people in. He gives a great performance, in my opinion, throughout the whole series. And the relationship he builds with Rose really helps develop it.
Looking forward to the rest of the series now!

@theprettyreckless – yeah, Torchwood is great stuff. Kept me going when Doctor Who was off air!

Glad to see the welcome return of those three, they always bring comic relief as well as getting stuck into a juicy mystery.

As for a ‘spikier’ Doctor, that’d be a new and interesting element to the series. And I’m also excited to see the new outfit!

    (Probably spoilers…)

An interesting episode I thought, something a bit different and a bit more emotional than we’ve had before. In a way it was interesting to see a completely different side to Sherlock, and those drunk scenes are some of the best EVER! ๐Ÿ˜€ And Mrs Hudson- “you’ve only been gone 2 hours”. Brilliant.
Some interesting theories here, and I didn’t know about Mary’s fate in the books- have only just started reading them. Kind of hoping they ‘forget’ to put that in…
Someone said they thought Molly’s bloke was sus- we thought that too. There’s something about him, not sure if it’ll turn into anything though.

(I do have to say though, and this is just something that made me chuckle, if you were putting a belt on wouldn’t you feel that you’ve been stabbed? Even the smallest blade or needle you can feel, just seemed a bit odd in an otherwise top episode.)

Very much looking forward to the grand finale!

Me and my family thoroughly enjoyed this programme, and thought it was such a beautiful way to kick start the weekend of 50th celebrations. It was excellently written, acted and produced, and David Bradley was wonderful. The likeness between himself and William Hartnell was uncanny.
I knew little about how it all started and it was all so interesting.
The little touch at the end was superb, a nice way to link the first Doctor with the (then) present. By then the water works were well and truly flowing!

    I thought Sherlock was BRILLIANT!!!!

So great to see it back on TV, don’t think I moved from my position on the sofa the whole episode for fear of missing the slightest thing! Liked that they threw us in with a theory that was completely wrong straight away, then teased us with another halfway through. Loved that the bloke was like, ‘was that it?!’

After speaking to a few friends, it seems I was the only one who wasn’t confused by which was the real one. I thought it was obvious that Sherlock’s was the real one, seeing as it was him who told us? I was slightly bemused by this! Also, I read a few articles online, and the Daily Mail was causing trouble by saying all Sherlock fans were left confused by which was the real answer. I was screaming, it’s obvious!! Didn’t they watch it properly? Or is this just me?

Looking forward to tonight’s episode, can’t wait for the Best Man’s speech…

Unbelievably excited for the return of Sherlock on New Year’s Day! Can’t believe it’s been two years we’ve had to wait to find out HOW he did it. Actually,ย come to think of it, it does feel like two years!! The minisode whetted my appetite good n’ proper. I swear the theories have got wilder. The latest one I read was that Sherlock and Moriarty are the same person and it was Moriarty’s body that fell. I have no idea what that person was drinking…

@thommck- I was disappointed the BBC cancelled Ripper Street too. I know it had a few flaws but it was still a great drama. And yet they carry on with The Voice which gets boring when they lose the spinney chairs and the winner disappears into oblivion, and the rubbish they put on BBC3 most of the time! Shame.

I enjoyed this episode, and like some of you I had to watch it twice to really digest it.

It was good to see some of the threads tied up, and things finally clicking into place. Dorian’s ‘Fall of the Eleventh’ speech makes completeย sense now.ย ย I liked the fact he was on Trenzalore which was also Christmas, and he grew old gracefully. My sister and I agreed though that his goodbye seemed a little rushed. I loved the goodbye from Amy, that was a nice touch. And when the bow tie hit the ground I was in pieces! David’s last episode had such a build up, but Matt’s seemed to happen very quickly.

As much as I will miss Matt Smith, I am looking forward to seeing what Peter Capaldi will do.
