@purofilion the news of the 2016 season being a season of specials is at this time only rumour and not confirmed. personally I am hoping like the rest of the articles content proves to be false.. long may the capaldidocs reign last.
8 September 2015 at 18:16 #42447I too hope this is a massive hoax, but being realistic keeping an actor of Capaldi’s caliber for more than two or three years will be a minor miricle unless he has been locked in on a long term contract. This would be very unlikely at least he has given us more than Ecclestone and will not be likely to make the same mistake of not be willing take part in conventions etc post departure. The only actor/ress who are likely to stay for a long period are those that are relative unknowns before they take on the role. The news that the 2016 is to be a series of 3 specials if true is worrying as its previous precedence in the Tenant era ended in his leaving. As to the propersition that we may be getting a preview of a future regeneration or even the new doctor this would actually be an interesting plot line for an exit story especially if the new doctor is not explicitly introduced as such until the very end of the story but is more of a mysterious character like the watcher in the Baker/Davidson handover.
11 July 2015 at 06:52 #41108@janetteb after seeing the new season trailer my imeadiately thought is Maisie Williams bringing back The doctor clone from the Doctors Daugther episode I always thought that there was more to be done with this character. just thought I would throw the thought out there for you all to kick around.
1 December 2014 at 21:00 #35961What about TransDimension Alley.
13 November 2014 at 13:24 #35441arrrgh dont know why my last post seems to have scrambled itsself
13 November 2014 at 13:22 #35440Just had a really evil thought about Ingrid Oliver her interview in the DWextra definitely has a flavor of “I know something you dont know “to it.
Now i know a lot of you are hoping it was “ZygonOsgood” that was killed, but and now I apologise if anyone else has already proposed this, (just too many posts to more than scan them i keep waking to 20+ emails from the forum). We know she has a sister. What if shes not just her sister but an identical twin. Yes I know this was used in a fashion when Freema Agyeman
s character Martha was introduced they had used her in the Army of ghosts episode where she played Marthas cousin who worked in Torchwood. Yes I know Osgood has stated that her sister is prettier but twins often feel thier twin is, especially where one twin is submissive to the other. Now I know in part it is the “boffin” aspect of her character along with her timidity and Doctor fanboyness that actually makes her appealing as a potential companion but it certainly neatly gets around her death in this episode if they want to bring her back as a companion.13 November 2014 at 12:54 #35439Just watched the Ingrid Oliver interview again and that look definitely has “I know something you don’t know” look.
9 November 2014 at 18:01 #35161@craig there is no problem as such I was just wondering if there was was a way for the pages to auto refresh without affecting members ability to write thier responses, but from what you’ve said I take it isn’t an option.lol
9 November 2014 at 17:51 #35158All I can say is wow and for some reason I don’t think the doctor and Clara are finished with each other yet. So many posts to get through, only managed to watch it after the last guests from the soirée we were having had left last night 🙂 but was too tried to check the forum 🙁 oh boy my mistake lol.
Seriously need a second and properly a third rewatching in order to develop any cognitive thoughts, questions were answered maybe… Other questions raised most definitely.
So we are lead to belive that Missy/Master was the woman in the shop but if this was so why didn’t clara recognise her. I am reminded of Rivers rules about the Doctor and the prime one of the doctor lies and if it holds true for him it certainly holds for true for the Master in triple if not quadruple spades.
What was Clara trying to tell the doctor there at the end, we are assuming that it was to tell him that she would not be able to travel with him anymore, but is this more SM misdirection especially given the ending.
And gallifrey has it really returned.. Yes we know the master lied about the coordinates but was he/she lying about the return. For that matter was s/he lying did it not look suspiciously like there was a sort of back space maybe there is a perception screen preventing anyone seeing the planet.
Poor Oswin what a cruel thing for the fans to have do away with the shows nod to us hardcore fans.
