This YouTube video is a suitable one for Remembrance Day. It is June Tabor’s version of Eric Bogle’s song,

also known as Jimmy McBride and The Green Fields of France. I was singing it to myself most of the morning while I was on my way to my regular MRI scan.

Be careful of believing the Telegraph.

Just after Apil fools day, they ran a story where they claimed that the National Trust had banished mentioning Easter in the publicity for its Easter events, and also managed to get Teresa May and the Archbishop of York to make comments on the bogus story. When I checked on the National Trust’s website at the time. it was obvious that the story was fake news!! but they had managed to get the PM’s and the AoY’s comments to be rebroadcast by the BBC and possibly others

I also heard on the BBC, quoting the Telegraph’s Sport’s page that Cricket’s governing body was going to make it compulsary or test matches to be played on grounds that could be covered with roofs, I have not been able to confirm or deny this by searching the internet but I am suspecting that this is another case of Fake News.

On the Wikipedia Julian and Sandy page

It says “The fiftieth Doctor Who Virgin New Adventures novel Happy Endings by Paul Cornell features a Polari-speaking Silurian musical duo from the 30th century called Jacquilian and Sanki.”

It is looking like this site is being spammed by mater and pater’s precious little snowflakes as they complain about an episode that hasn’t even been screened yet,and hopefully they will not watch, although that will probably not stop them from commenting,as in the past comments have been posted before episodes have started.

I also wonder whether The Doctor will have the stronger bond wuth Missy or The Master.

    Some lovely bits:

The english teacher not recognising a quote from Shakespeare.

The little white dot at the finish (for any younger people. this is what the broadcast picture defaulted to at the end of the day’s programmes, after the epilogue.) – it might have been through this dot that the “infection” was broadcast,if it wasn’t through the pixelated bit.

The unstated reference to That Thatcher Woman!!! who apart from her propensity to evil deeds, was also notorious for not sleeping much.

One thing that I have not seen disussed yet.

If zygons take on human form, they will surely be able to mate and reproduce with humans.

What will be the status of their offspring?

    Bonkers Theory:

Could the hybrid offspring of humans and zygons (with the ability of the zygons to take on the form of other life forms evolving into regeneration) be the progenitors of the time lords?

The wine is going down (too) well tonight!

I am having trouble working out the full significance of “Amazing Grace” being played, unless it is a reference to Clara saving him.

Could “no dogs” (re-inforced by the sound of barking) be an indication that some of the Zygons have taken on the form of dogs (as in dogs are a man’s best friend)?

Bonnie/Clara’s assessment of Unit having being ‘neutralised’ (horrible Department of Defense (sic) (euphamism) isn’t necessary the true situation (I suspect that the first wave of Zygons were given employment as members of UNIT) and I await to see the how the consequences resolve!!!

Unless I have mised a comment, I don’t think that anybody has mentioned that whereas old- Davros has an eye in the middle of his forehead, boy-Davros desn’t. I think that this implies that the old-Davros and boy Davros may not be the same person (unless the third eye developes later in life, I am not an expert on Dalek anatomy.).

It wasn’t until a rewatch that I realised that the tune that the Doctor introduced himself with was the Doctor Who theme. Duh!!! I wonder if this version will be used for the title music.

With the parallel between boy-Davros and the boy that Danny saved, Maybe the plan is to rescue the boy and foster him to Clara.

I thought that old-Davros was looking very weary after a lifetime of war, and it has occurred to me that this might be the start of an attempt to end the Time War.

but the race thing, i don’t think that would affect me, if he changed race. perhaps many other fans would be outraged, but as long as the actor is right (as you say)… and british! the doctor should always have an accent, from somewhere in the isles…

I don’t have a lot to add on this one.

At least Victoria’s screaming had a positive effect for her as it startled Kaftan.

As my hearing is a bit lacking in the high-frequency range these days, I had trouble hearing a lot of the Cybermen’s dialogue. I nearly switched the subtitles on. (I later found out that there weren’t any.)

I would like to point out that the tail-waggling of the cybermats is actually a self-righting mechanism. They would have been even more vulnerable without it.

I think that the Cybermen must have sealed themselves in to await a time when human technology had developed to an extent where they could transport the Cybermen to Earth. The “Tomb” and the technology of the Cybermen seems very run down and it looks like a plan of last resort.

With the bumper crops of nettles, thistles and brambles in recent years, I would have thought that naked rambling was not a very practical idea.

I have not come across the naked rambler or his female companion on my travels, but photos of me streaking (I have retired from it now.) in the wilds of Derbyshire may still exist from the mid 1970s, when I used to go walking with the Manchester University Hiking Club. Hurrah!!!!

I managed to get a ticket at a cinema that was convenient for me to get to on that day.

I am attending the AGM of Friends of DalesBus (formerly known as ‘the Yorkshire Dales Public Transport User Group’ that day.

I am the silly idiot who volunteered to put together the programme of guided walks that supports the Sunday DalesBuses, and I needed a venue that I could get to conveniently after the meeting.

It took a while before Vue started taking bookings for their Leeds cinemas. I also booked a “VIP” seat and it seemed from the seating plan that there weren’t many seats unbooked.

    PS

I also do a blog about the Friends of DalesBus rambles, and if anyone fancies seeing some decent landscape photos of the Yorkshire Dales (interspersed by some tedious text) they can be found here.

BTW I know that some of this is probably outside of the scope of the site, so feel free to edit out anything considered inappropriate.

I don’t believe it! I actually got it right about the upstairs cyberman not being real.

    Re: Fraser Hines

He was born in Horsforth, near Leeds, and going by his given name, may be of Scottish descent.

There are quite a lot of people around Leeds and the Yorkshire coalfields who have Scottish links (including my own (extended) family (by marriage). There is even a City of Leeds Pipeband.
When I was in the Scouts, I was taught how to play a side drum by a member of this band.

His Scottish accent doesn’t seem very different from that of some of the Scots that I know in Leeds, although one of them, who has lived in Leeds for some considerable time, occasionally comes out with phrases in broad Yorkshire!

One of my father’s uncles had a very strong, and possibly false (or stage), Scots accent and used to regularly wear a kilt, sporran and skean-dhu, as did his sons.

Anyway, Jamie would have been a Gaelic speaker from Skye, and, when speaking English, may have had an accent nearer to that of the west coast o9f Ireland. If he had been speaking with a modern Glasgow accent, I reckon that it would be worse than the accent that he used in DW. He is not playing a Ralph C Nesbitt clone! πŸ˜€