Right really need to go watch again to get my head around everything
7 November 2014 at 08:48 #34913Might the reason The Mistress/Master seems to have fixated on a heaven theme and using the “souls” of the recently departed, I do wish there was a better term, be because in the End of Time story he was essentially resurrected from actual death. Maybe the reason has something he experienced whilst he was “dead” before. In the End of time was he a bit peculiar and not just bat crap crazy, i.e: the insatiable hunger and the ability to throw lightning from his hands, was this because he was actually undergoing a regeneration kicked off by his resurrection and with a gender change perhaps this created the bizarre results seen. This would be in keeping with when 11 seemed to have been made young again before transforming into 12.
6 November 2014 at 14:04 #34862Been having a bit of a think on the Doctor
s apparent easy forgiveness of Claras actions with the Tardis keys. I am beginning to suspect he thinks or suspects theres something up with Clara and not all her actions are of her own volition. In addition his apparent not needing that much convincing to try and “rescue” Danny from death makes me believe that Danny
s demise is not natural. Has the Doctor previously investigated Dannys time line,(given his apparent protectiveness of Clara and has been checking out her B/F), so he is aware that he shouldn’t have died and actually wants to investigate. To all those who have been speculating on various pregnancies and children being raised in the nethersphere heres another bonkers thought for you. If this were so as some have said the child would have no corporal body and would just be an intellect within the timelord matrix thingy… now i am sure some of you are possibly seeing where this line of thought is going hehehe… the child could possibly have become ta da….The Great Intelligence.
Now listen to my reasoning some thing the doctor does causes Clara’s intellect to be uploaded to the nethersphere but continues to gestate the child which is born within the nethersphere. Because the nethersphere is timelord tech it enables the child to travel in time and the child has a grievance with the doctor because it has not corporal state so decided to take revenge on those it sees as responsible and goes back into the past and becomes the Great Intelligence. This would rather neatly explain the GI`s preoccupation with the Doctor…
Ouch need much more coffee and perhaps painkillers for the headache this Bonkerising has given me.lol its all properly wrong anyway.
6 November 2014 at 00:25 #34835lol @bluesqueakpip and @lisa
Now for a bit of a bonkers thought and getting back to clara
s post-it note puzzle board affair at the begining of the episode, my first impression when i was watching and i cant quite shake it after a second viewing is perhaps clara knows somthing is wrong with her actions but could not figure out why. When she was on the phone to danny I think she had suddenly work or was close to working it out and wanted to discuss it but for some reason not with the doctor. Unfortunately i think I need to create a puzzle board of my own cause i for the life of me cant see what it was she was seeing i her potit notes.5 November 2014 at 23:53 #34826@craig have you considered adding an auto refresh option. Say refreshing the page every 10 mins on the forum page or is that on of those things that a big company would only be able to do because they have thier own servers and humongus computers to process the data.
5 November 2014 at 23:42 #34824@spacecadet really you cant be much of a fan if you cant even get the characters name right.
sniff sniff do i detect the faint aroma of troll or is it that your chosen name is very apt as in the 70’s meaning of the word .
2 November 2014 at 01:11 #34493well just a moment before the big Missy/master reveal I thought Missy was going to reveal that she was a dark future incarnation of jenny then she started on the Missy mistress speak and i was certain as she said it she was going to turn out to be the master.
Hmm thats given me a thought how Sm can bring in the Valeyard because Jenny was essentially an altered clone of the Tennant doc so why not make the Valeyard a future twisted version of Jenny. Oh my head is spinning with all the possibilities. and the Clara /Danny situation still needs a resolution, even the clara/impossible girl need to be finally put to bed so to speak i.e : I think the clara who saves the day has at least one more task.
1 November 2014 at 21:20 #34439Omg omg omg lol now the proverbial cow muck has hit the the fan.
26 October 2014 at 20:05 #34162I know I said this earlier in the thread but have now watched the episode fore a second time and I am more and more convinced that the Danny Pink “arc” has been a massive red herring trawled infont of us by that master of deception Steven Moffat.
26 October 2014 at 09:19 #34139Groan @juniperfish I wondered how lon until the wood puns would be 🙂
25 October 2014 at 22:23 #34108@badwulf Danny has grown on me though I am beginning to suspect he may have been SM’s way of trawling a big red herring to distract us from the true change in Clara through the series, by creating in essence that some fans have to what I call the smushy stuff or as some have called it the soap opera element
As for the “bad” science in this episode and infact throughoutn the series that various members have commented on, this is Dr Who we are talking about and it is what I call science fantasy. If it were a book series it might even get classified as urban fantasy. For this reason in my personal opinion it can be forgiven for straying from factual science.
25 October 2014 at 21:53 #34104@pedant too true but you’ve got to admit the end of episode trailer trailer is essentially a game changer.
25 October 2014 at 21:33 #34098Having just watched the latest episode and seen comming next time I won’t really be able to comment in the main episode page about a certain character because all bets are off so to speak and everything we thought we knew isn’t true, typical SM lol. Still trying to process what is to come.
25 October 2014 at 21:14 #34094Oh boy what an episode I have just finished watching the episode and the words jaw dropping come to mind especially the end but I think that could be classed as as a grand scale spoiler.
25 October 2014 at 20:05 #34090Right posting this here and not in the current episode ( flatline) as it is slightly off topic but is topical so to speak, so if one of the mods or emperor Craig feel it belongs elsewhere (and it proberly does) then feel free to move it.
Recently got hooked into watching a series of YouTube clips surrounding Clara on who or what she may be. unfortunately I’m on my iPad and only being moderately tech savvy I am blowed if I can work out how to cut and paste between pages. The third part called Clara Who? Part3 lays out a very convincing argument for Clara to actually be some kind of regeneration of River.
Any thoughts or arguments with this theory.23 October 2014 at 11:44 #34021Now don’t shout at me if this has already been submitted as a possibility but,;
Is there a possibility that Missy is the Moment. Well it is sentient and to a degree I think like the TARDIS it appears to consider the Doctor as hers ( hence considering the doctor as her boyfriend).
The Moment has shown that it does more than just destroy things so may have the ability to pull ppl into some kind of alternate reality.
I was never sure what happened to the moment after the day of the doctor, in theory if the two timeline theory is correct in one the moment is destroyed in the other not used so what happened.
Ouch my head is about to explode
21 October 2014 at 22:25 #33974@samsung thornby Well if he’s been granted a full new regeneration cyle by his timelord fellows it should be 12 or is that 11. Being 11 regenerations and 12 bodies per cycle but if that is so…… Then in the day of the doctor when the member of the timelord war council says no all 13 of him they must have known that he was going to get a new regen cycle… Oh my now why didn’t I think of that before.
19 October 2014 at 22:28 #33870Right just had a really bizarre thought. This is in part stimulated by various others comments and probably a really twisted bonkers thought could Clara actually may be a biological embodiment of a tardis. There are a few things that bought this thought about.
1. The doctors tardis’s reaction to Clara initially.
2. Clara’s ability to leap into the doctors time stream.
3. The fact that Clara was was able to survive on the outside the TARDIS in the time vortex.
4 the recent discussion on one of the previous episodes threads about the acceptance/inclusion of some of the book who as part of the cannon of the show which may include sentient Tardis.
As I say this theory is proberly super impossible bonkers but I thought I would share it for consideration and comment….18 October 2014 at 23:46 #33768Been having some thoughts about Missy , not those kind you smutty lot though I could see how her stern demeanour could lead some of you astray. It Was more of a bonkers thought what if our little miss Missy is a totally new character but is still a time lady/Lord but of the ancient variety ie from the Rassilon era (they were porputedly truly immortal in those days) perhaps banished to the nethersphere for some transgression against the rest of the timelord society. Now when has something like that happened before oh yes a certain trouble maker who liked to interfere and wasn’t he banished to an insignificant planet called dirt or earth or some such.
Maybe those similarities are why she refers to him as her boyfriend….18 October 2014 at 22:53 #33760Oh wow what an episode 2-d creature very reminicient of SCfi films of the 50s/60s lol. And Clara being a “substitute” doctor. And Missy going all possessive over Clara, does this really mean she planted her with the doctor or is it just that Missy has chosen Clara to play some future role in what she is planning for the Doctor. Perhaps through manipulations by Danny (just playing devils advocate here)
12 October 2014 at 09:25 #33422@geoffers yes I know the doctor is supposed to sense other Timelords but there have been occasions where he hasn’t sensed them before. My actual first thought on Perkins was that he was actually the controlling force behind GUS and the doc had him in the tardis to trap him as he just appeared a little too convenient.
11 October 2014 at 23:13 #33392oh my bad @pedant aka IAmNotAFishIAmAFreeMan (nice nod to Patrick Mcgoohan btw) was it Perkins and not Spenser now why did I think it was spenser though i am terrible with name s it takes ages for character names to stick lol.
11 October 2014 at 22:32 #33381Just had a thought as I was getting ready for bed did anyone pickup that Spenser (Frank Skinner) that a) appeared just too convienently,
And b) seemed to have some kind of knowledge of the workings of the Tardis.Could he have been a timelord, yes I know the only other Timelords are supposed to be in the bubble universe but we know from BG Who that the doctor wasn’t the only “rouge” timelord around could Spenser really have been one of these that we hadn’t prviously met.
11 October 2014 at 22:06 #33377Oh my good episode, Spenser struck me as odd as in I have a funny feeling about him but not sure what. Glad Clara and the doctor seem to be back on track so to speak.
Need to really watch it again,I’m sure the was a couple of things that peaked my interest. For one was it really “Gus” that put up the force field that stopped Clara from getting to the tardis. Secondly did anyone catch how the mummy/soldier saluted the doctor.
Anyway off to bed then hopefully a rewatching in the morning.8 October 2014 at 15:02 #33274@fatmaninabox I agree with you proposal that perhaps the doctor never actually left and I too thought that he had somehow made the Tardis invisible. Had forgotten the previous instances where he had made the Tardis invisible.
One wonders are we going to get a recap at some point a little like in The marriage of river where we get a recap of certain events but from a different angle which gives them a whole new meaning.
7 October 2014 at 06:28 #33194I have been thinking about this issue that some people seem to think this weeks story has a pro-life agenda.
IMHO I don’t think that was actually intentional, what I actually think it was supposed to be about is that in the doctors opinion/experience the human race has a trait to mistrust or try to destroy anything that is alien. Look at what happened with PM Harriet Jones and the Zigarax Spaceship (sorry if if I’ve spelt it wrong ), and early Torchwood`s attitude to anything alien i.e.: if its alien its ours.
I think the whole idea of the episode as well as his giving Clara a lesson in some of the difficult decisions he has had to make in the past, is a sub-plot of grow up humans learn to live with your “neighbours” you are going to meet a lot more when you get out there.
Now I am not saying that Clara actually needed this lesson, we are talking about the woman who jumped into his time stream to save him over and over and also talked him into making a different decision about Gallifrey. This doctor definitely has all the arrogance of his first regeneration that he has superior knowledge and to a degree is acting like a disappointed parent saying i know you can do better.
Hope this all makes sense
with kindest regards Devilish
6 October 2014 at 08:42 #33129Hmm had some thoughts on how the moons gravity could have suddenly been affected though, (and I will have to watch again to confirm this), I thought the captain said the gravity effect had started 10 years earlier. Also if I understand foetal development most growth occurs in the final trimester of development in most species , now the biologists in our merry troop will be able to correct my misconception if I am wrong.
If as some one has previously mentioned the baby moon dragon was growing by absorbing the energy from x-rays/cosmic rays or even the physicists favourite dark matter, though my understanding is that dark matter if it exists it is in the intra galactic regions. This could explain the mass increase.
My favourite but totally bonkers theory as it doesn’t have any current scientific basis is that the baby moon dragon has to be able to move itself through space and it might do this by producing focused gravity waves. This could be why there were localised gravity fluctuations as it may be like a baby that kicks in the womb though to be fair I would expect the fluctuations to be over a larger area.
5 October 2014 at 17:39 #33055Just watched the episode again, now whilst I have a lot to think about especially in combination with what others have said. Before I make any further comments I want to confirm something I thought I observed; On the beach when they were watching moon egg hatch did anyone else think that the doctors face go a sort of grey. It almost looked like PC was having a cardiac event. :s
5 October 2014 at 09:04 #33027Oh I had to laugh when I saw the Telegraphs article about doctor who having perhaps becoming too frightening. I remember classic who being more frightening at times. It has always been historically a program that younger children find frightening and thrilling in almost equal measures. Now I know this will properly not mean anything to non British (BBC) viewers of the show but the last 2 weeks have actually been
What also gets me with this season it seems to have put on hold what I assume everyone thought would be the the overall arc for the doctor of finding a way of returning Gallifrey to normal space. That is unless @badwulf bonkers theory that this is all a simulation that Missy is running to see if the doctor is worthy of a new regeneration cycle. 🙂
4 October 2014 at 23:17 #32978I can’t help feeling that SM is definitely setting up an exit scenario for Jenni.
However I get the feeling thatin someway the doctor is setting Clara up to make some kind of bigger decision that will have universe wide implications. In this adventure he was testing her in some way but I am not sure exactly for what. He himself has had to make decisions on whether the safety of the many means sacrificing a few (oh Lordy that makes me sound like a Vulcan, Lol ). Maybe the test was not so much for Clara as it was for himself.
Also in response to those criticising the doctor for differentiating between himself and humankind could be excused if he still thought he was the last timelord. He now knows gallifrey survived albeit in its own pocket universe so his ultimate sense of loyalty has now changed so his thinking paradigm will have shifted back to a them and us view.
Right that’s all my initial thoughts but will no doubt think of more when I eventually get my second viewing.
4 October 2014 at 21:42 #32963@badwulf did you accidentally click the post button mid-sentence.
4 October 2014 at 21:33 #32960Oh what a dark episode loved it even if the doctor shows a more unlikable side. Can’t think clearly this episode definitely needs a second viewing as there is so much going on.
3 October 2014 at 15:43 #32897woohoo I finally did it yay . Yes I finally after months and months of hair pulling frustration have actually done it and ive only gone bald in the process. Yippeee.
Oh what have I done you ask lol, yes I have finally got it to the pesky end, got it to its ultimate conclusion, that mind bending puzzle that is 2048: the doctor who edition :))) yes its actually given me an RSI but ive done it :))) no more will I feel compelled to give it one more try no more will I lose hours and hours trying to complete it :))
Oh and by the way I blame @fatmaninabox for introduing me to this devious and time sucking game
2 October 2014 at 19:25 #32876Oh why did I do it….. Went looking for a definition of netherspace and saw way too many spoilers about missy.
I was basically looking into a theory I was trying to develop about Missy. Now I know it has already been proposed that she may be a regeneration of Romana and I was trying to put some kind of context to that theory because we already know Missy’s title is Gatekeeper of the Netherspace.
This got me thinking is netherspace what was called E-space in BG Baker era. This of course then got me thinking of Romana who when the doctor finally escaped E-Space she elected to stay behind at what was effectively the gateway between normal space universe and the E-Space universe.. Yes yes I know in the books published she eventually got back to Gallifey to become the high president. But if SM is perhaps not including that in the new cannon it occured to me that Missy could in fact be a warped regeneration of Romana.
If she is Romana, Missy’s earlier comment about her being the Doctors boyfriend could be a warped memory of being the doctors companion.
Oh well I sure it’s all nonsense anyway but felt I needed to share.
30 September 2014 at 23:52 #32802@lisa no problem I hadn’t heard of Compassion before it was mentioned in an earlier post so I had to go look it up on wiki 🙂 . It also mentions there that Compassion rescues several people…… Now why does that sound familiar lol, not exactly sure if all the gap who book storylines and characters have been included in the official who cannon but the way I read what was there on wiki the compassion stories haven’t been “disavowed” so given that SM is known to include gap info into the history anything may be possible and certainly adds additional possibilities as to our Missy bonkerising..
30 September 2014 at 23:19 #32797@lisa compassion as far as I am aware is a living TARDIS not a timelord, but I am willing to be corrected on that point. in the wiki article I read it speculated that compassion was a prototype type 102 which I took for a model of tardis
30 September 2014 at 19:35 #32787@purofilion lol What makes you think I am not English. I stand by my interpretation that he was only grudgingly admitting that Dan’s assistance saved the day. There was definitely an element of the green eyed monster there.
On another note was the Doctor’s insistence that he didn’t want Clara’s help in this adventure in part an attempt of saying I can cope without you as well as being a case that he knew what Clara’s reaction would be to potentially endangering the pupils and staff.
30 September 2014 at 09:13 #32756Oh my finally had time to check my emails on my iPad and had 73 unreads with 80% being caretaker responses in less than 24 hrs.
So sorry if I don’t credit all with thier respective addition when I mention them I am having a Doctor moment and being unable to retain all of them as they came so thick and fast.
Loved the suggested in of Clara being “compassion” but I would go more with thT idea as someone else suggested that it is Missy rather than Clara. But aren’t all tardises “living” I thought that was established in the doctor’s wife episode.
As to the doctors behaviour towards Danny doesn’t it smack of she’s my toy your not playing with her lol. Especially at towards the end of the episode and Clara points out that Danny helped save the world and the doctors response is a grudging ( wanted to say curmudgeonly) “its a start”. It almost felt like he was saying I’ll let you play with her but on my terms.
My gut feeling is perhaps the Grand Moff is setting up a potential exit strategy for Jenna at a future date, but from the doctors aspect of it as has been stated the doctor realises his companions will always leave him at some point and is developing coping strategy to deal with it.
28 September 2014 at 20:10 #32641Just rewatching the episode and the doctor definitely says otters
28 September 2014 at 19:23 #32637@scaryb did you also pick up on the man interviewing the PC response to him saying “oh god” and the responds she’s a bit busy and it then cuts to a view of Missy looking on disapprovingly, and I am paraphrasing the exact wording. So does this intimate that Missy is some kind of “deity” maybe even one of the pre timelord old gods.
Arrgh my brain is hurting on that one…..
On another note why didn’t Danny recognise the doctor and Clara if he is Rupert me thinks there is definitely more to him. One thought was maybe Danny is a twin or brother to Rupert which would explain his reaction to Clara’s mention of Rupert on thier first date.
Another thing I’ve been wondering about, I know there is speculation that Clara Has empathic/telepathic abilities, but I’m wondering if Danny also has some kind of empathic ability. Danny has previously stated that he always knows when he’s being lied to, I fact wasn’t that part of the reason thier ‘first’ date was a near disaster.
I am sure some of our more bonkerising members will be able to either shoot holes or expand on these thoughts.
27 September 2014 at 22:26 #32581Need to get this off my chest because it’s bugged me since we first saw Courtney. Is she the same/but younger obviously girl from the Matt doc episode the power of three the one the alien uses to observe if I remember right.
27 September 2014 at 21:21 #32561Oh wow, will make more coherent comments myself when I’ve watched the DW extra program. Certainly a lot to take in, and Danny starts showing his mettle.
Courtney was like a mini me Donna Noble -
